4. thanks guys... it was funny at the time too. I only wish I could have seen my fall from Samara's eyes as she loves telling the story.
5. I had one of my best turkey hunts on Saturday with my 12 year old stepdaughter Samara. After sitting in our blind for an hour or so without any action, we decided to go after them. I had an idea where they were based on early gobbles off the roost. As soon as we got to the old overgrown cow pasture I let out a few calls… instant gobbles, at least 3 birds, 2 were close. We set up in an over grown fence row, burying ourselves in the tall grass and briars. These birds sounded hot, so I expected them to come in pretty quick. I guess they had other plans because for the next hour and a half they stayed out of sight down in small valley that runs through the pasture. They easily gobbled over 100 times at any sound… my calls, crows, geese. Finally, after a few soft purrs and clucks, one showed himself. He walked up the edge where the pasture meets the corn field and stopped at 40 yards, just short of my shooting hole. I guess he wasn’t done gobbling, as he stood behind the brush for another 20 minutes gobbling. As he was walking away, he stepped in my lane and I let him have it. As I do with every bird I sprung to my feet to run over to him, only my legs were not there, completely numb from the long sit. I tumbled off to my left and hit the ground. After getting the feeling back we made it over to our first bird together… 2 year old, 9” beard, ¾” spurs. It was easily the longest I’ve ever had to work a bird. Samara was a trooper getting up several mornings at 5am. I passed on a couple easy birds the weekend prior just because she couldn’t make it out those days. I hope she’ll be the shooter someday, but she hasn’t shown interest in shooting guns. It’s always fun to have her along none the less.

Finally Morels

It's been a slow start this year around here but I haven't really had time to look. the woods looks ready so with the rain and warm temp today, they should be up. I'm hoping to get out for a bit tonight.
11. I like the Motorola Droid MAXX that I currently have simply because it has the best battery life of any smartphone. I charge it overnight and rarely have to plug it until bedtime, usually plenty of power left to go longer. My wife has the galaxy s3 and always has to carry a charger... the S5s look like they have a little better battery though.
12. good stuff... congrats on a dandy!
13. Nicely done! congrats to you both!
14. I use cabelas 2k gram for cold season and muck muckmasters for early. Both have been good boots.
15. Found a good one last night but the tree rats found it first.
16. Found 4 halves yesterday including a decent 5 point shed. I'm hoping to find his other side.
17. I've heard about $150 for license and about $100 for a deer permit... so approximately $100 more than what NR were paying for 1 deer tag. Still reasonable compared to other big buck states in the midwest.
18. I pulled the glass out of windows (free) and made my own frames out of treated wood... they hinge inward and up, then hook onto a bungy strap screwed in the side. Only problem is the window pretty much has to be open for the shot but they are quiet. My buddy has used the sliding plexiglass and it works well too... his slide up by attaching a string to the upper corners, then up through a loop which acts as a pulley. All you do is pull down on the string and attach to a hook.
