1. I got a set as a gift but have yet to try them... I've had limited success rattling around here and the black rack just doesn't sound right to me. I might try them next season if I feel like carrying more stuff into the woods I don't need..
2. I would jump on that deal if you need it... over $4 per gallon here and most won't deliver until your tank is less than 20% and 150 gallons max delivery. They are claiming farmers used excessive amounts drying out there corn this year and of course colder than normal temps.
3. I have a cc permit but don't carry too often... I carry mostly in my truck while on longer road trips.
4. nice buck... congrats to your buddy!
5. very nice buck! congrats and God Bless!
6. I was going to say this... plus another one coming on Friday!
7. those were some great times with great people. I look at my buck on the wall often and it makes my want to head out west again... hopefully soon.
8. thanks again! I'm pretty stoked about him... but already scouting for next year!
9. Thanks guys! Yes wtnhunt... Last year this buck was most active, or at least seen, after the rut when a cold front would come through, and always in the same field. I was banking on getting an opportunity at him based on last years late season behavior... his gross green score is 168.
10. I shot this buck last night during Ohio's week long gun law season. We had a cold front come through Thursday evening which got the big boys back out on their feet. I watched this guy from 400 yards away walk within range of one of my other stands. With the snow still flying Friday, I set up a natural ground blind not far from the stand. I opted to sit on ground to take advantage of using snow camos... deer always seem to look right through them. I also figured it would be warmer..lol Around 4:30 several does came out of the woods and crossed to my side of the field and feed around me at 10 yards. They all seemed to look back at the woods all at once when the buck started crossing toward them. They scurried north along the fence and I got the cross hairs on the buck. I waited for him to hit my shooting lane and let him have it... about 50 yard perfect shot. He ran off and piled up about 250 yards away... further than I would have expected. It was tough tracking with the snow covering blood quick but mostly followed his prints. He has 14 points and is my biggest buck. He was also the number one buck my buddy and I were after this year. I'm hoping to have him officially green scored tonight.
11. Hunted in it a couple weeks ago with some of gusts that had to reach 40 mph. It was probably the most active deer movement night I've had this year. problem was I couldn't let go of the branch long enough to shoot even with a harness on.lol I got down and finish my hunt on the ground. A small tornado/funnel ended up coming through later that night a few miles north of the property.
12. Seeing bucks during mid day more than the morning or evening around here.
13. have seen numerous fawns without their mothers lately and does by themselves as well. Yesterday morning, a large buck was bedded in a middle of a cut bean field with a doe standing nearby. The rut has most definitely started around here.
14. It was and will be difficult to pass up again... but there are two bucks running around much larger. With the sheds and pics from last year we have of one buck, he should score 180+ this year. Hopefully he'll show himself again soon.
15. Scrapes are popping up everywhere... had a 140+ 10 point at 15 yards yesterday morning but am holding off for something bigger.
16. I've only seen small bucks dogging does so far... There have been a couple dandy bucks taken recently in the area, so there are some big boys moving.
17. People are still hoarding it around here it seems... closest place I've found any at a reasonable price is a small sporting goods store a little over an hour away.
18. looks like a cool down here tonight... hoping that means I won't have to mow again this year.
19. Heard one shot Saturday and didn't see many people out, but the warm weather probably didn't help. I spent most of the day moving stands and scouting. I hunted a little yesterday and took a doe last night, only shot I heard all day. The meat processor I take mine to took 16 in over the weekend.
20. I'll be out... hoping to drop a couple does this weekend. I'm sure the 200 inch buck will step out as well and I won't be able to do anything about it.
