  1. Re: Broad Heads... * Montec or Sonic * I used the Montecs in Africa this past Aug and killed a big Kudu that weighed over 700lbs with one. I got full penetration from a 70lb bow in spite of connecting with a very heavy rib bone. Can't ask for better results from a broadhead IMO. I have not used the Sonics but their short length and steep entry angle makes me nervous. Probably not a big deal with poundage over 65 and deer sized game but I might think twice about shooting a big wild porker with one. In fact I think I'd rather let someone else try it. The short design is what gives the Sonics their flight advantage as that really helps them get close to field point accuracy. But don't blindly count on it being exactly the same.
  2. Re: What do i really need Cutting carbon arrows with inadequate equipment is extremely dangerous. Cut wrong chances are very good you have permanently damaged that end of the arrow. This damage can let go unexpectedly when shooting the arrow. A quality high speed arrow cutter is hard to justify. Most places cut shafts to your specific length cheap or even free. The AZ easy fletch is cool and easy to use. Just don't squeeze it too hard and wrinkle the fletchings. You'll get the hang of it quickly enough.
  3. Re: Favorite killer tactics?? [ QUOTE ] MY preferred way requires first doing some patterning on the birds from the time they start gobbling on the roost until they quit gobbling on the ground. Patterning starts before the season but even when I'm hunting, if I hear birds in the distance that I'm not working, I pay close attention to where it sounds like they are going. As long as they gobble, they are giving away their location. After getting some birds patterned I'll try to get them to gobble on the roost the afternoon before I hunt them to confirm they are there. With late afternoon gobbling though, sometimes they cooperate and sometimes they don't. If they don't, I'll still assume they are there or close by. The next morning I'll move into position, in the dark to a point about 100 yards from where I believe they are roosted. I want to be between where they are and where my patterning homework has shown they preferred to go off of the roost. If I'm where I want to be when they gobble on the roost, I'll sit tight and almost always won't make a call until their feet hit the ground. There have been some occasions where it just felt right to give them a light cluck or 2 while they were still on the roost to peak their attention in my direction. If all goes well I'll sit there and work them in with what calls feel right. If they move away and keep going, I'll attempt to reloacte in front of where they are headed and the game begins again. [/ QUOTE ] Very good! You're killing turkeys for sure. If you plan on hunting all day. Better SCOUT all day
  4. Re: Land Purchase Question Besides the above noted title search headaches that require a lawyer. It's absolutely worth it to get the property professionally appraised and a CMA (competitive market analysis). Folks get ripped off all the time by ignoring an appraisal and CMA. It's happens so often, the joke is FSBO stands for For Sale But Overpriced. Typically the bank won't lend you anymore than the property appraises for. But just that doesn't make it a safe price either. If it appraises for higher than a competitive market analysis says its worth that's big trouble. Rule of thumb don't pay more than whichever comes out the least. On land purchases Access Rights are very important. Find out if you have full access rights and if anyone needs to go thru your land to access theirs.
  5. Re: Anybody ever break their wrist?? If it is broken and you let it heal without medical attention it may heal wrong. The only way they can fix it then is to REBREAK IT! Don't take the chance.
  6. Re: Tainted Peanut butter Salmonella [ QUOTE ] We had one jar(in the trash now), and one three yr. old that came down with it for a couple of days. [/ QUOTE ] Very sorry you have a sick child over this, hope they are better soon.
  7. This is NO JOKE. Check your cabinets I had TWO jars. A friend of mine was sick last week. He thought it was the "Flu". He had one jar with the bad product number. FDA warning
  8. Re: Tried some Shrink Fletch.. Part II I thought about twisting them but was worried about how consistent the offset would be.
  9. Re: Tried some Shrink Fletch.. Part II Unfortunately I think those only come in a straight fletch configuration. Any way to do an offset with those things?
  10. Re: Giving blazers a try My 2 cents. I don't think you'll get better flight with blazers over feathers. The blazers will be very good but probably not better. Where blazers really shine over feathers is durability. Feathers just aren't as tough. Before you go refletching a bunch of arrows. See how long it takes you to wear out the blazers.
  11. Re: Little Accident This Afternoon Glad no one was seriously hurt.
  12. Re: Wanting to play guitar. NEED HELP Yes get a tuner. But learn how to tune without one as well. A lot of music nowadays uses altered tunings. You can cheat some of the tunings with partial capos but not all. Learning how to tune your guitar and what the notes are is a great first task for a new guitar player. You won't impress anyone but it will make learning stuff later alot easier.
  13. Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers Here is what I remember of him before his incident. Noel was well respected as an expert at rattling. He was a paid presenter at several outdoor events. He also appears on some of the earlier Realtree Monster Bucks videos.
  14. Re: Anna Nicole Smith is DEAD In general it seems folks never want to believe a young celebrity can die of anything less than spectacular. Her weight has gone up and down like a yo-yo and she was almost 40. Honestly, a heart attack or stroke is not out of the question. In spite of whatever anyone thought of her. Those left behind still need prayers.
  15. Re: Clinton Surveilence Vidoe!!! No wonder she's interested in "Gun Control"
  16. Re: Mechanics, a little help please If it creaks when you turn the wheel left all the way while you are parked and still. Tie rod ends and pitman arm need inspection. The are probably rubbing something or wore out. Might be ball joints if you only hear it when you're moving but I doubt it on your truck. If it was a Dodge I would definately check the ball joints. Dodge truck ball joints are prone to early failure. Never replace Dodge balljoints with factory original parts. Been there done that. Nuff said. If the steering linkage is clear and unobstructed. And the tie rod ends and pitman arm looks good. It might be a bad wheel bearing. That's definitely not cool. If you jack up the front end and feel play in a wheel bearing. Replace it NOW! That's not a repair that can wait. A complete front wheel bearing failure is extremely DANGEROUS. Wheel bearings can go bad and you not feel play in them. As they wear out more. You will. The important thing is when you do find that play that's a job that requires IMMEDIATE attention.
  17. Re: Virtual Memory Question. Likely the emails aren't taking up too much hard drive space. Only remove programs you have the installation disk for. Many programs share dll's if during your unistall you zap one of those it can cause other programs you want not to work. Don't just delete EXEs. Use Add Remove programs or the unistall wizard for that program. Just deleting EXEs makes a mess of your registry which really can haunt you. Downloaded Music and Vid clips are the biggest space hogs on a hard drive. Concentrate on those first.
  18. Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? For average bassing lures and rods. 14lb Trilene xt is a very forgiving line for someone new to baitcasting. Superbraids like Powerpro and Fireline are great lines but take more proficiency with your gear to master. Also superbraids WILL NOT hold a clinch or uniknot worth a darn. Your best first knot to learning tying anything on a superbraid is a Palomar knot. Also clippers will be destroyed by superbraids very quickly. So I advise putting some mini-fishing scissors in the tackle box to anyone going the superbraid route.
  19. Re: Virtual Memory Question. Addressing the hard drive space handles the virtual memory problem. Emptying the recycle bin, clearing your browser cache and removing some restore points is a quick fix. You actually don't want your computer using virtual memory, unless you don't mind it being slow. You probably need more physical Ram as well. Those service packs and updates add processes that chew up memory. Nowadays 384mb is bare minimum on an XP system. I recommend at least 512mb or 1GB if you can get it.

  22. Re: Studying for the ACT Go to a major bookstore. Buy a study guide. Take ALL the practice tests. Nobody who does real well on those tests goes in cold. There isn't any of us who is born with the knowledge. You can increase your score considerably working the practice tests.
  23. Re: Blazer vs. regular vanes Almost all archers know and accept the following. Mostly because it's pretty black and white it's right there in every manufacturers arrow charts. If you go from a 100grn head to a 125grn head then you are reducing the effective spine of the arrow. That's pretty cut and dry any pro-shop guru halfway worth his salt will tell you this with confidence. "Adding weight to the front of the arrow reduces the arrow's effective spine." What seems to be totally ignored and in fact even disbelieved by alot of guys who absolutely should know better. Is that the reverse of this is ALSO true. TAKING WEIGHT OFF THE BACK OF THE ARROW ALSO REDUCES SPINE. Besides adding wraps with your blazers to reduce FOC if it is much too high. You do have some other options that are less permanent. Keep in mind FOC is based on your total arrow length. IE. end of point to end of nock. Different style broadheads of the same weight can cause significantly different FOCs. A longer head of the same weight moves the balance point and changes your arrows' overall length. It's pretty hard to predict with a great degree of accuracy what your FOC will be without knowing the details of the broadhead you select. You might be close, but measuring it yourself is the only way to be sure. On the other end of things the length and weight of the nock itself makes a difference too. And there are different nock lengths and weights available. You can put a bulldog collar in the nock end and then put in your nock. Here again note you've changed the overall length of the arrow. Plus the collar itself weighs about 5grs. If you decide you don't like them you can simply pull them out. If you're shooting a fall away rest fletching clearance isn't an issue. So fletch one arrow up with FOUR blazers instead of three and see how you like it. All that blah blah blah being said, bottomline whatever you decide to do to your arrows is your choice. Since the charts show your arrows as "overspined" I would select a head weight that gets you closest to a correct spine. Then get the arrows near the top end of the recommended FOC. And finally adjust the poundage accordingly. You may find, that in fact you don't need nearly as much draw weight as the charts suggest.
  24. Re: Snake Boots Snake boots don't protect your rear end or hands. IMO they give folks a false sense of security. I live in very snaky country. You run into them alot here in South Carolina. Your best protection is stuck in your head above your nose. See them first. Watch where you step, sit or put your hands.
  25. Re: Blazer vs. regular vanes A higher FOC will reduce the actual spine effectiveness of the shaft you are using. If you are borderline on spine, a higher FOC will mess you up every single time. You may raise your FOC and suddenly find your arrows are underspined. Usually that what's causing the problems not specifically FOC. To get the spine monster under control you usually have to turn your poundage down. Look at the draw weights pro's list on their tournament bows. This is one of the many reasons almost all of them shoot just under max of their setup. They are tuning the bow to their arrows. Not the other way around. Gator, I'd be surprised if the blazers gave you a higher FOC than feathers. I can't tell from your post. Usually Feathers give you the highest FOC. Especially 4" or 3" feathers versus regular blazers (not the minis which can be close to the same). Blazers are a great durable fletching that surpass regular fletchings on performance. But IMO it's darn hard to beat feathers in good condition. Which I believe you have found. Problem is, it's not so easy to keep feathers in good condition. Blazers are a good compromise.
