  1. Re: Waterfowling Gear? I have that decoy retriever and the end is somewhat fragile, it has to be to be light and extend that far. I learned quickly that if it is all the way extended that you pull the decoys in, don't lift them. I bent it a bit on the first couple of dekes that I tried to lift, never had a problem after switching to pulling them in. It has 4 or 5 sections that extend out so you don't have to extend the most fragile sections unless the dekes are still beyond your reach. I have used it many times from a boat and from shore. Well worth the $30 or so in my opinion.
  2. Re: Team 27 You can email me them if you want at [email protected] . If you can resize them so they are not too big. I am on dialup.
  3. Re: Stoeger M2000 Field Results They say you must run about 150 heavier loads through it to break it in. Also make sure that you have cleaned all the packing grease off the action, slides, and spring. The packing grease can get dirt in it and jam it. I've had one for two years (duck and pheasant) and I think it is great. It only jammed twice with the first box of rounds I put through it (skeet load) and have not had another prolem since. The chokes fit really tight that first time, but after the first time they worked fine. Break it in and give it a chance, you might be suprised.
  4. Re: mini dvd If you want to edit video on your PC then I would suggest the minidv. Mini dvd's might be OK for showing movies on TV, but it is not the best for editing.
  5. Re: Digital Camera Not sure it is the best but I use a Panasonic FZ5. The 12x zoom and image stabilization work very well and it snaps pics off quickly. You might check www.dpreview.com for more info.
  6. Re: Video camera position Upwind if possible. The smoke from a muzzleloader or even a shotgun will drift in front of the lens. With a modern firearm it isn't much but it can be noticeable in some situations.
  7. Re: Team 27 [ QUOTE ] is ruttinbuc, smallmunster and hunter 101 around? havent heard from you all [/ QUOTE ] I've been busy duck hunting and actually forgot to check the teams. I am not deer hunting until december this year so it will be a while before I get any chances. Chris
  8. Re: Most bands in a day? [ QUOTE ] How many wood ducks are you guys allowed out there? We get two here. [/ QUOTE ] We get two as well, but as I stated above, it was three of us that shot the four woodies. I got one, my brother two, and my friend one. Our early season just ended tonight and it was very good for us. Since Saturday we (from 1 to 6 people per day) got 5 woodies, 2 mallards, 2 shovelers, 19 blue-wings, and 10 green-wing teal. Our best early season ever.
  9. How many bands have you gotten in one day? This morning three of us were spread out along a marsh shoreline and within the first 45 minutes we had 4 wood ducks with bands. As you might figure they were all young of the year. They must have banded a bunch on the marsh this year. Also got 4 bluewings and 4 greenwings.
  10. Re: PHOTO Contest Winners! Thanks for another excellent contest! It is clear that there are some talented people out there and I feel lucky to have placed.

  12. A few pics I took today behind the house. This is by far the closest I have gotten to one.
  13. Re: maybe a dumb question but need some help Most TIFF formats use a lossless compression and JPEG uses a lossy compression. This means that you lose some picture information (quality) with JPEG and not with TIFF. Every time you save a JPEG file some quality is lost, this doesn't happen with TIFF images. A TIFF image is closer to what the camera actually "sees" and is good if you are going to do a lot of editing. The flip side is that TIFF images are much larger than the JPEG images. On my 5 MP camera with a 1 gig card, (19 pics already on the camera) I can get 388 high quality JPEG pics or 60 TIFF pics. I myself can't tell enough of a difference between them to bother with the large TIFF filesizes most of the time. Perhaps if you were printing larger pictures or something like that, but TIFF images are probably not worth it for posting on the net.
  14. Re: Video editing-can someone please help I don't know what computer setup you have, but first I would make sure that you don't have a firewire port, the ports might only be on the back of the tower and not on the front like many PC's have today. You can also look at the device manager to make sure there are not any IEEE 1394 host controllers listed. Assuming there are none, I would go and buy a PCI firewire card (assuming you have a free PCI slot), they are not that expensive and most people shouldn't have too much trouble installing it. I would do this before getting a graphics card. Depending on what your onboard graphics are, you might get better performance than you think. Also before you get a graphics card you have to know if you have an AGP slot or the newer PCI express slots.
  15. Re: Video editing-can someone please help Is the camera USB 2.0 or 1.1? I can't find anywhere on the net where it says that camera is USB 2.0. From what I have found it is USB 1.1 which is the old standard and not capable of transferring digital video at the highest quality. I think you are using the USB port that is designed to make your camera a web cam, which is not nearly the quality of DVD video. If I am right (can't say for sure since I don't have the box or manuals) you will need to use the firewire (also called i.Link or IEEE 1394) port to transfer the video to your PC. Your computer will need to have a firewire port and you will need the proper firewire cable.
  16. Re: kids read an take rhis to heart [ QUOTE ] Good points to ponder but I am sure this is an urban legend. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure of the names or if this exact situation is true, but I've seen this exact thing on a couple news shows over the past year or so. The same exact thing, the 13 year old girls on the show were pretty suprised when their friend was a 50 year old cop and knew everything about them. The parents weren't real happy either.
  17. Re: Video editing-can someone please help Are you using the Picture Package Program for your editing? Can you change the bitrate settings for the dvd in your program? If the picture is good on the PC and poor on the DVD the first thing I would check is the bit rate settings. From what I saw on the net, the picture package progam was for making video cd's, these don't usually have the quality of a true DVD so more can fit on the CD. You might also try to put the footage on the PC. Edit it, then instead of outputing it to the DVD, output it back to the camera via the firewire port (make sure you don't record over the original footage). Then use your camera to the dvd recorder and see if you still get the better results that you got before. You shouldn't have to do this, but if it works it might be a temporary solution. I don't think you should need a TV tuner card, I don't have one. I have an old AGP graphics card. It might slow things down a bit, but has not affected the quality. A new lower end graphics card or on-board graphics chip on a new machine would probably be fater than my older one and I don't have any problems. I would look at your program first.
  18. Re: anyone familiar with sony\'s As near as I can tell Picture Package will not burn DVD's, only cd's. You need a DVD authoring program and/or encoding program. The raw digital footage (avi) must be encoded to MPEG2 format which is what DVD's are. I use Pinnacle Studio that both authors and encodes, but there are many out there.
  19. Re: WARNING: Ebay bidders I helped a friend buy a spotting scope a couple years ago that turned out to be a fraud. Luckily, the postal inspectors and local PD where the money went to shut him down and we got our money back. This guy had hacked an account and had a bunch of stuff for sale. My sister also had her account hacked a few months ago (she responded to one of those fake emails). She went on her "my ebay" page and found that there were a bunch of expensive bikes being sold under her name. She got them shut down before they ended, but that could have been bad. I've started looking at a sellers other items and if there is a lot of the same thing ending at the same time for a low price it is usually a scam. They try to get as many auctions finished as possible before they get shut down. It is also a dead give away if this is a sellers only recent activity and they suddenly have a bunch of items. I also always pay with paypal or a credit card, I don't even look twice if they want a check or money order.
  20. Re: Any Lab Pups It will cost around $210 plus crate to ship assuming the breeder doesn't charge extra to drive to the airport. Once it gets above 85 F Continental Airlines will be your only choice. I have shipped a couple dozen pups over the years all over the US. We send a video for those that can't come here. I've had three shipped in from Germany as well. It is not without risk, but it can be done safely.
  21. Re: Dinner Time (snake vs. frog) I think it is a pretty big red-sided garter snake.
  22. Re: Let\'s see your biggest buck. There are some great bucks posted here! Too bad I have dialup, it takes forever to see them all. This is my biggest taken last fall. A really good buck for my area.
