  1. Re: New Black Rifle Owner I got it for $900 plus tax at a local shop. I could have saved some money buying online, but many of the Rock Rivers are backordered for several months and this one was there so I decided to help the local economy and buy it.
  2. Re: Stoeger model 2000 I too heard that it needed broke in, I guess I wasn't worried about it. It certainly isn't the only gun I heard needed a break in period. I got mine right before hunting season started so I didn't shoot a lot of light loads I just went right to the field loads. I think someones happiness with this gun depends on their expectations. I was just looking for an auto that I could afford to try vs. my Browning BPS. They are not a Benelli or Beretta, you can tell they are built cheaper, but mine functions well so I am not worried about it. To be honest I have seen more malfunctions with my brothers M1 Super 90 and a friends Super black hawk than with my M2000. I am not really trying to talk anyone into buying one, it makes me no difference, I am just relating my personal good experience with it. I will say that I have not touched my BPS for any type of upland or waterfowl hunting since I got the M2000. For some reason I shoot this gun really well (so did both of my brothers who shot it) and I have made some of my best shots on pheasant and ducks with it. That is good enough for me.
  3. With all the Zumbo stuff and the new AWB that people are talking about I decided to quit putting off getting a black rifle and take the plunge. I've been looking for a while and finally decided on a Rock River Arms Entry Tactical that a local shop had in. I am not going to shoot it until I see what happens with the AWB (more value for unfired). If it doesn't pass then I will run some rounds through it. I am also getting a stripped lower and am going to start building an AR that I will shoot as soon as I get it done. I thought duck hunting was bad when it came to spending money, but all those cool AR toys are expensive!
  4. Re: Stoeger model 2000 I've heard of some that have trouble with the bolt handle coming out. It has to snap in, I think some are not putting it in all the way and they are falling out.
  5. Re: Stoeger model 2000 I've used an M2000 for the last couple years and have been happy with it. It is not built like a benelli or remington, but I feel it is a good gun for the price. Just a matter of what you want. I've probably shot around 1500 rounds through it, from light target to 3" goose load and have not any troubles.
  6. Re: FFL Transfer Fee Here in Iowa you can get a permit to buy from the Sheriff. I got mine the other day and it was $5. They run the background check and it is good for a year. Then the FFL dealer can just use that instead of calling in.
  7. Re: Republicans are just as stupid as democrats [ QUOTE ] I sure wish Rick Santorum would run!!! [/ QUOTE ] I would have a hard time voting for someone who wanted PAWS and takes money from some animal rights groups. http://www.humaneusa.org/Blank/2005SenSantorum.htm Hopefully there will be some better choices than him.
  8. Re: Virtual Memory Question. I would see how much free space is on your hard drive before I got too carried away deleting stuff. If it is not close to full that is probably not the problem. Also check how much ram you have installed. Also make sure your virus and spyware software is up to date and scan your PC. All those funny emails could have viruses or trojans that are causing you problems as well. It is pretty hard for me to think that your HDD is out of space after one year unless you use if for video editing.

    Mojo

Re: Mojo I've used a baby mojo hen for a couple years. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. In low light they seem to work better and the teal really seem to love them. Some guys shut them off after first light. I don't have one with a remote, but wish I did, it would be really handy to be able to shut it off when they come in close.
  10. Re: Vista Anyone? I think I'll wait a few months for the bugs to get worked out. It always seems that there are glitches in new software, especially an OS.

  12. Re: Digital cams and cold weather The cold will kill the batteries sometimes but so far has not hurt any digitals that I have had out.
  13. Re: Posting pictures???? In the realtree picture post there is a spot below your pic that says "ubb code" with something like this in it: http://www.realtree.com/img/2/medium/T_G_bucks.jpg That is the url for the picture that you need. Copy and paste and it should work.
  14. Re: Team 27 Well deer season is over and I didn't manage anything. Passed on several does as other family members filled the freezer. I was chasing a nice 140" 8 point but he will still be there for next year as I didn't get him this year. Saw lots of good bucks running around that are still out there so it bodes well for next year.
  15. Re: Hunting Dog Question The North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association has an entry level test called the Natural Abilility test that is for puppies under 16 months old. The top score is 112 points and they are given prizes with a Prize 1 (I) being the best and Prize 3 (III)the lowest given. For example a maximum score would be 112 points, Prize 1, a midrange score might be 96 points, Prize II. A Prize 2 (II) is a good score but I have no idea what the 7.65% means. Perhaps a different organization has a similar test with where that means something. If you have more info or a website for the litter I might be able to tell you more.
  16. Re: Arkansas bound Dec. 13th!! If things go as planned my brothers and I are heading to Stuttgart in early January. Friend of a friend is supposed to have some access to good private ground. Hopefully, the ducks are there when we are!
  17. Re: 27 - Pope and Young Posse Great job! My deer season starts in 6 days so hopefully more to come.
  18. Re: What camera should I get? You can check reviews on most digital cameras at http://www.dpreview.com as they have most models available today on there. I had a Panasonic FZ5 and now have a Panansonic FZ7 (had for 1 week) and have been pleased with both. I bought the FZ7 from butterfly photo for $275 including 2 day shipping. If you are going to to any wildlife photography get something with a 12X zoom and image stablilization. Without IS the super-zoom cameras are almost worthless without a tripod. The Panasonic super-zooms are usually at the top of their class along with Canon. A digital SLR will take better pics, but they cost a lot more and a 12X (420mm) lens would be very large and spendy for a fast one.
  19. I saw this guy a few days ago at about 400 yards. After watching him for a while he followed a doe into a small treeline in front of me and I got out of the truck walked up the path and he came out right in front of me. This is the biggest buck I've captured on the FZ5. As a side note I dropped and broke my FZ5 on Saturday so this is also the last buck pics I will get with it. The FZ7 that is replacing it should be here this week.
  20. Re: 2006 bucks part II The deer range from 100 yards to 30 yards. My camera has a 12X zoom so it brings them in pretty good as long as the light is good. The really clear close ones are 30 to 50 yards.
  21. Re: biggest bucks of 2006 part 1 Yes, they are all the same, taken one right after another.
  22. Here is a nice 10 point that I saw earlier this week. He was hot on the trail of a doe. Here is a buck that looks like it has a double main beam starting. The first is a picture of a picture that someone else took that shows his overall appearance a little better. He never came out of the timber for a better shot.
  23. I've been getting some decent bucks with my Panasonic FZ5 and thought I would post some. The first few are a nice buck that I caught near a licking branch. I thought it was a neat set of pictures. A couple are slightly fuzzy due to low light and lack of a rest. More to come when I get them uploaded.
