With the right choke in a Browning you can squeeze the Win HVs much tighter. Most guns top out with a peak performance on these loads with a 665. The Brownings can go even tighter. BPSs are notorious for patterning high. Fiber optic sights or a scope make a BIG difference. What you're getting right now sounds plenty good enough but I feel pretty certain that gun is capable of even better.

Looks good! Just remember to take the sling off when you set up. Not because it's not camo but because a swinging sling will get you busted every single time. Birds catch any movement that's out of place. Even a camo one will spook them. You don't need the sling on there to shoot a bird it's just for carrying the gun. I learned the hard way and missed out on a bird over that one. Since then it has been a habit just as serious as laying out my calls in the ready position and checking my swing area. I know more than one turkey hunter who has had to learn that lesson the hard way. Trust me on this and save yourself some heartache.

I wouldn't go shorter than 24 inch. 26 inch is probably the most flexible. 30 inchers pattern a larger variety of stuff very well but are tough to hunt with. Yes you can get tight patterns out of stubby guns but in my experience they aren't nearly as forgiving as the longer barrels. It takes some serious load and choke experimentation to accomplish. A 26inch barrel with an extended choke is what I'd recommend.

What choke size? You can squeeze the fool out of Winchester HVs. They like it.

The NWTF definitely can take some credit for the restoration/improvement of turkey populations and habitat in this country. They are a hunting organization. No anti-hunting organization can claim to be responsible for what the NWTF has done. Yep we need them.

I'm glad to hear from you Norm and the news about your mother. Rest assured you're still in my wife and my prayers.

I'd say about 70% of the Carbons that fail on me during practice crack right there by the nock. As soon as I see that crack that arrow is permanently retired. Jimpic has it right, leave a 1/4" of visible shaft in front of the nock. The wrap covering the crack will keep the nock from feeling loose but if the crack is there you won't see it. Don't be fooled, the arrow is severely weakened if it is cracked the wrap doesn't "Fix it". This is definitely a case of what you don't know possibly hurting you.

No joke. This is a major WHAT!!!! Rob Keck Resigns from NWTF A shining example of how badly an ignorant board of directors can mess something up! Folks, Rob was the NWTF, there is little doubt of that. Yes, the NWTF will survive but it's got a black eye and a fat lip right now. There had better have been a good reason for this.

You know what? That's seriously awesome!

Prayers Sent!!! Now that report made me madder than all get out! They simply don't have an excuse for that, beat them up with it!!! Wear them out over that mistake, they'll do better.

Since you've been taking all those female hormone pills does that mean you only just turned "29" this year? Have a great one buddy!

The factory paint jobs on most commercial decoys are pretty cartoonish. So I'm constantly repainting. That being said the Delta Ultimate Hot Hen is probably their best decoy. The Delta collapsible decoys are tough and can take some abuse.

Sounds to me like you need to stick with Standard Definition. The High Definition stuff is surely better but the expense won't stop at just the camera. You also need HD compatible editing software, a computer with a VERY large hard drive capacity, an HD DVD burner and player. It takes a high horsepower computer to edit HD video and even then expect it to take a long time even to do short clips. For hobbyist outdoor video making look at Canon's Powershot S2 IS,S3 IS and S5 IS. With a 2gb SD card you can record 28 minutes of video at DVD quality. Getting it into the computer afterwards is simple as putting the card in your computers card reader. The cameras are light and easy to carry. SD memory is cheap and practically infinitely reusable (easy to carry several cards). The sound is stereo and digitally wind filtered. The work with standard easy to find AA batteries and Lithiums last an incredibly long time in them. No more recharger stress! And because these cameras are primarily stills cameras, they of course take great still shots. I feel like a broken record recommending these cameras to outdoorsmen who want a decent camera to take in the field. I don't care. I bought mine thinking eventually I'll get a "real" video camera. I can absolutely say that this camera's video function is NOT a joke like it is on practically every other dual use camera I have ever handled. In fact I still haven't got the "real" video camera because the video function on these Canon's is so hard to beat. Here's a frame capture from a Canon Video

Actually Gators love those snagless floating frogs. Around here if you toss one of those things in the weeds enough eventually a gator is gonna steal one. They hide real good in that stuff and sometimes you think you got King Daddy Bucketmouth. That is until they come up for air. On good bass tackle you can often whip one that's under six foot long and release him unharmed. They get tired quickly at that size and isn't the epic battle you might imagine. When they get longer than that they really put on the muscle. Kiss froggy good-bye. Down here you never know for sure what's gonna smack that frog back in the weeds. Could be a bass, gar, grinnel, snake, bullfrog or alligator. Makes it interesting Nice gator pictures. I'm glad they are not as mean as africa's crocodiles. Or I probably wouldn't fish or hunt around here anymore. This area of the country is pretty polluted with them.

Turkey calling 101 version II chapters 1, 2 ,&3
Leo replied to lungbuster12point06's topic in Photography & Video
You did real good! Calling is something that's most intimidating to new turkey hunters. You covered it well. I want to emphasize your point about not answering a roosted gobbler. If he answers you, fine, time to shut up. If you answer him, he'll expect you to come and follow. Newbies resist the temptation, I guarantee he is telling you right! What you practically never see in videos nowadays is how to scout for turkeys. There really isn't a product to sell with this knowledge so I guess that's why. But identifying key feeding areas, crossings and strut zones are especially crucial to scoring after the roost success. Just an idea. I've got some decent turkey footage myself, it's not easy to get. Good luck to you. -
For SCI AROUND the Spirals plus the bases. Here is the form for Blackbucks http://www.scifirstforhunters.org/docs/content/173/Method02c.pdf Minimum score is 54. Yours will make that easy.

Extremely unlikely and yes go out and buy the turkey choke. But BE WARNED! not all turkey chokes are created equal. You can experiment with chokes and shells and try and find the best. Or simply call these guys and get their recommendation for your gun. http://gobblerguns.com/ It will save you some heartache and money.

Nice bird Rhino! I can't bring myself to pass on a two year old. At least I haven't been able to yet. I know from deer hunting sometimes that's what you gotta do to get the big boys. So I do admire your resolve to do so. Especially, when you see a larger specimen just out of range. But something about any longbeard (and two year olds got em) says BANG! to me. In my experience the longest bearded birds aren't always the biggest or oldest. My oldest bird had 1 3/8" spurs but his beard was only 9 1/2". My longest beard bird ever had a 10 3/4" beard and 1" spurs was also the lightest gobbler I've ever taken. He weighed a measly 14lbs! Talk about skinny!!! The first turkey I killed, a jake, weighed 16 1/2lbs. So my personal rule now is if the beard is swinging and he's in range, then shoot! Opportunities vanish quicker than careful decisions can be made. If he's obviously at least a two year old then shoot. He may end up being substantially better. The good Lord sent him in range for a reason.

That's the answer. If your water is filtered it isn't distilled but the less impurities in it the more likely it will spike. Impurities interfere with the freezing temperature and the expansion of ice. Bottom line, your water is pretty clean if this is happening.
-
That's a REALLY REALLY good Blackbuck! Biggest I've seen anyone get in a long time. Maybe you don't care about score but I'm thinking that one would score very well SCI. Not all the real good ones are black like that either. You are doubly fortunate. Absolutely classic spiral and color. Well done!

Exactly! Pre-employment drug tests don't completely prevent drug users from getting jobs. They still get employed. The truth is the majority of drug users in this country are employed.
-
Let me pose these unsettling questions. What employer will hire someone who was kicked off Welfare for illegal drug use? What do you think these folks who can't get jobs or money for their habit are going to do?

Seriously, the point I was trying to make is $100 for an extra barrel is a heck of a good deal.

Poop is often just poop. It's a poor indicator of sex. Tracks are far better indicators. If from the base of the middle toe extends past George Washington's head on a dollar bill laying beside that imprint it's a gobbler Gobblers have much longer middle toes than hens do. Usually at least a 1/2" difference.
-
The 28" barrel by itself will cost you about $175 if purchased separately.
