Thanks for the info.

Just wondering if the 250 Savage has the UUUmmph to take down whitetails at 300 yards? More? Given I do my part of coarse. Thanks
-
I got my box yesterday and was blown away with all the reloading stuff he sent too. Dies, brass, and about 5 or so different weight projectiles. All that with an OTT 24" full bull fluted 250 Sav, forend, and 6 hole base. $410 Man I scored huge on this deal. I just ordered a stinger stock set in Timber camo and have a 6.5-20x50 piece of glass for the top. It should be quiet the little demon when I am done.

I am thinking of trying the boy on this for his 1st deel cal. I, naturally, will be using something much much bigger. LOL I am a Gold Member ya know.. LOL Thanks guys.

Just got my hands on a sweet custom 250 Savage Encore rifle bbl. Full bull fluted. (OTT built) I have no experience with this cal and was wondering how well it would do on VT deer? If it will not then I suppose I can use the Encore 500 S&W handgun I have. LOL Thanks.

Yep thats a steal! Congrats on the new toy!

I admit I am bit nervous to let the 1st one fly but I do plan to start out with lower grain ammo to begin with and work up from there, once I am use to shooting the beast... Should make a pretty good hole in these VT deer. LOL
-
Yes the 500 demands a 3rd if not 4th ring to help with the recoil. Its been known to kill scopes quickly... Charlie-I am counting on the brake to brake well. LOL However I know there are some choices of ammo out there to fit my bill. Not everything needs a 700g pill outa one of these bad boys... The gun in the pic is not going to be mine completely. I am buying the bbl, base, grip and forend for $625 shipped. I have a line on a SS frame for another $275 shipped. Scope will be a 2.5-8x32 Leupold ($460) with as many rings as I can fit on it. LOL It will not be cheap by any standard... BTW, This is my "getting a 3rd divorce and selling my house" present for myself.

Will this gun raise my OTPG status to Gold member...??? LOL

Ok I am done foolin around now. Got me an OTT Encore with brake and fluted in SSS coming soon. Found a heck of a deal used. Comes with a stratton base and custom GA Jim grip and forend in lam grey. This otta make them VT deer nervous come next fall. LOL Just need to pick up a Leupy 2.5-8x32 scope and about 4 rings to hold it. Here is the bbl and what she will look like when I am done will it. The scope will be slightly different is all.

Well team I am out. Our last deer season closed last Sunday and I saw nothing. I hope the 5 points I brought to the table helps. Good luck to those still out there!

WOW! Super deer man Congrats! Go Team!

Finally got all the pieces together for my "custom" Encore 7mm Rem Mag handgun. Had everything but the bbl for the longest time but as everyone else says who has used OTT as a gun smith, its worth the wait. Sorry no pics yet, Wife took the digital camera as well as the computer when we split up. Some stats: Encore blued frame with silver hammer, 13 oz trigger job springs and stoning, 19.5" 7mm Rem mag heavy tapper bbl with OTT sharks gill brake all in matte black, Burris 3-12x32 ballistic plex scope also in black matte, Leupold dual dovetail rings and base, gray lam boyds rifle forend and Ga Jim TR grip. 6 shots with Federal 150g NP factory ammo had me a 1.5" group at 100 yards. I know it can do better but I stopped there since it was currently bow season and for me that grouping was pretty darn good for hunting whitetails in VT come this Nov. (JMO) Hopefully I can get some pics up soon.

This is my 3rd year using them and I love them and their preformance.. 2 years ago. My brothers buck went less then 30 yards. He hit the very rear edge of both shoulder blades and got full pass threw and the head was not damaged but on blade did bend a tad. Still usable but since they are super easy to replace he did so. I hit a doe this year in the rain at 8 yards and had a blood trail literally 6" wide. Due to being stupid, I kept pushing this deer because I was worried the rain would wash the trail away. Well it finally did and I ended up pushing the deer into the swamp and never found her but the broad head went threw her and sunk 8" into the ground. I washed it off and did not even need to touch up the blades. Nothing bend or nicked. (I did in fact touch them up for that razor sharp since they encounter dirt but I really did not need to) A second doe I hit this year. This time at 35 yards, hit the center of ribs high and she spun on the shot so it exitted mid belly low, big holes but the exit plugged with stomack matter causing little blood. Found her 50 yards from the shot. Broadhead in perfect shape after being about 5" into ground. well one blade was nicked but not bent. I find them to fly exactly like my FPs but now-a-days it seems like everybody says that right. LOL Naturally why wouldn't they or they would be using something else if it didn't. IMHO great mech head. I will continue to use them.

Doe for team 2 Vtbowman -
Hey guys just checking in. I got us 5 more points the other evening. Doe, 116# FD-ed. Finally made the $1000 bow set up pay for itself. LOL Now if I can just figure out how to get pics from the RT pic post forum to this one. I am done until Nov 10th now. We only get 2 deer per year and I have a Buck tag, and a Doe tag for ML. Good Luck Team 2.

I thought I was aiming low at 2/3 down from the top of her back at the angle/height. I guess not low enough...
-
I just thought Id ask since the advent of this new ARC technology range finders and all. I's say from 1 to 10, 10 being hi strung alert, she was at about a 6 or 7.

I switched to Predators Fall Grey and few years ago and had a lot of confidence in it while in a tree stand. But now I have like 300% confidence in the stuff! I was 30 feet up in a poplar tree over looking a small food plot. Kinda out in the open on that side of the tree. I had deer in the plot but nothing I was interested in shooting. I all but danced around in this stand to see how much I could get away with. Nothing saw me. BTW it was dead calm, no wind or noise. About an hour later the deer were still eating and I decided I was going for broke. I climbed down 2 steps and started to move the stand from one side of the tree to the back side so I could have my left shoulder facing the plot. I clanked chain against metal, I sawed off 2 limbs, and not to mention climbed up and down and few times to get the dang thing level again. I was slow and cautious but none-the-less I moved the stand and got back in it with deer no less then 30-40 yards away or busting me. I am either a bowhunting ninja or this stuff really works!!!!

Like I said, I measure out yardage markers, orange survey tape set at 20, 30 and 40 in every lane. I literally measure this with a 100' tape from the base of the tree and practice this way too. My 30 yard pin is exactly 30 yards to the inch. LOL I was sitting dwon so I had no real bend at the waist, more of a slight bend and a lean combo. I had good form in other words. It may just be as simple as she jumped the string. But one will never know sonce I do not have hi speed video. LOL Thanks for your input.

I had a nice doe at exactly 30 yards out from my stand and the stand is at 31' up. I was sitting and she was prefect to my left, prefect broadside. I settled my 30 yard pin on the 2/3 mark down from her back and let loose. The arrow barely missed her high. May of shaved some hair it was that close. I have a ligthed nock so I saw exactly how far it missed by. I can only assume she jumped the string but like every missed shot, you start to question everything. I have never had one jump the string on me and always put yardage markers out in all my lanes/plots so to not have a yardage-fart guesstimation when the moment of truth comes. I then remember someone telling me a very long time ago that he used his 20 yard pin at 30 yards when that high up. What pin do you use? My bow stats are: Switchback XT set at 70#, 351g arrow total, I think its getting around 260 to 265 fps. I suppose a few good practice shots from that hieght would solve my worries but I dont have a practice stand that high. Maybe the peak of my house and shoot down into the front yard. (sloped) Thanks.

Thats good with me too. (N & L) Been out a ferw time and seeing lots of little ones. Been awful tempting to not shoot a young, tender, great tasting, skipper at 15 to 18 yards about every 30 minuts in my food plot. I did get a crack and a huge doe the first evening out. I got an arrow threw her but sadly never found her. Once again foiled by pouring rain, fog, and lack of day light. Looked for her for many hours while soaked and followed a good trail for about 100 yards and then it washed away before my eyes. I did widening circles from the last point of blood out to a roughly 300 to 350 yards. The trerrain is pretty rough and I was no longer on my property so I called it when I started to not know where I was anymore. I then had a buddie look again the next morning since I could not go, but to no avail. It stings loosing one... Second time in 3 years. Oh well hopefully a bigger one shows... Good Luck to the rest of Team 2.

I have no other names in mind. But it would be nice to have it be something that covers more then just bow hunting. Nocked and Loaded sounds good to me... My season starts this Sat and I believe I am ready... With my impending divorce and trying to sell the house my hunting prep and motivation is somewhat less then normal. Nevertheless, I am full steam ahead, got vacation scheduled, and deer on the cam. Go team.

I'll get team 2 rolling... Welcome to the contest! Lets start thinking of a team name as the good ones go fast! Good luck to all on team 2...

I switched to these 2 years ago. AWESOME preformance, hit exactly with my field points and I even tested them on a single sheet on paper to see if they would open. Everytime. I saw 1 blow threw 2 shoulders on my brothers buck last years and kept going. No damage to the head or blades but arrow broke. LOL Buck went 30 yards and piled. I feel they are very well made and tought all stainless steel construction. If you like mech heads you owe it to yourself to give these a try. Not to mention they look bad*** with that huge cut on contact tip. JMO
