Since I have started a new job I am not in here very much. I got one on May 6th and posted the same day. I have checked the scores post to see how my team has been doing just today and had seen only one of the four we have shot updated. Is 'Strut' out hunting still or just out of pocket? LOL Just checking...

I shot my 1st Tom on May 6th and had my hunting buddie take the pics since he has a much better camera. Just trying to get pics for the RT contest. (Its my 3rd turkey, just 1st decent Tom.) Then a week or so later I start getting all these hate emails about why I did not tell anyone I was getting my picture in the local paper! Huh???? , I said. I had no idea it was even in there... LOL My buddie is pretty connected locally with a few state biologists and the like had emailed a pic to one of them. Well long story short, most of Vermont now knows I shot a nice Tom. LOL I plan to get a fan/beard mount done, and now it seems, a small framed pic of me in the paper for the game room. Thanks Bob D for the great pics and submitting it.

Yeah when I 1st went to my bird I did not see the beard and saw the absence of spurs so I thought I had shot one of the 2 jakes that were with him. Once I flipped him over and saw the beard I was a tad confused but it is what it is. Id rather have a double beard then 2" spurs. LOL Thanks all. I hope to get back out there Saturday morning to see if I can call up another.

Thats about 1000x better then when you and I hunted up there a couple years ago Luke. LOL I am sure you will see a bird or two to wack. Thanks Rhino. Its not an easy area with so few birds. I feel quite lucky.

Went out last Sunday morning for a quick turkey hunt. Really not expecting to much from our area as the birds are just not up here very thick in NW Vermont yet. They just opened the season up here the last few years. I got out late, around 8:30, and took a walk up the back fence line calling every 200 yards or so with absolutely nothing sounding off to my calls. I was gonna just bag it if I did not raise anything but decided to walk up to check out the trees the forester marked for cutting. Calling every so often on my way up to the top of the ridge. As I was getting ready to go back down over the "rim" and I hear a faint gobble way off on the back property. I yelp and he answers. I walk back up about 50 yards to start looking for a tree but can't find one that is wide enough nor not in full sun shine. I finally pick the "best" one (a small double trunk) and set out a hen decoy about 12 yards away. I start clucking and purring only and he cuts me off. He is comng fast. Then I hear another right behind me coming in as well. I called in 2 jakes and a Tom. Great. Now I have to deal with 3 sets of eyes and I have zero cover around me. They skirt around me at about 40 yards but kept an eye on the deek (or me I could not tell). Lucky for me the wind was moving it slightly and making it turn the same direction they were circling. They go behind a small knoll and all I can see is the top 1/2 the their necks and their heads. They mingle around over there for about 10 minutes switching spots now anbd again and I ended up loosing which one was the Tom. Feeling like the whole time at least one of them was watching me as the other 2 were walking around. I swear they were trying to get me to move. Meanwhile, I dropped my striker beside my leg but could not "feel" it and I can not move to look for it. I reach for another, pull it free and give a few soft purrs to draw them back. The Tom responds and wanders back around the front of the knoll but keeping behind brush, sappling and now my neighbors freaking maple suger lines. I pick a spot and decide if he walks threw it it go time. He does and I dropped the hammer on him at about 30+ yards. 19 lbs with a double beard (7.5" and 7.75") but no spurs at all. Ok maybe at 1/8" each. Weird. http://www.hunt101.com/img/493443.JPG

The 870 roars and VTbowman scores! Hey team I bagged one Sunday. 19# Tom, double beard (7.5, 7.75) but no spurs to talk about. Weird. 1/8" at best on both. Oh well. it was fun and I still have a tag left. Go team.

best "after shot" reaction on a video?
VTbowman replied to Michiganbowhunter_SQ2's topic in Bowhunting
You guys are way to hard on ole Stan Potts. I love his reactions. He seems to be pretty shaken with nerves and always needs that large "gimme a minute" deep breathe to calm down enough to speak. LOL I dont like the mock post shot taping. No excitement in them. You can not fake the adrenaline rush, nerves, shaking, and pure excitement of shooting a nice animal 15 to 30 minutes after you really shot it. IMO You see tons of that on todays shows now-a-days... -
You did not mention which biscut you have... The older all black or the B2 with brown and black? If the B2 then the cockvane orients up vertically as the black whiskers are there solely to hold the weight of the arrow, the brown is for the vanes to pass threw. I know you said you had it correctly, but did not say how. It could of been wrong or slightly off. The newer B2 is very gental on just about any vane but Life has it right with the 3 he listed. I too use the Blazers with no ill effect what-so-ever. Regluing and seperated vane is ok too. Like he said make sure you place a drop at the front and back of each to strengthen it there.

Thanks all. I do not start for another 3 weeks (May 21st) so I will be here for most of our turkey season. After that it will be slim... maybe once per week vs all night long all week long. LOL
-
Opps did not mean to post it yet. LOL Kinda just cuts off dont it..?? I plan to check in at least once per week from home but dial up really irks me so I wont be on long. Nor will I be doing many pics... Thanks...

Just was offered a new job with long term security. The job I am working now is contract work and its gonna be done in the next year. VT is pretty depressed so I thought I better look now. I hate umemployment. LOL I did not expect my job search to be only 5 hours long. Still will be working 12 hour shifts, nights, but I will be "working" now not surfing the net, playing video games, or watching movies. So this mean I wont be n the forums near as much as before. Maybe a lot less...

I have 10 or 11 I think. I dont normally keep them as I always seem to be low on arrows when it happens. LOL 3 were with my recurve. I have not had one in a long while. I still shoot for groups and not spots even thoough it pricey to get a robin hood. JMO.

Sounds like you had your peep creep up some by string stretch. Lighter will be faster but thats a huge jump. Sounds more like something is a tad out of tune. If your getting bullet holes then most likely its not your nock point or rest. Do the close your eye and draw test on your peep.
-
This is caused by very slight out of tune rest, nock point, and arrow spine all in one. I had this same issue with the same heads many years ago. I could just not get fixed blade Muzzys to fly with my field tips. Back then I had no idea and there were no forums for me to ask. the ppro shops "played" around with my set up more time then I care to count. I took the easy way out and switched to mech like Swampy suggested. I have shot them ever since and they hit spot on with my field points everytime. Its no "fix" to whats out of tune but for me it was since I do not compete with this bow and arrow set up at all. I could care less what style broadhead I had, fixed or mech, as long as it killed deer I was happy. Every mech head I have tried has done so. Maybe some of the target guys who also hunt can hook you up with this...

I think this is what got me Ken. I tried to heat the field tip and alum insert over a candle while still holding it with my fingers. I felt that if it were not to hot for my finger then it would be ok for the carbon. I melted, glued, and seated several this way but it was right around the temp where hot melt like to reharden. LOL I think I am just going back to using my Bohning Fletch-tite Plat. like before. Thanks
-
Thats what I was gonna go to (rechamber) if my 7 Rem Mag bbl did not check out. 7 STW handgun would be awesome!
-
Well I tried it and it must be beyond me but I aint getting it to stick well. Lost 4 inserts inside my turkey target this past weekend. What do you guys use on your carbons for insert glue? I had always just used whatever fletching glue I had with fair results. Maybe lost one insert per year. I may go back to that. LOL
-
Hmmm. This must be my problem then.... Thanks for cluing me in. LOL

I bought one with my x-mas bonus last January and now have several games. Gears of War, Oblivion, Madden 07, and Lost Planet. I also picked up a few regular X-box games since this is my 1st "X-box" coming from the PS2. Halo 1+2, Fable, KOTOR 1+2, and another Star Wars game, I forget the title. I do not play Live at all. I prefer the "in the living room" experience with a 2nd player, over online gaming.

Its not hunting if your shooting at domesticated animals. Or "wild" animals that have been tamed enough to handle them by hand. Aren't those called pets...???? Sickening...
-
I should be good for a hat....

Well I know many 45# recurves and long bows have killed deer up to, and beyond, 20 yards. I am sure a well placed shot off your compound will do the same. Given you have the right arrow and the bows is tuned well. You will be surprized how easily your bow and accuracy will come into play after even a short time of practice. Dont sell youyrself short. I dont shoot over 30 yards on game myself but practice well beyond it. What is your equipment? Rest, sight, arrow stats, etc...????

Very easy to put on. A few ways but the old mouse pad and roll on method is widely used. There are a few guys over on Archery Talk who sell custom wraps very cheap. I just got a set of around $8 per dozen. Some are a bit cheaper some are more. I dont fletch an arrow now without some sort of wrap. I like reflective wraps for ease of finding after dark. JMO
