Re: success
I have been doing alright so far this year. I got a doe and a small 6-ptr with the bow, a small 6 ptr with the shotgun, and so far a big doe with the muzzleloader.
Re: new jersey bowhunters
I will be out there. I will be out with the bow in zone 10. I have my muzzleloader for zone 8, but I am losing alot of my land there. But yes, I will be out there all bundled up. I will also be putting out some corn from time to time. I really do not need it in the fields that I hunt, but it is nice to get them to stop in front of me as they are heading out to the field.
Good luck
Re: trucks...
I drive a 2002 Ford Ranger Extra Cab. Being I am not married, nor do I have kids, so it fits me great. During the winter I get @ 17 mpg and the summer is @ 19 mpg, and that is with 265/75/R16 BFG All-terrains on it. It goes everywhere I need her to go and then some.
Re: New Jersey Gun Week
Took my buddy out for his first NJ gun hunt. He scored a nice 3-ptr right at dark. I made him sit in that stand all day knowing that they do not come out in that field till night. But he was so excited. Got another on hooked for life.
Re: New Jersey Gun Week
I did alright this today in the rain and sleet. I shot a 6 ptr. at 1:45 this afternoon, in the heavy rain. Not the biggest deer, but in todays conditions it is a trophy in my eyes.
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO???
Personally I would stay away from the Mossberg 935. I have not heard a good review about that gun yet. I picked up the 11-87 Super Mag. I love those Remingtons. Will cycle any round you put through it. For your 2 3/4" low brass you just have to add an extra gas seal to the tube, which they supply.
Re: 3\" or 3 1/2\"???
Well I made the decision this past weekend. I went with the Remington 11-87 SP Super Mag. I was given a price that I could not pass up.
Thank you everyone.
I have been shooting 3" for years. I am looking at purchasing a new shotgun this year.
What is the advantage of a 3 1/2", besides more lead?
I was just doing some reading on the velocities of buckshot and duck loads at 3' from the muzzle and the 2 3/4" is the fastest, 3" coming in 2nd, and the 3 1/2 coming in last.
Re: Worst Bow?
I would have to say the Martin Hunter (Recurve) I was shooting for a bit. I finally got to hunt with it. Got out in the woods. Get up in the tree, go to draw on a deer, and the thing snaps like a twig. I punched myself right in the face as the limbs snapped. It had nothing to do with the quality of a Martin Recurve, it had a bit of dry-rot.
I used the Magnus 2 bladed w/ the bleeder blade once. They killed both deer I shot at and hit. But, they left no blood trail. Thank god the deer did not go farther than 50 - 60 yards, but just no blood. And no blood makes for a long day of tracking sign.
Re: Sad Day in Maine
Nice sled, I use to run a MXZ 583. Till I crashed it. Not too bad though. Only 5 broken ribs, collapsed lung, and a concusion. But all in all it was not bad. Oh yeah, only $3.00 worth of damage to sled in accident.
Re: No concerns
Looks similar to my parents' backyard. They have an acre of land in a residential area. There are more deer than you could imagine. I see about 15 deer leaving their neighborhood, then maybe 2 in the woods. But, you can not hunt where they live.
Re: Trail Drag
I use a drag. I feel that it does work, when the bucks are chasing. I have had deer walk right up to it. plus, when I get to my stand I just hang it in the tree to attract whatever is down wind.
Re: Bear Hunt
I got my bear in Ontario last year with the bow. It was just the best. 8 yrd shot. Talk about a rush.
He was 325 lbs. rough measure on skull is 19 7/8. I am getting officially measured for Pope & Young.
Good Luck...
I spend a week almost every year in Maine rifle hunting. And I can tell you that I did not contribute to that kill this past year. I did pass up a small spike on the first day of the hunt, so sense in driving 600 miles to shoot a spike. I want his dad or his grandpa...

Re: Wood Ticks...
When I was living in Va. Beach and hunting down there on Navy bases. That place was loaded with deer ticks. I use to take a shower in flea and tick killer everytime I came out of the woods. I hate'm...
