  1. The balance improvement is the primary reason. Manufacturers can't predict what accessories you'll put on and that will effect the balance. The stabilizer will help correct that. Even with a drop-away style rest, you still have to be concerned with torque. The string still travels in the same plane so torque will effect your left to right accuracy even with a drop away rest. Trust me, you will have some torque even if you shoot open handed. Bow mounted quivers are notorious for adding torque. That's why I don't use them anymore. A stabilizer will help dampen the torque that occurs when you shoot.
  2. Great hunt and a very well put together video. Very nice!
  3. The Safari is with Infinito and will be at the exclusively bowhunting only S'dudla camp. Gerhard will be my PH. My brother is joining me to photograph and video the hunt. I'm really looking forward to this trip. Here are the links to the websites. Infinito and S'dudla are serious operations. Gerhard knows his stuff too. http://www.infinito-safaris.com/Home.html http://www.sdudlasafaris.co.za/
  4. Saw the woodies again this morning they are half grown already!
  5. Bring your own bow line and safety harness. Don't expect the guide to supply those items. If he says he will supply them bring your own anyway so you can be certain of the condition of what you will be using. A bug tamer jacket is really nice to have in the spring in Canada. You can't bring batteries in carry on item. So if you are bringing spares (which most people do) put them in your checked baggage.
  6. Thanks Buckee! I'm still thanking God I won this trip!
  7. Tuesday morning I discover my wife's work camera will no longer power up and turn on. It's $130 to get it fixed. She needs a camera for her job and I don't want to lend her mine while I'm in Africa. I've heard cow's milk sometimes causes the bloat/diarrhea issue in small infant mammals. Supposedly goats milk is safer. Maybe Dogdoc can comment on this.

    Table Saw

This is one of a set of two that I made. Good luck on your project.

    Table Saw

You can do an awful lot with a biscuit joiner, a skill saw that has a quality blade and the right fence jigs. If you're building cabinetry you can't have to many clamps
  10. Looks like a really nice place to hunt.
  11. I used Elaine Porteous with African Odyssey out of Miami Fl. http://www.traveltribe.com/people/African-Odyssey/25318 She saved me about $600 so now I don't have to fly directly out of Atlanta and can take the flight from Savannah to Atlanta. She is the same agent I booked with the first time. She is good. I remember it's a 16-17 hr flight. I'll have sleeping pills
  12. This trip will not be without benefitting those on this side of the Atlantic. $2000 to Delta Airlines for a plane ticket. $200+ on ebay purchases for stuff I'm taking with me. I've got a Doctors appointment next month to insure I'm up to date on immunizations, a full physical and get prescribed travel medications (don't know what that's gonna cost yet). So I'll be helping a Doctor and his staff, a pharmaceutical company and pharmacy. All of this of course is going on my credit card to help one of our struggling banking institutions. It's gonna take a while to pay for this "Free" trip but it will be worth it. I'm still thanking God I can actually go!
  13. Really good shot on a nice ram!
  14. I actually own a rifle I would love to take to Africa but there are no rifles allowed on the lands I will be hunting. I had to lay down the bow for a couple years for various reasons. In spite of being rusty now, I will be practiced up enough for this trip.
  15. My primary goal animals are a Nyala and a bushbuck. A warthog and impala is included in the trip. I really want to get an eland too and that's a lot of money to save up between now and then. I'm gonna try though. Might have to beg and borrow. This is a bowhunt Safari only. I was told a couple more bowhunters could join me at a substantially reduced daily fee rate. Nothing changes for me whether someone comes with me or not. I'm not offering this for my own personal benefit. Send me a PM if you are seriously considering going back. This is a very good deal.
  16. Got my plane ticket to Johannesburg RSA booked and hunt dates finalley set yesterday. I will be leaving Aug 19th and returning the 28th. I'm still dizzy with excitement after winning this bowhunting Safari from a hunt drawing I entered! I'm major league pumped!
  17. You will also want to update the driver on the wireless card.
  18. If the new laptop has Vista or Windows 7 as the operating system updating the firmware in you router might help. I had the same issue with my wife's laptop until I updated the firmware in the router.
  19. Thanks Rangerclay, too bad you are not coming. To anyone interested, I should have the exact dates nailed down with the travel agent in a couple days. Anyone who decides to tag along can get tacked onto the same record and take advantage of the discount she comes up with or they can try and find a cheaper ticket on their own. Either way, we will have to coordinate so the outfitter can pick us up in Johannesburg at the same time. Trust me, that's easier to leave in the hands of the agent. We won't be bringing any firearms so clearing through customs in South Africa will be much faster. The hunt is in a Malaria free zone so those meds aren't required. This is near where I went the first time and the area is known for big Kudu! It's unlikely I'll get a bigger one but it is possible. My primary goal is to get a nice Nyala and Bushbuck.
  20. I entered a drawing and I got the trip! I'm super excited! The trip will be this August. Anyone who wants to join me will have a deeply discounted trip. The flight over there will be about $2000. You need a passport. The daily fees will be quite good and then it depends on what animals you take. This is a bowhunting safari on bowhunting only property. Please only send me a PM if you are seriously interested in tagging along. I'm going whether I have company traveling with me or not. I'll be dropped off at the airport an picked up. You better believe I'm thanking the Lord right now for this opportunity.
  21. Honestly, I would just fill it with dry sand and balled up aluminum foil until it balanced right. It will take some experimentation to get it right. I would start by packing the base screwed into the bow with aluminum foil. Fill with sand and check the balance. If it's too nose heavy dump the sand pack in more foil and try again. A little bit of air around the sand is good for dampening. The sand needs to be able to move some and not tightly packed. That way the grains can bleed off some of the shock energy bouncing around in there. Hope that helps.
  22. Wow! That's gonna be a big poll! Might have to break it up and have some tie breaker polls. Max number of items per poll is 10.
