Some are in hard horn, some are in velvet, year round for axis deer. Their each have their own individual antler cycle. They can be very good sized and bigger than most Texas deer. My Axis weighed 230lbs. The meat is absolutely the best. Axis go nocturnal just like whitetails when over pressured. You'll find out.

I killed my first 20years ago this spring. The turkey hunting in the Lowcountry of South Carolina is WORLD CLASS. Your time will come. Just a huge dose a patience and sit your butt still and shut up will really help. I figure it takes 18hrs of sitting still per bird down here, unless you get real lucky and take two at once. Any daylight hour is fair game. Throw your deer hunting notions away. Turkeys move ALL DAY LONG! Here's the reality almost no one believes. You can't make them do anything! But you can pretty much count on them repeating the same behavior day after day, if they are not spooked. That's why "run and gunners" never get a second chance to hunt with me, ever. They are IMHO just wasting time, and changing the birds patterns. Yes, you can call them, yes you can decoy them but those things are only secondary to actually patterning them in the first place. Good luck this spring! Start doing your homework now. I've already found six candidates.

If you are getting a rainy day gun to turkey hunt with, make sure you can get a decent turkey choke for it.

Sounds like you're fishing more on the Gulf side versus my Atlantic side to me. Maybe my wife will let be bug you on the way to visit my brother some time. It's up to you too, of course. Folks over here won't eat AJ's (amberjack). Seaworms creep them out. I say pick em out when you clean em. That's how I grew up eating them anyhow.

I'll agree with Andrea that some sharks are real sporty. Blacktips are awesome fast and jump like tarpon. Plus they are darn good on the grill I love to fish for Mahi's (Dorados, Dolphinfish). A big Bull Mahi has shoulders and let's you know it. Tunas are the toughest IMHO. They are just ridiculous divers. They go down, and down and down. Wahoo's win for speed and will strip your thumb bare if you are dumb enough to touch the spool on one of their runs. They are for certain one of my favorite to eat fish there is period. I've done plenty of freshwater fishing as well. Not bored with any of it. I like to fish! Sometimes I really miss my boat

The horn method isn't as accurate as many folks think. Randy has it right. You can only "try" to age by horns. Around here jawbone evidence might show your "1 1/2 yr old" to be older than your "2 1/2 yr old". Yep that means sometimes our 1 1/2 year olds can branch out like that. Heavy Shot doesn't work so great in a super full choke designed for lead. For turkeys, I honestly have a hard time getting away from #4 Winchester Supremes. Plated buffered lead for turkeys is still the way to go IMHO.

That's exactly why that manual magazine cut off switch on the Browning Gold is SO VERY COOL!! You can swap shells in a snap. For turkeys, I'm absolutely sold on the patterns and performance I get from 12ga 3 1/2" #4s.

After dipping, for WELL OVER 25 years, I quit about a month ago. I'm literally reading this with gauze packed in my lip on top of five stitches. They took a biopsy from me this morning. I'll know for sure if I'm clean in a week. My dentist had a fit. The oral surgeon was pretty encouraging. Either way it comes back, I'm done dipping, no more. Trust me, you don't want to wait for that wake up call.

I'd be amazed if the Icon ended up being more accurate than the T3. The T3 is a tough rifle to beat. I'm very fond of mine If you want to spend more money on a more accurate rifle, look at a Cooper Jackson hunter

Very nice bass!! Lake Falcon is an interesting body of water. It takes TRIPLE digit catches to win tournaments on that lake! (that means the winner weighs in totals over 100lbs) Holy cow! What a fishery.
