  1. I guess I was a little spoiled growing up. Right before I turned 16 (over 4 years ago) my parents bought me an 03 Silverado Z71. I loved that old truck and drove it all through high school. But I was never able to really call it "mine." Everyone in those days fell into one of two groups, some people would tell me I have a nice truck, other people would give me crap about driving my daddy's truck because he bought it for me. Either way, after I got out of high school and joined the Marines, I gave that truck back to my parents and started saving to buy my own. I had every intention of just making a nice down payment on something pretty new, but my chain of command here knows how much (little) I get paid, and looked down at the idea of me taking out a big loan. That along with the fact that I have very little credit, and couldn't get a decent rate, convinced me to just find one I could pay cash for. I have always loved the 88-98 bodystyle Silverados and finally found one for myself. Today I made a couple hour roadtrip to pick it up. It's a 98 Ext. Cab Z71. Of course I got it was the 5.7 Liter Vortec, and the interior is about as loaded as you can get for that model year. Even has a cb radio already, which I have no use for but it's pretty cool ether way! Anyways, I just wanted to brag a little bit. Here's a couple pictures from the dealer. I'm gonna clean up the look as soon as I get some time. Those old man running boards are coming off, along with the peeling Z71 stickers. Then the chrome fender flares, and the rest of the body molding will probably be taken off soon too. Not sure what I'll do with the exhaust, the tailpipes look like crap IMO so i'll probably just turn it down behind the muffler. Can't wait to start playing with it either way. Feels good to be the owner all by myself!
  2. He reminds me of myself at that age everytime I see one of his posts.
  3. I'm assuming your stand can be taken down into mulitple pieces. We have strapped them down on a deer sled, then tied that to the back of an ATV to get where they needed to go. Honestly, a big deer sled is probably the most useful thing I've ever had when it comes to hauling gear. I use it often for waterfowl hunting as well.
  4. I also carry a G23 when I'm back home. I have a Crossbreed Supertuck holster for it. I don't get to carry it much though, I live on a Marine Corps base and they don't like guns here.:helpsmilie:
  5. I always thought I was a real manly man, but I do like lemon in my water. Didn't realize that makes me a sissy:oops:! I better change my ways asap before people start judgin.:bang:
  6. I found out last week that I'm headin to Cherry Point, NC in March. Gonna be stationed on the Marine Corps Airwing there. Anything fun in that area? From what I could tell from google maps, its surrounded by a National Forest. Should be some decent huntin!
  7. all that really matters is that Miami beats Notre Dame on New Years Eve.
  8. I see those a lot more these days. They seem to be a new trend catching on. Of course, I live in southern California; not exactly a big manly man type area around here if you catch my drift. But, if I dressed for it regularly, I'd wear one. They aren't that bad lookin.
  9. Those coolers are full of beer now. They'll just replace it with deer for the trip home!
  10. I got 12-20. I've been too deprived of tv and commercials to remember all those. lol. Still got the same license plate as you though.
  11. Fries from a fast food joint, I usually just eat plain with nothing but the salt that comes on them. Or sometimes I'll order them without salt, that way they have to make me a fresh batch:gunsmilie: Other than that, I use ketchup or occasionally bbq sauce if I'm eating fries we cook at home, or at a dine-in restaurant. The best fries though, are Bacon & Chedder Cheese Fries.
  12. I've heard of people doing it for long-term storage without having trouble. Of course, they would drain all the fluids first. Not sure what kind of effect it might have on them if they are still full of gas/oil. Might make it rough to start without having any oil in the cylinders.
  13. Winter has come and left for me. It was in the 60's here today. It felt awesome. 2 weeks from now, I'm gonna be back home in Indiana where it's been well below freezing a lot lately.
  14. Why not just leave 'em up all year long? Flip the breaker back on after Thanksgiving, maybe replace a bulb or two and you're good to go! I used to enjoy putting them up, for the first year or two. Then it became expected of me, and that just ruins it everytime. They won't let me put lights all over the barracks this year though, so I don't have to worry about it. lol
  15. If it's that cold, my plan B would probably involve a Fallin Skies dvd, and maybe a bucket of chicken wings! lol.
  16. You doin anything to keep the water moving? A jerk cord or two can go a long way when it comes to keeping water open. And are you just breaking up the ice, or actually moving it? I have always walked a big circle, then slid that large sheet of ice underneath the rest of the ice on the pond. Seems to work better than just having busted up ice laying around that will re-freeze. Hopefully your efforts at least brought home a few birds!
  17. 7 years without holidays off? That makes me feel a lot better about being away for my 2nd Thanksgiving in a row. Enjoy your day tomorrow!
  18. Wheres the fun in that? The more traction you have, the less ability you have to whip the rearend around those corners!
  19. I really can't believe the size of the deer I've seen killed from Indiana this year. I'm pretty sure i haven't seen a picture of anything smaller than an 8 pointer. Most have been big 8's, 10's and even a couple 12 point bucks. Something must be working.
  20. Just think, you were an old man 9 years ago when I joined, how do you feel these days? lol
  21. Funny you should mention that. I remember the "guided hunt" too. And how bout this monster I killed! For some reason, I never deleted this e-mail when you sent it to me. lol
  22. Why on earth would they make each size have the same length inseam? Showing no love to us tall guys. I'm not even that tall but a 30 inch inseam will still fall a few inches short.

    Updates

You killed Canada? twice? thats impressive! I don't get to hunt until Dec 19th this year. Hopefully I'll have 2 weeks worth of success stories after that though.
  24. I was thinking about making a post like this today also. I used to play the old Deer Hunter games on pc all the time, and often play with other members of the forums here. Those days are long gone though, I don't even know what hunting games are out there anymore.
  25. No plans here. This will be my 2nd Thanksgiving in a row away from home. Last year I was on the East Coast, this year on the West. Probably spend the day about like most of my days off. Sleep in a little bit, eat the same ol fruit and cottage cheese for breakfast at the chow hall, play a little Madden football, go to the gym, and spend the rest of my time layin around the room. I might splurge this year and order a pizza or something for my Thanksgiving dinner.
