Re: First thing you do? They can hear your calls 3x further away then you can here their gobbling. If you hear one sounding off to your calls then find a good spot and start calling him in. He will be closer then you think. People try to tell ya no closer then 100 yards, 200 yards etc. I find that if you try a push your luck to close the gap, he's gone... Just try to know your location if you can. It sucks to do what I said, hear a bird and drop right down to call and find a bird hang up on a fence line or brook. They dont seem to like going dwon hill much either which makes no dang sense but that my experience. They are hot to trot but are fussy about going to that sweet sounding hen. By nature the hens are suppose to go to them so they dont work all that hard if they dont have to. Good Luck

Re: Fletching question [ QUOTE ] Actually according to Carolina Archery Installation Instructions the C- Feather or Vane can be installed either in the UP or OUT postion (right or left),, NEVER in the down position so to clear the mounting bar... http://www.carolinaarcheryprod.com/rests.original.html [/ QUOTE ] I was about to post this same info but Luke beat me to it. Down=Bad. LOL

Re: Wow!!! thought it would be more expensive.... Opps sorry. Did not mean to give everyone a heart attack. So your saying the $6000 I spent was to much...??? Man they saw me coming....

Re: opinoin on camoflauge I became a big fan of Predator camo. Fall Grey for hunting out of tree stands during Late October thru mid December. I like the open blocky pattern much better then the photo-realistic patterns. I had also gotten their Spring Green for turkey hunting which this stuff will make you disappear. I still own several RT amd MO pieces of camo too. Mix and match works best IMHO. Dont get locked into just one design or pattern.

Re: Wow!!! thought it would be more expensive.... $6000 for a new bow is about what I see just about everywhere. Yes some will be higher and some lower but that seems to be an industry norm lately for the new lines. JMO

Re: Here they are! Very nice bro. Good choice on colors.

Re: 100grain vs. 125grain On a side note. If you need to extra weight to spine your arrow correctly or simply like the larger cut diameters a 125g head gives over the 100g head then feel free. Your not gonna hurt you shooting/accuracy a bit IMHO...
-
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain I had switched from 100s to 125s a while ago and I thought I saw more drop then that off my set up. Especially out to 40 yards. But not 100% sure. Id have to check and see what mine does now. Been a long while. I have since gone back to 100s to get that little bit flatter shot. I feel that at the speeds and KE/MO my bow can produce, the additional 25g is not a huge plus factor for my hunting. Both blow threw deer so it boils down to how far into the ground I want my arrow to go after pass threw. LOL

Re: TEAM #25: Strutbuster I think I am going out to hang my trail cam, set up a ground blind over a small food plot and just take a walk-about. I hope to see sign in my limited spots I can hunt them...

Need Help finding the right scope bases
VTbowman replied to Huntr104's topic in Rifles & Accessories
Re: Need Help finding the right scope bases Try www.midwayusa.com, they have just about everything under the sun for shooting. I would look for you but would need more info on the exact rings you have. Leupold makes many styles. -
Re: 3/25 Nothern Dutchess R&G 3-D..w/pics Again some nice pics. I am just now getting froggy to shoot and making up some new sticks this week. The snow is a lot deeper in my neck of the woods still. Still have a 3'+ drift right where I stand to shoot my backyard range. LOL

Re: cannot help but wonder I think the same way when I hear shots out of season but then again some folks just shoot to shoot. Or sight in at odd times of the year. Snakes, small critters, etc. 1000 reasons why you heard shots. Being close to a hunting season would make me suspicious too. I know in my area there are some folks who believe hunting season begins the evening before the opener.

Re: Who uses the Gobbler Guillotines? I am not 100% sure but I assume you can replace the blades if need be. I have not looked into them that closely. If not then I would not buy them.
-
Re: Sight Pin Phiberoptic Razor blade. Be carefull melting them. They go from very firm to liquid quick. LOL Its not like they soften 1st. Also beware that some fiber is not meant to bend at extreme angles. It could snap on you. Good Luck.

Re: Swampys wrapped arrows I was gonna say all 3 white but your done now. I am sure they look awesome. Those wraps are stunning!

Re: Who\'s using there???? I plan to try on my 2nd bird. I have been skunked the last 2 seasons so my 870 will go at 1st. I assume your using a Gobbler Guillotine... ??? LOL I will be using my deer hunting BHs so center mass shots of me.

Re: What is a good FOC %? A good range for compunds is 8% to around 15% so your ok. Like Leo said FOC and spine rating is related hand and hand but using carbon arrows with such a wide spine rating makes it much easier to play with length and tip weight to achieve faster flight. Not that its best to do that but I am just making a pont that its not unsafe to do so. The shorter they are the stiffer they will become but since a compound has true center shot its not that much of an issue. For traditional bow, who require flex (archers paradox) to clear the riser and then restabilize beyond the bow, spine a major issue. This is also why you will see some trad arrow sporting 200g to 300g tips and shooting logs. LOL

Re: Fletchers+Arrow builders-Lets see those colors! Nice everyone. Lets keeps this rolling. Its nice to have pics of different color combos and the like to help decide what looks good when your looking to do a new set. I should be starting my dozen this Monday. Been working night shift all weekend long. (Booo)

Re: Arrow Advice Please Aluminium arrows would work fine but are not better for your bow or better then carbons. They have tons of different sizes and weights and its plain easier for a pro shop to determine spine and lenght as they have been around for many years and the charts are proven. However the downside to Alum arrows is once they bend they stay bent and IMO are not cost effective. Not durable. I would suggest the GoldTip XT3355 and the blazer vanes, wrap if you want or not and a 75 to 100 grain tip. There is no set law saying you have to have arrows cut exactly 1/2" to 1" past your rest so you could shoot slightly long arrows if need be depending on what tip weight you want. Peopel who do this are merely trying to reduce as much arrow weight to achieve faster flight. Thanks to the carbon arrows wide spine range they can get away withit safely. Lenght of your arrow will change spine and the shorter they are the stiffer they become. For compounds with true center shot this is not really an issue as it does not require flex to fly straight. For traditional bows its major. The good thing about carbons is there are very forgiving when it comes to spine range per bow. Alums can not and is why they sport so many differnt sizes. Do not be scared away from using a wrap either as they do not effect flight hardly at all. Yes obviously they add weight to the back of the arrow but tip weights are high enough to cancel out any additon by a little sticker. Especially if your going with the lighter Blazers. As for FOC (forward of center) its not a huge deal either unless its very low. The closer to having an arrow perfectly balanced, with both front and back being the same, the more unstable it becomes. Think if it like throwing a rock with a string tied to it. The heavy front end will pull the rest straight behind it. 5% would be about as low as I would risk. I have had arrow up to 40%+ shooting trad bows to achieve a good spine and proper flex with real heavy tips, but a good range for compounds is 8% to around 15%. Good Luck.

Re: How should I set my pins? [ QUOTE ] If I go 20/30/40, the 20 yard pin will be good from like 5 - 20 yards right? [/ QUOTE ] This basically holds true depending on your arrow weight, speed and your ability. If you do have a different POI at less then 20 using a 20 yard pins its very small. Still very lethal. BTW that is how I set mine up...

Re: Who uses the Gobbler Guillotines? [ QUOTE ] No more then 20 yard ar you can epect some random behavor from the head ... [/ QUOTE ] Thats good info. I would not of known this. I hear ya on the price but man they have a cool factor that makes them "almost" worth it anyways. LOL Although probably not the best Pics afterwards, for say a contest or something. LOL Still I may try them out if it tickles my fancy and I see a decent price.
