Re: Booked a hunting trip If you get a chance at a good Mouflon TAKE IT A good mouflon is one of the prettiest trophies there is IMO. I'd like to have one myself.

Re: Arrow FOC Just curious what's your draw weight with those shafts? A 125gr head will reduce your effective spine. If you're spined close right now, you may have to turn your draw weight down some to shoot the 125s right. Probably only a couple pounds but keep that in mind. Don't get me wrong I still think the 125s are a better choice. But long arrows are more sensitive to spine issues than short ones.

Re: Arrow FOC VT brings up a valid point. The numbers can lead you astray. So please let me make this clear. The 10% I am suggesting is for Modern Compounds shooting Carbon arrows only. I have personally experienced heavier aluminum arrows shooting just fine with lower FOCs. FOC is one of those numbers that can really confuse you because it's a percentage. IE. it's a "rule of thumb" a guide. It's not something that has a perfect value. But, the lighter the shaft the higher FOC needs to be.

Re: B&C record book.......I made it!!!! Very excellent trophy. Congratulations
-
Re: Arrow FOC Absolutely change to 125 gr heads. An FOC of 8% flys ok... with field points. With todays lighter carbon shafts I personally believe you need a much higher FOC with broadsheads (fixed or mechanical) IMO, you definately need at least 10%

Re: My Africa Safari That's a monster blesbok!! Very very nice.

Re: Guys\' Razors [ QUOTE ] if the man is using a mach 3 that would be your answer, them blades last forever, not like girls, venus or intuition razors or whatever ladies use [/ QUOTE ] That is no joke. The Mach 3s are seriously good.

Re: My Africa Safari Very nice animals. I didn't take any of those three when I was there. The variety there is simply astonishing. You can easily sit all day in a bow blind and not get bored. Eland look like a UPS truck on four legs All three of those animals make great trophies. That's a very nice nyala

Re: Africa Animals havested in S.A. and taxidermied in S.A. are subject to VAT tax by law. Is that $1600 including VAT and the taxidermy or just "crate and ship"? Those are nice animals, James. The zebra is a particularly sharp one. Here are some more of my picts. My Duiker. My Impala My Kudu

Re: Africa They will be mounted here. Actually a guy in Colorado is doing the work. Shipping on fully mounted trophies from Africa is horrendously expensive. You'll eat up anything you save on the job doing it there plus some. Shipping is charged by cube size NOT weight. Mounts take up LOTS OF SPACE. They have some absolutely outstanding taxidermists in South Africa (Lifeforms comes to mind) but the shipping is a deal killer. There are also, just like here, some "bubba" taxidermists over there. I've seen their work, it won't last . The photo thing was what I planned on doing originally. I got some great picts too. But sometimes, you just gotta have the mount, you can't help it.

Re: Outlook Express experts?? If you switch to Mozilla Thunderbird (it's free) you can configure it to automatically weed out spam. Google Mozilla. The first release of that email program was ho hum. Now it's a serious competitor with Outlook.

Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] Leo-----Small world. I also hunted in the limpopo province. I hunted with Koos Van Niekerk, he was PH for Lumbata Safaris. He has his own hunting lodge near Ellisras. It's called Timela. Did you do a tour of Kruger National Park while you were there? My next time over I plan on another tour of the park. The animals next time are wildebeest & maybe an eland. I got an oryx/gemsbuck at the White Sands Missile range in New Mexico. He was a pretty good bull 39" horn & 7" bases. My safari cost me $3000---for everything from the time I got off the plane till I boarded to come back to the USA. I'm going back---yes sir. CB [/ QUOTE ] I did not go to Kruger. I never got the chance. It's unlikely you'll beat your White Sands 39" bull gemsbok in South Africa. Maybe in Namibia. I took absolutely the biggest bull gemsbok I saw on my 10 day Safari. He was 35 1/2" with 7 1/2" bases. Some of the cows I saw were over 40" but cow horns are much slimmer. IMO, the heavy rings on the base of a bull's horns really add character. A 32" bull where I was is considered a shooter. I found, they are very spooky animals when they are hunted regularly. And here they were hunted hard! I tried for 8 days to get one with a bow, it just wasn't going to happen. On the afternoon of Day 8 I borrowed a rifle and got real real lucky. This is him. I consider them the prettiest straight horned antelope period.

Re: High MOOSE Did Rocky try and teach Bullwinkle to fly?

Re: Why Lie? You Moron! You want his job? Learn how to do what he does. IMO, opportunity is knocking.

Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] Whereabouts in the Limpopo province were you hunting and who were you hunting with? [/ QUOTE ] I was hunting just outside of Ellisras. At Adansonia Safaris run by Mof Venter. My wife got the trip for me at an Auction at an incredibly low price. (Don't ask how low, I'm not telling since the auctioneer asked me not too.)

Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] Leo----I shot kudu, zebra, impala, steenboc, and a warthog. I post them here a few years ago. I'll look & see if they are still in my computer. The thing about Africa is that it's not a real physcially demanding hunt. I'm doing my mtn hunts now while I can still climb. Hopefully I'll get my WY moose tag this fall & maybe another Colorado bighorn tag----plus the usual elk tag. [/ QUOTE ] I got a duiker, impala and kudu with my bow. I managed to get a gemsbok finally on day 8 with a rifle. I was hunting in the Limpopo province of SA. Where in Colorado are you? I got a couple friends out that way.

Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] My wife & I went there in 2002. 10 days in South Africa. Yes, we are going back-------probably the best hunting value out there----plains game in South Africa. CB [/ QUOTE ] Got any pictures? What animals did you take?

Re: Recommend a digital camera [ QUOTE ] If your budget can handle $300 or a little more I would highly recommend the Canon S3, It is a 6MP 12X Zoom with Image Stabilization. I have owned the S1, S2 and now an S3 by far the best yet. You will get professional looking pics for allot less spent. [/ QUOTE ] I agree I have an S2 and an S3. The photo quality competes with my brothers professional SLR. Plus you can put filters on the separately sold adapter and boost your manification with the Telephoto adapter sold separately. The macro and supermacro modes are very good as well.

Re: Broad Heads... * Montec or Sonic * BTH, Your post caused me to remember something. A buddy of mine tried the Sonics. Specifically this has to do with the blade durability problems you experienced. He said he actually managed to accidently bend the tip over on one of them. He said it bent merely by pushing it the quiver too hard! That's a problem that can be fixed and I hope they have.

Re: Hmm...how many? Hunting costs you arrows. It just does. They definately get broken more shooting game at animals than any other thing. Plus you're odds of losing an arrow are way higher hunting. If you loose just two arrows hunting and you've only started with six that makes ya real nervous. Practice eats arrows too. If you shoot one into a target enough you can crack it or damage it just doing that. Granted it takes a pile of shots to do that but I promise you can do it. I've done it with both carbons and aluminums. Hitting one arrow with another shortens their life, just stacking tight groups takes its toll. A "robinhood" is instant gratification and an instant loss of two arrows. For that reason I only try for real tight groups if I'm trying to adjust my sights. I find I need to buy a dozen every year. I wouldn't be too concerned even if you get a new bow. Odds are pretty good those arrows will work with the new equipment unless your set up changes dramatically. (ie. overdraw, your drawlength changes or drawweight changes) That's a good price on Bemans BTW. Are those fletched? What's the online link?

Re: Nitro Hevi-Shot??? [ QUOTE ] Here's a pattern pic taken a couple of seasons ago. 316 pellets inside a 10" circle at 40 yards. I never seen a choke/shell do that before until I got the Rhino/Nitro combo. [/ QUOTE ] That's a VERY tight pattern at 40yds! Sure got my attention!

Re: Tainted Peanut butter Salmonella [ QUOTE ] I just had another thought. I am not going to send in the lids. I am going to keep them in a safe place. Should I get sick in a week or two, I want proof I had the tainted product. If I send in the lids how do I know they didn't mysteriously disappear? I hate this. You can't trust anybody, can you? [/ QUOTE ] Good point!! I'd rather take a hit on the price of the jar than give them my only evidence. Ambuscher, glad your daughter is doing better.

Re: Africa Have a feeling this will get moved from the Turkey Hunting forum. But to answer your question. Yes, I do. I want to go back!
