  1. Picked up a TC Omega Z5 from a co-worker last spring. Went out a couple times last year. Still got a tag left this year and shot the ML yesterday...impressed with the accuracy of this thing - approx. 60-70 yard shot with open sights and 2 shots grouped in the bullseye approx. 1 inch apart....Of course hoping on the deer being closer. Would be neat to my first ML deer. Plan to go out tonight then have a 3 day weekend coming up!Good luck to everyone still hunting!
  2. If sign-ups simmer down, I'll do the drawing soon than the listed date:)
  3. Kcall, Husabud, Firestation - you have not met the minimum post requirements.
  4. Adding in names from the other thread: SteveBeilgard, dbHunterNY, WStreblo, Dawg . Anyone new to the contest make sure to read the rules!
  5. It's that time of year again folks. For those who are new, we do a random drawing each year for interested members to exchange gifts with one another over the holiday season. If you are interested simply post your username in this thread and on December 14, 2013 I will draw names for exchange partners. It will be your responsibilty to get in contact with your partner to work out shipment and all that fun stuff. The only rules are that you must send a gift in order to receive one. It's not any fun when a partner doesn't fullfill his/her side of the deal. This has always been a great time on this site and is looked forward to by many members. You must be a member with at least 200 posts, or a long time member who is approved by a moderator. Members not following through will be banned from the exchange the following year. On a side note, I want to remind everyone to make sure you can do this before you sign up. Unforseen circumstances do occur. If that happens let your partner know, and don't leave them hanging. It just makes for a bad situation. You will be banned from the exchange if this happens and you do not notify your partner about what is going on. These rules aren't meant to be mean, they just help things go smoothly. Happy holidays! Get signed up! The sign up deadline is December 13th. Spending limit is $20 - $25.
  6. Don't look em' in the eye...lol! Actually sounds like everyone has covered pretty much all the bases. This year I probably had more deer out of range or get spooky on me than years past...weather was tough this year to....Re-evaluate your set-up. If you are in a ground blind, perhaps those deer have already been shot at by someone in a blind or they just know something is 'out of place'. I'm a tree stand hunter, do have a blind set-up in our woods but rarely hunt it.
  7. Now ya'll don't get too excited about our score, lol. Still trying to upgrade here but will probably just get my 4 point entered...just in case;)
  8. I'd say we got about 6-8" of snow...really heavy stuff. Weather cold but looking more sunny for the weekend:)
  9. To each their own, if they are proud of what they shoot, kudos. But I change the channel whenever there is a show on and they are hunting African animals like that - lion, zebra, elephant, etc...or it's obviously a penned area full of whitetail....I don't support that kind of hunting...it's just me. I also believe you should eat whatever you shoot...
  10. What a great buck, congrats to him!
  11. Great buck zizzer! Still got some time left here to upgrade! Have my gun bucktag left so got about a week in shotgun then a week of ML. If no upgrade, will enter my archery 4 point. Great job everyone!!
  12. A little late but happy birthday!
  13. Well I've only been out twice this gun season so far: opening day and an afternoon on a day off. Was going to go out this AM but was tired from work the night before and slept in. Well I'm out doing barn chores and between 11am and 12pm I'm walking down to feed the chickens (does this story sound familiar) and am watching the hill in our woods and spot a deer bedded! I turn around and walk back to the house, grab my gun and vest and slugs. Go back out and walk back down, it's still bedded. I sit down but am shaking out of excitement so then I go prone on the ground and look through my scope, it's a doe, don't see any others. I put my crosshairs on her shoulder, I'm guessing somewhere between 50 and 70 yard shot, squeeze the trigger and she barely moved, dead in her bed! Went back to the house and got my knife and the gator, saw another one standing looking at her, never saw it before the shot. Anyway a nice medium sized doe to put my DMP on. And the kicker? Last year Nov. 27 (I keep a journal now) I shot a doe on this same hill a mere few feet below where this one was and saw that one as well while going to feed the chickens. CRAZY! And today was Nov. 26th so literally 1 year to the day!
  14. Just posting this a little early due to working next week. Hope everyone has a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving, be safe! May sure to give thanks to God!
  15. Great deer guys, awesome! Going out this afternoon with the shotgun and prob. tomorrow AM....plenty of time left in shotgun season and muzzleloader to see if I upgrade!
  16. Thinks it's here in NY as well. Saw one small buck yesterday AM, that was it....
  17. Yep that is a once in a lifetime NY buck, congrats to your cousin, it's a beauty!
  18. I much prefer my deer within 30 yards and actually every deer I have taken so far in my hunting career has been under 30, farthest has been around 25. If you're comfortable, confident, and it's the right shooting situation, ok, but any question of doubt at a distance, why risk wounding the deer?
  19. Thanks everyone! Yeah the JD Gator is a work horse and beast:)
  20. Wow, what a buck! Congrats to your friend!
  21. Congrats Randy!! Great story and awesome buck!!
  22. Well with only a week left in the season, it's getting down to the wire. Been holding out for one of the nicer one's I've gotten on cam, but I had seen a 4 point - not huge but nice for a 4 - on cam and from the stand, I decided if I aw him, I'd take him. Went out this AM and about 7:30ish heard something to my right, catch a deer coming down the trail, immediately stood and turned, grabbed my bow, saw it was the 4, drew back and grunted, he stopped, and around 15-18 yards sent an arrow behind his left shoulder, tad high, buried almost to the fletching, watch him run off and thought I could see blood running down his side. Blood immediately at the shot site and probably about a 100 yards later found him, arrow got broken but it did pass through and come out almost 1/2 way down behind the left shoulder. Could have tried holding out a few more days but working this weekend and all next week except Tuesday, who knows when my next shot opp. would have been...Gotta put meat in the freezer. Very happy with the deer. On to shotgun next weekend!
  23. Great to see ya back Randy! Great people on here for you to talk to if you need to vent! Hang in there.!
  24. Having taken care of patients with stones, I sympathize for ya! Not a fun experience at all. Make sure you drink lots of water:)
  25. Congrats on the brute of a buck!! What a beauty! Put my tag on a deer this weekend, nice tender button buck, was not proud of my shot though, shooter error. Now it's on to trying to tag a buck before season ends.
