  1. The water moccasin thread stirred my memory on snake pics and I dug out a couple I took in April. The frog was still alive when I first saw them. I wasn't sure the snake was going to get the job done, but the frog was pretty much gone soon after I took the pics. [image][/image] [image][/image]
  2. Before 5/17/05 my biggest walleye was about 1.5 lbs. On Wednesday I went to a northeast South Dakota lake on my way through South Dakota for about an hour and a half from shore and beat my old record by more than 5.5 lbs. As luck would have it I was by myself and was the only one there so I have pictures of the fish without me in them. This is in fact the biggest walleye I have ever seen caught although I've seen some pics from friends of bigger. I thought about mounting it, but decided to release her after a few pics. My 7 lb 3 oz 'eye.
  3. Re: Having trouble uploading photos .exe is a program extension, not a picture file. You need to find the .jpg files as those are the pictures (assuming they are saved as JPEG's).
  4. Re: More Toms on the Move (video) There are light colored deer in some of the shots and there was a white bag blowing across the field once as well. The ground we were on was basically a refuge that only a few handicapped hunters are allowed to turkey hunt in so there is not much hunting pressure.
  5. Here are a couple other video clips from my brothers turkey hunt. These are the ones that didn't come in. Strutters Toms in the field This is a picture of a tom I took this morning on the way to work.
  6. Re: Brothers 2006 Tom I used my older Sony DCR-TRV525 Digital8 video camera.
  7. The video from my brothers 2006 turkey hunt. He ended up with a 22lb tom with 10.5" beard and 1" spurs. This was a special disabled only hunt. I will post some video of some of the other toms we saw when I get a chance. 2006 Turkey Kill (5300 kb)
  8. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Tagged a tom that was just under 23 lbs. on 4/15/06. It was more luck than skill just happened on to him after several toms got away from us. I was laying on a pasture hilltop after dropping in my tracks and could only see the red head coming over the hill. A good end to a long day. Good luck Team!
  9. Re: 2006 RT Forum\'s Turkey Contest Photo Thread Tagged a tom that was just under 23 lbs. on 4/15/06 for the Limbhangers.
  10. Re: South Dakota Snow Goose Hunt I think one had a band, didn't hear about any neck collars. The 1000 rounds was an estimate, but from the sounds of it they were not shooting the best in the morning. I know my brother is not the best shot in the world.
  11. My brother and a bunch of his college friends went snow goose hunting in South Dakota on Saturday and managed to get into a few My brother got there late in the morning and they had already killed about 100. They ended up with 185 for the day. My brother's dog (the Small Munsterlander in the pictures) brought back 27 snows from as much as a half mile away (glided before coming down). Not bad for a dog that had never retrieved a goose before. The field was very muddy, up to shin deep. There was about 20 of them over the course of the day and they shot about 1000 rounds and had around 900 bag dekes out. There were only 6 hunters left at the end of the day and it took them 5 hours to carry the blinds, dekes, and geese to the road in the deep mud. They boned out the meat and are going to grind it into brats. I would have loved to have been there for the hunt, but have to say from the sounds of it, I would have not enjoyed the clean-up.
  12. Re: Which Camcorder? If you want to edit the video on the PC then I would stick with miniDV. The DVD and hard drive cams don't save the footage as raw video files (.avi) which are the best for editing. The dvd cams should output either to a VCR for putting the footage on a tape or to the computer. I like Sony cams myself but honestly I have not looked too close at the newer models lately. For $800 you should be able to find a nicer 3 chip minidv cam.
  13. Re: Videoing a hunt? I've had pretty good luck with turkey hunts, but deer hunts have not been so good. I think it really enhances the hunt if you can get the kill on video, it is nice to be able to watch it again and show friends and family instead of just telling the story.
  14. Re: New Camera???? Photographers Help needed The camera has a burst mode, I think it is 2.5 FPS without flash. I know you can take a lot pics in a hurry. From what I read it helps to have a high speed SD card for optimal burst performance. I got a Ridata 1 GB 66X card when I bought the camera. It has a flash, but it is manual only, it will not pop-up automatically which I have been used to in the past. I think the flash pics are good, it would depend on what you are used to I suppose. I mostly got it for the 12X (432mm) zoom and I think that works great. It has two IS modes, both work, but mode 2 is a bit better for me. Taking pics at 12X without a tripod is usually not a problem. The auto focus is usually very good and responsive. I tried a Kodak 740Z without the IS and it took about 10 pics before I decided that you need IS to have any chance at using the full zoom. DPreview.com has a good review that covers just about everything.
  15. Re: New Camera???? Photographers Help needed I recently got a Panasonic FZ-5. 12X optical zoom with image stabilization. I love it and can take handheld pics at 12X without any trouble. I got mine online for $350.
  16. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Congrats on the new arrival! Don't have any myself but from the ones I've been around you might try to get him on a mouth call first. All that air used for bawling and screaming could be put to good use!
  17. Re: camcorders-dv or dvd? If you want to edit video on your PC after you shoot it I would get a minidv camera. The dvd cameras save video as an MPEG file, not as raw (avi) footage. MPEG video can be edited but not as easily or as well as avi.
  18. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Present and accounted for, but I will not be turkey hunting until late April. With the nice weather lately it is going to be a long wait
  19. Re: Quail Hunting We only managed two quail here this year, but were were pheasant hunting and just managed to run into some. We only saw two coveys this year and both were within two miles and 30 minutes of each other. Granted I don't hunt many fencelines or woody ditches or I am sure we could have found some more. Nice picture by the way!
  20. Re: South Dakota Perch Ice Fishing Trip I've hit Waubay, Enemy Swim, and a couple others during the past couple summers. Never really had that much luck, some smaller walleyes mostly. My brother is in college at brookings and we usually go where he has heard they are biting. Either he or his friends usually have somewhere they are hitting.
  21. Re: video Here are a few that I have gotten over the past couple of years. brothers first turkey brothers 2005 deer Some of my others can be viewed here: Hunting footage
  22. Re: South Dakota Perch Ice Fishing Trip Our ice here in Iowa was gone when I went up to SD, but it is back a bit now. Now sure how safe most of it is. I fished all day for all 4 days, but it was worth it. I can't get over how big and stout the fish are in SD, it was the same last year with our crappies and pike. We were fishing Whitewood Lake just south of the town of Lake Preston.
  23. Unlike last year when my brother and I were catching huge pike through the ice up in SD we went for perch this year. My brothers friends had been catching 11"-12"+ perch so I decided to head up and give it a try. We caught these over 4 days of fishing. The first day a cold front came through and the bite was slow, only managed these two. The second day my brother and I upped the ante catching 13 and missing several more. Most were in the 11" to 13" range with one going 13.5" and just over a pound. Day three we got 13 for the second day in a row, again some nice sized ones. Day 4: I went by myself because my brother had class. Some of the fish were a bit smaller this time, but I upped the ante to 15. Hopefully, I will go back in the next couple weeks and see it they are still biting.
  24. Re: Outdoor Robin Hood.... Posted for JKAPP01, the long awaited picture
  25. Re: Need help with hunting footage I'll PM you my address and I'll try and do it for you if you want to send me the tape. Also I want it understood that I'm not responsible for the tape in the unlikely event that it gets eaten or some other act of God.
