My brother and I took to the woods this weekend with our smokeless ML's. He has a Savage MLII .50 and I have a new SMI 45 on a H&R shotgun frame. We spent all day in the woods Saturday from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM by the time we made it out. It was a high near 50F. He was in a tree stand in a large timber and I was on the field edge in a Double Bull. It was a limited draw hunt on public ground with ML only during the 2nd shotgun season. I saw some nice bucks but none came close. He shot his in late afternoon. 60 yard shot and he went about 30 yards and piled up. Nice buck in very pleasant conditions. A 10 that aged at 4.5 years and weighed at 164 lbs. I sat in the tree stand the next day. Temp at 4:00 AM 40 F, a couple hours later 6 F with wind chill at around -10F to -15F. I sat in the tree stand and had this guy come in at 90 yards or so at 9:00 AM. I had to sneak it through between several trees and could only see his front shoulder area. I could see his better side and saw the sticker off the g2 so I thought I would take him and go thaw out. After the shot I was not sure I had hit him as I lost him right after the shot. I went and looked and finally found some blood, then a lot of blood, up to 4 feet high on the trees he was running by. He piled up about 80 to 100 yards away. I was pretty happy with him considering the conditions. He was aged at 5.5 years and 149 lbs dressed. My first deer with the SMI 45.

My advice to people looking is buy what you can find now no matter where it is if it is at a price you are willing to pay. Talk to a local ffl dealer and see how much he gets to do a transfer. Most dealers everywhere are out of stock, the ones that are not jacked the prices up, but deals can still be found. You might have to wait a bit though. I have a dealer that will do transfers for $15. That and shipping is a lot less than tax would be usually. I know of a 308 AR10 in Iowa but he wants $1500, more than I will pay. I went to look at a Remington R25 in 308 that I called a guy on the night before and it sold 30 mins before I got there. They wanted $1320 for that. DPMS LR 308's can be found for around $1000 or under, but most are out of stock now. I got in on a group buy of lowers for under $95 each including shipping and all fees, but it will two months or more before they get here. I paid more than that before the panic began.

I think he will start with the assualt weapons ban first. They are the easiest target because gun owners will not stand together on that issue. It was on his change.gov website about making the AWB permanent (it has been taken down now). They will also seek improvements on this ban such as no transfers, no parts, etc... to make the current owner the last owner of them. The only way someone can claim obama isn't anti gun is to ignore what he did in IL. Read factcheck.org about his stance on guns. Many of the points they make trying to defend his stance are "he did this in IL, but not the US Senate so it is uncertain". He even says on some of his questions that he doesn't have the votes to do some of his legislation. I find it interesting that he didn't say he didn't believe in that legislation, but he couldn't get it passed so it was not vialble. With the current election results that might have changed. Our only hope on the AWB is that repubs and the blue dog dems hold the line but it is unlikely. The supreme court will also be involved per the Heller decision to see what firearms are in "common usage". If he doesn't get it done it will not be because he doesn't want to.

Palin's biggest problem is McCain. He refuses to name the dems that were in charge of the Fannie/Freddy fiasco. Some of whom will be in the cabinet if Obama wins. Sometimes I wonder if he wants to win. Another problem is that some of the issues that Palin could hammer Biden on would also be hammering McCain. McCain is lots better than Obama, but he is far from my first choice. His refusal to do what needs to be done and said is going to cost him the election. Dems have succeeded in making the need for a bailout a republican mess when it was dems that were at the controls a lot of the time and dems that blocked reform. Some of those in charge should be in jail, not high up in the Obama campaign.

The AHSA is an anti gun organization parading as a pro gun org so it is no wonder that they endorse Obama.

They are talking about it being a typical world record. Some that looked at the video think there are one or two common bases for some of the points which would make them nontypical points that would kill the net score. Either way it is a great deer.

I had never heard of Palin, but I think it might have been a good choice. Her lack of Washington experience might not be a bad thing. All they have to do is use Obama's ads on his own lack of experience from early in the primaries where he twisted that into a good thing. Pretty hard to attack your own ads. There are a lot of women that were displeased they way hillary got treated as well so picking a woman might tap into that anger and get him some more votes. When she debates biden he will have to be careful to not look like he is badgering her. Right or wrong, it is harder to beat up on a woman during a debate than a man without looking bad. Remember Hillary and her senate debate several years ago, her opponent lost the election (or any chance he had at at least) because he looked like he was being too harsh with her. The dems might be getting some of their own medicine now. She surely helps him with many conservatives, sportsmen, pro-lifers, and gun-owners. I personally think it is OBama that is in more trouble. With the everything that has happened the last couple years and his huge momentum earlier this year to not even have a double digit lead after his convention should be troubling to him. As for being worried about Hilary in 4 years I would like to see Palin vs Hillary. Assuming she delivers like she did on her VP speech I think she would be a nightmare for Hillary. Contrast Hillary's style with what Palin has shown and I think she makes Hillary look really bad. I think the real risk with her is she now has to prove she can perform on the big stage vs. more localized elections.

This is a common issue with moultrie cams. They often have a fix available for download. I had to do this with my I40's. Check your firmware versions before doing it though. www.chasingame.com has lots of info on this or at moultries site at : http://www.moultriefeeders.com/softwareupdates/DGS-M60_Camera_Software_Update.html

I transfer mine to my computer and store them on it. I also delete many of them if I don't have a need for them. It will also work to store them on CD or DVD. Just a matter of what you want to do.

While I don't have a GL2 oftentimes usb is for still pics and you will need firewire for the video. Firewire is also called IEEE 1394. You will need the cord and a firewire port on your pc.

If you want to order online you might check out ar15sales.com. I bought an RRA entry tac from a local dealer and could have saved upwards of $200 including shipping and transfer fee. It all depends how cheap of a transfer fee you can find, I have one that will do it for $15.

Hate to tell you that I didn't need to look up anything that I wrote. It is all common knowledge for those paying attention. You claimed to not know what an assault weapon was defined as and I told you. I also got your point that you don't care. You are not alone there, unfortunately, it is pretty common among hunters and shooters. I hope for my sake you are never proven wrong. And for the record, I prefer to have some basis in fact when speaking rather than "shooting from the hip." Imagine getting put down for looking up facts to make sure I had things right (if I had needed to look things up). Like I said, amazing.

This is the most disheartening comment I've read in a while. You have no idea what they classify as assault weapons, but go ahead and do it anyway? Amazing. Full auto machine guns have been banned/restricted for decades, the assault weapons they are talking about are semiautomatic rifles and is some cases shotguns. The last brady bill banned semi auto rifles with a certain combination of detachable magazines, bayonet lug, collapsible stock, pistol grip, and more than 10 round mags, if I recall correctly. Other versions have been introduced (never passed) that would have outlawed most rifles and shotguns that were not double barrels or single shots. None of the people that look like they have a chance to be pres will be good for gun owners. McCain has made a career by going to the liberal side of things, I don't see why it will change when he is president. Oddly enough, it might be the dems that were elected a couple years ago that might hold the line on gun control. Many were endorsed by the NRA and are southern pro gun dems. Hopefully, they remember that when the brady bill or worse is reintroduced next year.

I've had two I40's for a few months without any problems. Battery life is outstanding, one cam has well over 1400 pics on it and there is over 60% left on the original set of batteries. My lowest temp recorded was -1 F. I don't know anything about the older models, but while the I40 isn't perfect, I have been pleased.

The democratic caucus is where you can change votes or leave if your person doesn't have 15%. The republicans write on a piece of paper and turn them in and don't change their votes.

Microsoft paint will resize, it is called stretch and skew with paint. A quick google search found http://www.bigwebpages.com/big/resize.html that might work for you as well.

I've killed a doe and button buck this season with the magnus stingers with the bleeder blades. The doe was hit high in shoulders with little blood trail, but she only made it 50 or 60 yards and fell in sight. The button buck had a decent trail hit back behind the ribs and exited the opposite front shoulder. He fell within 50 yards. These were my first bow deer so I don't have much to compare to, but both dropped in sight.

I checked my second Moultrie I40 after being up about one month and it had filled the card with over 900 pictures (3 per event). These are the biggest bucks I've captured this year.

We've been hitting them pretty good in western Iowa. I've been seeing lots of birds after the corn was harvested. I've been in South Dakota 7 days and my group managed 50 roosters hunting 6 of 7 days on public ground. Going out today and all weekend to get some more. Picture is of our 5 person limit my first trip up to SD this year.

I managed to arrow a doe today in a special antler-less only deer reduction zone. This also happens to be my first bow kill ever. Sorry about the poor picture but I was in a hurry with turkey day rapidly approaching. Hopefully, a buck will be coming soon as well.

I have not been out hunting yet, but my camera has picked up some good bucks in one of my hunting spots. I'll be looking for this one soon.

I've had my new moultrie I40 digital cam up for about a month and decided to check it today. So far I am pretty happy with it. Here are some of my better pics. Some of the grainy ones are cropped as they were pretty far away.
