  1. congrats--nice buck. Enjoyed the video. todd
  2. What a beautiful morning in the new tower stand. On the way to the 160 we saw a shooting star--Mollyann said "That's good luck daddy--I'm making my wish." We got all settled in the stand at 6:40 and had a short 20 minute wait to legal shooting time. Well the first 45 minutes were very uneventful and around 7:45 Mollyann saw a deer walking in the tall NWSG field headed our way to the food plot (BTW--the plot looks awesome). The buck stops behind a small pecan tree and stood there for 5 minutes. That gave us plenty of time to rearrange the Caldwell field tripod. The buck then walked onto the field and gave us a perfect 75 yard broadside shot. As soon as the buck stopped I told Mollyann to take the shot anytime. As soon as "anytime" came out the shot was fired. The buck took off running and Mollyann immediately says "I'm missed daddy--I am so sorry." I'm watching the buck run and tell her "Girl--you didn't miss that buck." The buck runs about 100 yards and piles up. No waiting 30 minutes for this girl. She sees that buck hit the ground and she is jumping up and wanting out of that blind to go see her very first deer ever. A basic 6 pointer but he had already broken off his right brow tine but has a one inch kicker off that base so officially still a 6 pointer. Dressed out at a little over 130#. Her shooting star wish came true. One excited girl and very proud daddy!!! todd
  3. I don't know. Not very wide--probably needs a couple more years.
  4. William--Unfortunately i have a lot of dogs that get dumped in my area. If they are on my land chasing deer then they must go. We had a pack of around 8 dogs show up in our area. I've had them find me in a deer stand and bark at me and growl. They ended up killing a neighbors calf. I spend too much time and money getting my place ready for deer hunting to tolerate stray dogs chasing deer and ruining my hunt and stressing out the wildlife. todd
  5. I've been taking my daughters in the deer stand and duck blind since they were around 4 years old. They both love to hunt. Youngest daughter (now 12) shot her first deer last season and the oldest daughter (14 now) shot her first turkey last spring. welcome back todd
  6. My favorite is duck fajitas or quesadillas. I get a fajita marinade and soak overnight. Sauteed in the marinade with green peppers and onions. Just like you would make regular beef or chicken fajitas. My kids favorite meal. Just don't overcook the meat.

  8. the pump on my pulsator pooped out last year and I don't think I am going to replace it. I have fallen for the Wonder Duck. It's lite and easy to get in and produces some good movement in the spread. I've pretty much retired my mojo's and only use them when hunting frozen water. Break the ice and make a little hole and put a couple wonder ducks in the hole and a couple mojo's around the hole and it's a killer set up. I'll also put up a few full bodies around the hole and that even makes it more deadly. good luck this season. If I don't get some good rains my season may be a bust anyway. todd

    Ford Eco Boost

I have a 2014 F150 Eco-boost. Best gas mileage I have gotten is 21 on HWY driving to Houston. Averages about 16---most city driving. I haven't pulled anything super heavy---flatbed trailer with my 34hp Kubota. Pulls great. I have 18,000 miles with no problems at all. Push that pedal and the sucker takes off like a rocket. I love my truck. todd
  12. I planted over labor day weekend. It has been dry and September is usually one of our wettest months of the year. We do need some rain pretty bad. todd
  13. Plots are coming along ok---been very dry. Main plot:
  14. Finished the tower Put up 3 ground blinds
  15. sucks being old Martin:hammer1: I call instagram a kids version of facebook. The only reason I know about it is bc both my daughters love instagram. lol
  16. antlers always look bigger from behind but that deer looks like a brute to me. Martin, I think that buck would go way over 120. Look at the length on those G2s and good mass. I would like to have a broadside view to help you give him an age but I would have a hard time passing up those antlers. I can't see the 2nd pic either. todd
  17. best of luck--sounds like you did your work. Hauling 40 gallons of water almost a half a mile is a chore. I hope your hard work pays off. Stay out of the place now and let it calm down and be sure to hunt the wind. If the wind isn't right--even though you really wanna go---don't do it. Are there other other areas on the farm you can sit up a ground blind or even make your own ground blind? That way you will have multiple spots to hunt with different winds. good luck todd

  21. My daughter has been shooting a youth model 243 since she was 12. I would also opt for the 243. todd
  22. I also did a few pecan grafts. Changing the hard small native pecans to a larger paper shell pecan. Hope to have these new pecans in a few years.
