Good luck guys, hope yall are able to supply the headaches! We are playing in the rain trying to learn a new lease before the opener on Monday. Looks like we'll be rained on then too but we have found good news here, seems to be lots of birds!
-
Guys I'm sorry for keepin' you waiting on the pics. Dropped in town just long enough to dump out a little of the sand and now we're in Alabama playin' in the rain tryin to find some birds for their Monday opener. I'll have them up as soon as I'm able to get to the keyboard. Hope yall AL, SC low country, and MS boys are hot on them.

Alright, I'll be a second vote for the Gobble Thieves. We need another one to make it offical. I scored on our first bird, not a brute but good for a true Big Cypress swamp bird. Lets keep it rollin'! -
Go ahead and make it a pair of South Florida public land swamp birds takin' a not so joy ride back to Georgia. Coaxed Poncho a dandy longbeard down a sandy road for him to tip over this morning a few minutes till 8. Back to Georgia.......
-
He shoots,He scores. We have an Osceola that'll be returning to Georgia! The silent treatment was too much for a mouthy 2 year old to take, swallowed a couple oz of #6s a few minutes til 9 this morning. Now it's Poncho's turn.

While I've got good service I would like to go ahead and congratulate Mr.huntinguide. Last I heard he and longtime better half Haley were offically tying the knot on the 12th of this month. So congratulations bud, you definately got yourself a keeper.

Update: The reports were spot on this year, the place is a zoo! Some big let downs so far and no dead turkeys. But we are in the woods huntin so I guess it can't be so bad. We've relocated for the next two days, we'll stay hard at it and update when able.
-
Sure do wish we had access to a lease too, dry year has people easily reaching spots that are not normally easy to reach. Gonna be a crowded year it sounds, but 3 hours to go. Still on the move.
-
On our way to the swamps again, got about 3.5 hours behind us so far. Reports say tomorrow is going to be windy and the traffic has hit the public land early this year. Should arrive in time to get a bearin' on one if they are talking. I'll try to keep you boys updated on the happenings with the blackberry. Later for now.

Huntin4, the birds gobbling over there yet? We made the trip over last Sunday to the lease. . . . it is close to the small town of Weogufka, south of Talladega. Anyways, there was 6" of snow on the ground so our trip was useless.

Well, there's 3. -
If you want a really good owl hooter look at the Harrison Hoot tube from Hooks. That is as close as you're gonna get to having feathers I gaurantee. He won the nationals this year with it, unbelievable. I use my voice, but I've been at it awhile.

Go figure, needed his nicotine i reckon.

Use a more fine grit, 180 to slick it up.

Lets get all checked in. . . . . Dave from North Georgia. Will be hunting Ga, Fl, Al and Ok this year for sure. Hunt almost everyday of the season. Lets hear it guys. -
I been hard at it fellas, you've heard the stories now see and hear it all for yourselves. Starting to show what we've been able to capture on film. This is the first morning the Oklahoma boys (huntinguide and his buddy Andrew) hunted with us in Georgia. Andrew hammered his first Eastern and best bird to date, a true toad. Scrappy does his thing and pulls the boy to spittin' distance from all four of us in the blind. Turn the volume up and scope it out for yourself. There will be more to come. YouTube username: theSouthernGentlemen First light, turn the volume up and listen to the all the turkey talk!! Scene 1 Soon after, I have to really get after all the hens b/c they're roosted with the longbeard across the river just behind us. Lots to hear on this short clip. Scene 2 The fat boy flies the river and makes his appreance. Must've said something good. Scene 3 The toad comes eye to eye with Scrappy Jr and takes the Beak Smashin'! Scene 4 The post hunt interview.

As for as what I carry, I think I stay kinda light. One slate over crystal Madhatter track player w/ a pair of strikers, 4 or 5 diaphrams, couple locators (Crow/Woodpecker), gloves, facemask (one extra), gps and record book/pen, headlamp plus extra, flashlight, batteries, rangefinder, binos, thermacell and refills, turkey wing, 1 hen sceery decoy, pruners, bottle of water, couple snacks (depending on the stay), camera, short piece of rope, small tape measure, usually a small land boundary map if hunting public, few extra shells, plus of course shotgun. Sometimes depending on location I may pack a cedar longbox too. Sounds like a lot now that i put on paper. Hum.

If you're given the luxury of roosting some birds or getting a good pattern on the birds, set up a blind and carry both- prop the gun up in the corner and go to work.
-
Nothing like smackin' beaks for yourself! Don't get me wrong, I love getting young and inexperienced folks in the woods and letting them witness the rush. I will always choose to take someone before I would hunt for myself, but when you call for someone your job is to get that bird in shotgun range, you're not the one taking the wind outta their sails. On the other hand, when you are finishing the job once they're in range it's still up to you to execute the mission and this is often when things get real!
-
Hope you can make good use of that tag!! Dont sell yourself short, those SD birds will respond like turkeys are suppose to!! Good Luck

No doubt my diaphram- maybe Hooks, maybe Woodhaven, maybe the one I just picked up in Nashville. Think its a Tom Teaser or Perfection.
