Was talking to a vender of mine the other day, who is a 'hunter' and we got onto the subject of crossbows now being legal for any Oklahoma archer. I say that I'm "not for the idea" and he proceeds to tell me that he got one. He said you could "shoot farther" and I said "yeah, out to 40 or 50 yards maybe." His response--"Pfff. You can shoot accurately at least to 80 with mine." I tried to explain the loss of KE and the amount of time it takes an arrow to reach a deer at that distance and what could happen in that amount of time. Anyway, not sure I got through, but it just reminded me of all the other uneducated "bubba hunters" that are going to be running around. I just have to remind myself that there are compound shooters that believe the same thing.....oh well, what can I do?

My buddy and I were shooting last week (he has a switchback) and we switched bows for a shot....I remember when the SB was THE bow to have, but it doesn't hold a candle to my Elite. I couldn't believe the vibration differences!! The grips alone would be reason enough for me to switch! The GT500 has plenty of speed, plus a little more A-to-A. Either way, I don't think you'll regret switching to Elite....I don't regret the switch at all!!

I shoot the XLR....I love their bows! Wish I had gotten the GT500 though! I USED to shoot mathews.....:ninja:

We're headed to Alaska towards the end of the month. Been needing some down time and I've always wanted to go to Alaska...we decided you can put things off for the rest of your life, so we just bought the tickets. I only wish I was hunting while I'm there....maybe next time. So, we're flying in to Anchorage and staying there. Are there any "must do" items on our first trip out? Trying to get by without renting a car on this trip, but we'll see. Have train tickets booked as well. I'd like to try my hand at the fishing that I've always heard is so phenomenal, but don't know where to start or if anything is running that time of year. We'll probably take a day to see Anchorage and maybe the zoo and head out to see if we can spot some whales. Anything else??? It's such a big state with so much to do, and this is our first time out. ~Ryan

I remembered that Jeramie. A little far for me right now, as I typically like to hunt close to home to become intimate with the property I'm hunting, although I'm thinking of a new plan of attack. Not sure if I want to try it or not....that would be scouting out and preparing all stand locations in major funnels. Of the deer I've killed in the past 4-5 years, all have been in a "perfect" funnel. Problem is, I tend to overhunt them (so I think...), ultimately reducing my chances at a good buck. If I hop around, putting longer than normal hours on stand (especially during the rut) that will keep each stand fresh, and I can do most of my scouting online and not jacking with stand adjustments. Fine tuning my hunting style I guess... -

Nothing yet again for me....I think its rigged...how the crap does jeramie keep getting drawn?!?!:1eye: -
They are OK videos, but as far as I'm concerned, nothing compares with Heartland Bowhunter. Not just a ton of killing action, but put together very well...

Nose looks a little too pink, but looks pretty good other than that! Congrats!

Leyland cypress, arborvitae (be careful of the variety, some can get ginormous), foster holly, oakleaf holly, nellie r. stevens holly. Spruce should work up in your area. Deodor cedars are really cool looking. And junipers will always work...they're a weed around here. The hollies and leyland cypress will work in shade or sun, the others need full sun. What I normally do for screening purposes is NOT a straight line of trees. I will generally mix 2 species of trees (sometimes 3) and place them naturally, so it doesn't look so stupid. JMO

You can buy a good used ztr commercial mower for around $2k if you look hard enough. That's what I would do. They last a long time if you do your regular maintenance. Ztr is the way to go though.

Some love them, some hate them. I've never really had them bring in a bird that I can think of. Thinking about leaving them behind this year....what's your personal take on decoys?
-
Would you sell just one?
-
Yeah...didn't you shoot an air conditioner once or something?? lol

Do landscaping. You can use your masonry skills in the landscape industry. You have no idea how many landscape companies have to sub out their masonry work. If you can keep it "in house" your company obviously makes more profit. Use that as leverage for your new boss. Once you learn the ropes of the trade, branch out on your own. There is money to be made, if you can get your business off the ground. Main point is incorporate the two together.

Did you use a video to help you out? What (if any) other training materials did you use? Looks good! Not perfect, but I have seen a ton of mounts by "professional" taxidermists that are about the same quality. I'm looking to start doing my own stuff more and more. Just can't seem to find many taxidermists I'm satisfied with, plus anymore doesn't seem like you can always count on getting your animal back.....

Oklahoma Bill Reducing Antlered Harvest to 1
huntinsonovagun replied to 3whunt's topic in Deer Hunting
Really??? A free for all?? I know most, if not all, guides know how many bucks and does to take off their property. Some leases even set their own regulations within those of state requirements. Kyle, I aint mad at you at all. The thing is there is no "vote"....except by our beaurocrats. Anyway, I could debate every single reply you had, and I admit I had some poorly worded statements, but that would be useless at this point. -

As far as I know, Iowa doesn't have a one buck limit...why do they have so many big ones?? Because they are educated on what makes a big buck.....AGE....not putting more and more restrictions on hunters. Kyle- If I'm going to see results in three years, why haven't I seen any results since the past reduction? I feel that a person should have the right to manage the property he/she hunts according to they best see fit. Thing is, if people don't see results from this legislation I doubt we can EVER get it changed back to a two buck limit. I think two bucks is a good compromise for those who want a one buck limit and those who want a three buck limit. No...it's not the same as seeing him on Sept. 30 (not 31 days in sept)....difference being I am DEER HUNTING on October 1st and should be allowed to take any deer I choose, whereas I'm not hunting on Sept. 31. Kyle- If you're all for a one buck limit, would you have shot another buck if given the chance this past year? (assuming he meets your qualifications) My guess is yes. Sure there will always be small bucks killed, but don't put restrictions on everybody else. If someone wants GIANT bucks, move somewhere else....lets keep our Oklahoma deer hunting tradition pure and not influenced by the big buck hype. I do love big bucks and they keep me in the woods and I won't shoot a 1.5 yr old buck, and do consider myself a trophy hunter. I understand you've got to have restrictions, but lets try to keep them to a minimum...... -

How many people actually fill both tags though?? I don't. In the rare event that I did get a good buck on the ground, I would not want to keep hunting for fear of seeing another good buck and not being able to kill it. This is also just going to encourage out of state hunters when we do get a reputation for good bucks, which I can't even find land to hunt anyway! I will admit, I was for reducing 3 bucks to 2, but I haven't seen any results from that...what makes you think a 1 buck limit is going to change that? The rifle hunters only get a 1 buck limit and they shoot more one year old deer than any group of hunters...I don't think it will do much for getting us bigger bucks. I think educating the public is the only way to get bigger bucks, not limiting what we can and can't shoot to that extent. Also, on the earn a buck thing- What if the biggest, gnarliest buck you have ever seen walks by at 7am on opening day? Too bad...you haven't killed your doe yet. You don't get many opportunities at big bucks, and I think either of these restrictions reduce that opportunity even more. I would like to see Oklahoma blaze its own trail and keep a two buck limit. I doubt I'll kill a two-buck limit very often (if ever) but I'd like to have the liberty to choose on my own. sorry for the rant.:cool2: -
Dang Jemamie...you got the raw end of the deal. You should give the waders to your brother and make him do the fetching!

Question for Oklahoma and other Hunters about harvesting deer.

I'd be shooting for sure... -
That pic has been around. Supposedly it is a buck shot in SE Oklahoma that was poached out of season. Heard the game wardens caught the guy a just few weeks ago.

I agree. Also the brightest pin on the market.
