  5. 2 more weeks from tomorrow is my second ever elk hunt, first one was a bust, I was drawn close to home and the elk were all in a huge game preserve not coming out, I hunted hard for a week and never had a cow in range[cow elk tag] this time is in same zone but the game preserve is no longer a game preserve and the thousand or so elk are scattered all over the country by the natve hunting the past 2 years, they took alot but scattered a lot to, I talked to a ranche 50 miles away an d he said he has seen a few in his pasture, yesterdaythe first draw we checked a bull was standing below me at 45 yards then the bush came alive, elk ran out the far side for at least 5 minutes strait, I counted 60 and lost track, 13 bulls and rest the cows and calves I am after, the were all 160- yards away and I had the muzzle loader for whitetail but no ML season for elk for some reason, I asked permission to all the nieghbors land and got on all exept for one small chunk right next to were they were,I also forgot to tell everyone I seen the elk lol!!I figure if they do not know if someone calls for permission they can not say they seen them all!!I am more exited over this elk hunt than if I was hunting a monster deer even though its a cow, all I can see is 400 pounds of elk in the freezer lol!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I went out yesterday more spotting for a upcoming elk tag I have and inbetween areas did a bit of calling, called in coyotes in every stand [6 stands] I got 4 coyotes and buddy missed 2, had 2 more coming in on one the buddy missed one at, the varmet grenades in the .223 I reloaded are exellant, 3800 fps and no damage, hit the front shoulder on 1 and on the exit side was just a couple small bone holes, the rest no exits, the one was 160 yards and I hit her and she dropped and got back up, I hit her again, I am not sure if it was a perfect shot becouse I did not skin her, all mangy, that is the bad part, only 1 good coyote out of the 4,the one was 279 yards and I put the crosshairs on high shoulder and he dropped before I heard the boom, I love it!! All the coyotes in the bush country we got were mangy, the one good one was a farmland coyote I got right by town last stand! It was a good start to a new season but if the mange is bad it will hurt the pocket book bad!!!
  7. congrats jcwa!!!! pm me you addy ect please, I prob still have it but in this mess who knows lol!!!I will get the paperwork done up this week what ever day the warden is in and get it out!! Hope you like them!!!
  8. been a hectic year, 6 weeks of hunting every morning before work and every night, scared to even think of the money I spent on gas, most of it consentrted on one specific buck, I have hunted him hard for 2 years had so many close calls but no luck, this am we had a foot of fresh snow, everyone said I was a idiot going out but I did, after a couple hours of glassing I spotted him in a small slough, I came around and he was gone, I watched him go for 2 miles then go into a huge lake bottom, I figured I had him, wind was right and fresh tracks, I tracked him for 3 hours and ended up the same place and seen him a mile across the lake bedded watching me, i was had it, i decided to check out a new area were a supposed 200" typ was running, after a few hours I spotted him in a pea field, I figured a 180 class but I l0oved the way he flared out, Being upset from morning I decided to go after him, after a 1/4 mile stock in a open pea field I came up a draw crawling, soaked from head to tow by the melting snow, I crested the hill and seen him bedded with 7 does I ranged at 167 set the crosshairs a little high knowing it drops 4 inches at 150 and boom, he toppled over, I had to finish him off becouse i spined him but could not figure out why, the bullet hit the shoulder blade and followed it deflecting it back, took out the spine and lodged under the skin new his rump, I am amazed it did not shatter the shoulder blade, maybe becouse he was laying down , oh well he is down and my 6 week hunt is over, its my best mulie ever, he will make the sask record books, and the longhunter books, not to many in our farmland area does, my buddy who is a official scorer for B&C quickly put the tape on him as we skinned him, he got 185 gross, he will loose 4 inches or so,he is right on the 30'' outside, I will not enter him or get him officially scored, does not really matter to me, all I know is my hunt is over with a nice deer, now time to consentrate on yotes!!
  9. nope she has been super lucky, [i think its the guide lol]first year mulie she got a nice 140 class 3 by 3 mule after missing a hog that would of scored well over 185 typ, she has gotten 3 whitetail bucks, first one in 120 range, second 140 range and a monster last fall, would of went close to 170" if not one tine broke off, this is the buck she got last year,
  10. this am we went out to try to find amule deer for my daughter or a monster for me, first light we spotted one one the horizen, I seen the forks were uneven but long beams and nice width, I figured 28", I told her it would gross in the 165 mark and gave her the desision, she said lets get in position and she would decide, we crested the hill and it was standing 20 yards below us and bleww off, I grunted and it stopped at 143 yards, My daughter said its huge, lol, they look huge going away with that width, she got on the shooting sticks and all I heard was boom and seen the deer drop, she could not see through all the smoke from the smokepole, she asked if she got it and I said look at it laying there, I was happier than if I got a B&C deer, the look of exitement was worth all the time I spend spotting and out there!!we gross scored it at 177 and will net just over the 165, it had a outside measurement at 28 1/2 inches, and 25 inch beams, prettygood for a 16 year old , I told her it took me till I was nerly 30 to get one like that lol!! i asked her if she want to enter it in the longhunters books, and she said no, she said like I do I hunt for fun not to compeat and I am so proud of her!!!here is a pic of her monster!! http://www.realtree.com/img/500/medium/kayleesdeer_004.JPG

    Amazing!!!!!!

they are getting a lot of flack becouse of it I guess but they said they do not have nets there and with the amount of people in the visinity they were scared that the 5 minutes it takes to put the cat down there might be trouble, just there decision and I am pretty sure most wardens would make the right decision, they want to protect them and not kill them!!
  13. I need the hammer to go back before it can drop lol!!!!!

    Amazing!!!!!!

Today in Saskatoon Sask Canada a couger was shot inside the city, they did not have a oppertunity to trankulize it so killed it becouse of the city, they found a coller on the cat, It was collered in North Dakota blackhills on april !!!!!this year!!! That is 1000 Km, or 630 miles that big cat moved, they said the farthest they have record is one who moved from the blackhills to Oklahoma which was 650 miles they said, I was amazed to hear this!!
  15. As most of you have heard and seen pics of the monster mule deer I have had in my dreams for 2 years now, he got away again tonight, the 8th time I was in range and somethign went wrong, not a shot yet in the past 2 years! All started last year on sept 1 first day of bow season, after 2 months of spotting and filming this big boy the bow season was on, i did not see him from my lookout point so I decided to still hunt the area, cama over a knoll, and all that was there was a small chunk of weeds, up he stood at 10 yards, instead of drawing the bow I kind of froze and he was gone, I got to a hill and watched him go into a finger 3/4 mile away and not coem out, after 2 hours off I went and got to the edge and sat there for the day if needed ,he had to be within 30 yards bedded, after 1/2 hour 3 small bucks come up the trail and snort at me at 5 yards spooking him, next saterday I seen him from my lookout point6 and got to were I figured he would come, he came right down the trail, all he had to do was come over a hill and I could get a 30 yard shot, instead all I seen was antler tips stop and turn around,he went and bedded in the draw right beside it, To get the wind right I had to go way around and come in from the opposite direction, everythign per4fect,I was 25 yards from his antler tips, I sat with my back toa big sage brusha nd was expecting a long wait, wind right in my face, perfect, 20 minutes in he jumped like he was shot and took off not even thinking about looking back, next time I seen him was 3 weeks later, 4 miles away, I watched him go into a small slough, my only chance was a sneek with the sun in my face, I crested a hill and there he was at 40 yards or so, I could see the sticker,I drew back let fly, he buckled and turned to take off, It was the wrong buck, my buck was still behind me,On tusday night he was 70 yards away from me, but I only had the bow and ML did not open till wed, wed morn I was in position waiting for him, he was down the pea field 500 yards, I backed out and came back at night, I got in position along a fence and waited, he came right out of were I expected, but with sun setting I had to get closer before dark,I got to the hill I knew was coming by and he did but at 40 yards or so farhter than I was practiced at shooting at, I was sure I coudl make the shot but did not want to blow it so I let him go over the hill, This am he was in a pea field at the opposite side of the coulees, I decided to leave till tonight, I was there right after work, got along the fence line and waited, next thing I seen 15 deer bedded in the middle of the feild, I backed out and came around, he was 580 yards, i got on my belly and started the long crawl, got to 220, but wanted to close a bit, I was amazed I was gaining on a wide open field, ranged at 163, perfect my deer is dead I thought, i put the crosshairs on the center of the shoulder,I know it drops 4 inches at 150 yards soI expected 6 inch drop, I tried to pull the hammer back but it would not go, its a buddies gun and I kept trying for at least 1/2 hour[was prob 20 seconds lol] then I realized the safty was 1/2 way between, must of got jamed when crawling, i finally got the hammer back and he was walking away, This is 8 times the bugger has gotten away from me, I am starting to get really obsessed with this deer, Its really starting to get to me big time, I just feel like he is a ghost or something, I sure hope he is part cat and he only has 9 lives,I truthfully can not take much more of this or I will be the one dead with a heart attack or stroke, my blood was boiling so bad after the hammer incedent lol!!Just simmering a bit now but still pretty hot! Just hope I get a 9th chance, Only have about a hour of hunting in the AM and a hour after work now by the time I get there,
  16. congrats!!!! 2-3 more weeks and I will be hopefully doin the same thing, good luck this winter!!!
  17. glad to see you again Don and Kandi, Have talked to you in the past and want to thank you for all you have done for my hunting, Here in southern sask people just go out and hunt, after watching and listing to how you do it, I started the all year long method, spotting all winter while coyote hunting shed hunting all spring, all summer spotting and now me and the daughter consistantly get the biggest deer in the area, it costs a fortune and takes up all my spart time but knowing the deer youa re hunting is worth it, right now I am after a 35" mule deer I have dreamed about every night for 2 years, have over 2 hours of footage of him and every morn and night I am after him, I finall drew a rifle tag for the area and I have 5 weeks left to get him,[3 more ML and 2 rifle] he will make a mistake, I truthfully beleive without listing to you and watching you guys I would not of known how to do it all! I thank you for the shows and teaching people the right way to hunt, good luck this fall and come back to visit soon !!

    cool find

I found this the other day hiking the hills in search of a monster mule deer, just the one tip out of the ground by a dry spring bed, I talked to a guy who does a bunch of old artifacts ect and he said the minerals and iron in the spring water preserved it and he says by the horn shape and the 13 inch width between the bases of the horns its prob a really old buffalo plate,he says it could be up to 3500 hundred years old but has to do some tests to prove it, he says this buff prob stood 7 ft at the shoulder, he kind of wants me to put it in the mueseum but I am not sure, sure will look good in my livingroom lol!!not even sure if I will get it tested or not, its a awsoem find for me!!
  19. here are 2 nice tanned coyote hides less the claws, lips and tip of nose a bit deformed on the darker one and the lighter [tawny, yellow one ] has a path of hair slippage on bottom of belly you can see in the pic of the beliies, these coyotes would of sold for the 40 doller mark last winter at sale not tanned, last winter was a weak market, in 85 these were 200 doller coyotes,I want to sell them together becouse its a nightmare of paperwork to get them able to ship to the USA, if you and a buddy want to each take one no prob but all the paperwork and documents from the wardens here will be made up to the buyer, theya re totally legal here just make sure its legal in your state to buy tanned hides! I am stating the aucton off with my bid of 50 dollers,if youw ant more pics just ask, I will take more and post them, good luck and rememeber its for one of realtrees longest member who is having a terrable time!! http://www.realtree.com/img/649/medium/hide_006.JPG http://www.realtree.com/img/649/medium/hide_007.JPG http://www.realtree.com/img/649/medium/hide_008.JPG
  20. no pics tonight, this am he was at the far end of the pea filed, I tried to amke a stalk but could not get within 300 yards so I called it a morning and let him bed down, tonight I knew the area he bedded so went and sat on a fence line, just as the sun was setting the 2 bucks came out of a slough at 750 yards, fed for a while and started my direction, I checked the clock I had 27 minutes left to hunt, I worked in front of him as fast but as carefull as I could got to a knoll and he was 242 yards, my buddy said he has taken a speed goat at 250 but even with the hammer cocked and cross hairs just over his back I decided not to shoot, one of the hardest decisions ever but never shooting it over 200 yards I did not want to wound him he was feeding and me stuck there for about 5 minutes till he dropped in a low spot and I made my way there to the hill top, I crawled over and ranged the far hill and it was 194, I know at 200 clean the gun drops 11 inches, and he came up, right were I ranged, I tried to get the scope on him but could just not see good enough looking into the west, I still had 5 minutes of legal time left but was to dark to know exactly were to shoot so I watched them trot over the hill, I do not think they are scared becouse the slowly left, hopefully tomorrow night he is back there after I get my daughters full, we spotted 3 160-175 class bucks 2 miles from town tonight, perfect deer for her, hoping to get hers at 530 and mne by 7 tomorrow night lol!! keep you posted!!!
  21. tomorrow is the first day of ML season and I have a mule buck tag, tonight I went out with the bow just sort of spotting for tomorrow before work, [i wll have about 2 hours to hunt] I spotted a good 175-180 class buck that did the sneak at 20 yards not giving me a broadside shot, might be telling me something becouse just at dark I drove by my spot were I had the super wide non typ I hunted last year and there he was in the pea field, I figured last year he was a 220 class but looked way smaller this year the past few times I seen him, my buddy who was with me said he is a 200 inch deer, he is a B&C scorer and said If I do not go after him he is admitting me into ward lol, just got off with a rancher and he says he seen him this am just across the road in a pea field, I am so exited you can not beleive it, thsi deer has been haunting me for 14 months and now it might end, btw i even cheated I borrowed a buddies inline just so I can extend the range, i always said I would not becouse its like a rifle I like the old ball and powder but I guess thsi deer has brought out the worse in me lol!!! Let you know at dinner how things went!!! hopefully pics!!!
  22. the way I got it figured is you may spook a deer or you may blow a chance at a big buck, but you will not have a chance if you are sitting home, I believe and do hunt as much as I can, wind wrong hunt a different location, right now I only have 2 hours anight after work but I am out there every night, I would rather hunt and spook the odd deer and have a chance at a deer than sit at home! I do agree the less pressure they better your chance, but on the other hand when you can's spend more time in the woods becouse of work school ect, you may as well at least have some chance and be outthere,I would rather go the whole season without harvesting a deer being able to be out hunting then sit at home and not get a deer, hunting is not about the killing in my eyes!!I guess its all about your situation, if you are after a specific deer and you deffinatly do not want to spook it do not go, if you love to hunt and just want the experiance and a chance at a deer get out there but on short nights do not go to your best stand locations!! just my opinion!!!!
  23. who cares about the score, really nice buck congrats ona a mature and massive buck!!!
