  4. but I guess that's bowhunting. I went out this morning and hunted over my hamann farms food plot. About 30 minutes after first light a small buck pops out of no where on the plot and starts filling his belly full of trefoil and clover. He gets about 50 yards away then pops his head up--gets the "rut" look with his head down and runs into the trees pushing 3 does out. That little 1 1/2 year old buck thought he was top dog until a nice mature 8 pointer comes out of the trees. The little one tucks tail and takes off. The mature buck lets a little grunt then starts chasing the does. I tried everything---grunting/bleating with the can to try to get him into range but he never came closer than 60 yards. He was big bodied with a respectable 8 point rack. hopefully I will get another chance at him todd

  9. Re: HUNTING A FOOD PLOT!!! (not as easy as it sounds) man---as you know, the acorn crop in oklahoma is incredible right now. the deer have plenty of food in the woods right now so a lot of food plot use is at night. I have found that food plot hunting is better as the season goes on. Don't over hunt a plot--this will cause the deer to become nocturnal. Morning hunts can be dangerous--the deer around my area seem to start hitting the plots about an hour before shooting light. If you are going to do morning hunts you need to get to your stand a minimum of an hour before shooting light. I try to get there 2 hours before shooting light---when I do I see more deer. Another option is to try to find there bedding area and set up a stand between the bedding are and the food plot. best of luck todd

    2 months...

Re: 2 months... Racksie-----we always wonder if your still alive--glad you are. Welcome back---I look forward to "Rack Tales"---Racksie's Adventures! Are you going to get to hunt at all? todd
  11. Re: What has happened to this place? I've been a member for over 2 years and actually haven't seen that big of change. The guy that post a pic of a small buck he killed seems to get just as many cngratulatory posts as the guy that kills a nice 8 pointer. I might not agree with killing that button buck or spike but I will still congrats the hunter. I don't see a problem with disagreeing with someones shot selection--like what had been going on in the bowhunting forum. I don't remember anyone calling names just voicing an opinion. I did tease Ryan a little about his muzzleloader buck--but that was only b/c of a previous post he had made that he holds out for bigger bucks with a rifle/muzzleloader--but then posts a pic of his 2004 muzzleloader buck and I swear I saw a little milk on that bucks muzzle ---he knew it was a joke! Hey gator---you still owe me lunch! You better pay up quickly or I'll do to you what I did to your dog BTW guys I neutered Gator's dog a couple months ago! todd

  16. Re: TV programming hmmm--I completely agree with you but I just don't see this happen on TV. I don't have the Outdoor Channel but do have OLN and ESPN--my only source of hunting shows. I guess they do a better editing job on their shows. todd

    Dog Question

Re: Dog Question i contacted the game warden about a similiar problem---he told me there was nothing he could do to contact the sheriff. contacted the Sheriff's dep't---they told me there is no leash law in the area and nothing they could do. he then told me if it was his land he would shoot them--but just don't get caught. I have had several hunts ruined by the neighbors coon dog----i have contacted him several times but he doesn't care. a very frustrating situation. I just don't have it in me to shoot the dog--he is actually a very sweet dog. I have popped him with a BB gun a few times which runs him off but he is always back. tough situation and also a very common problem. If you shoot the dog----just make sure you don't get caught---and hide the body really good or at least drag it off your property. todd
  21. Re: Critique yet another paper...if you don\'t mind.... I see a few changes I would make---grammer changes but it otherwise it looks good. I'm sure tominator will critique it for you. good job todd
  22. Re: Scored with the smokepole...... [ QUOTE ] Hey dogdoc.....I don't have a muzzleloader. Seriously!! [/ QUOTE ] the way you shoot a bow you don't need one. you shoot a bow better than I do a ML! todd

  24. Re: Scored with the smokepole...... no problem my friend! todd
  25. Re: how good are you at long shots? Were you hunting with your .270 on the 31st (last day of muzzleloader) or just shooting it? Get caught pointing that rifle at a deer and you'd be in some trouble
