Yesterday was the final day of the Minnesota pheasant season. My brother & I took a trip to western Minnesota. Because of Ice on the roads - a 2 1/2 hr drive became a 3 1/2 hr drive. The truck thermomoter said -9 when we started hunting. (plus it was real windy) The snow was thigh deep wherever there was a drift, with about a 2" crust, that when you broke through made it really hard to get back up. Bottom line - IT WAS AN AWESOME DAY! We shot 5, lost 1. The birds held really tight in the cattails. I thought we would find bunches of birds, but for the most part they were singles & small groups. I have a 9 year old springer that I am sure is going to be recovering for the next couple days. The hunting was tough - weather miserable - but it was a good way to end the season -

I have 2 packs (3 per pack) of Rocky Mountain Snypers - 125 grain. I have shot 1 of the broadheads - the rest are still new in the packages. I got these on sale, and have just decided to stay with my Rocky Premiers. $20.00TYD for all 6.

Awesome Picture! I got some of a grouse strutting while turkey hunting last year, he was on the ground strutting & there was another (hen I assume) on a branch about 3 feet off the ground.. It was fun to watch.

How often do you have your string replaced on a compound bow? What are the signs that a string should be replaced? Thanks

Has anyone seen the information on the program Mepps has for buying squirrel tails? They use them for their spinners & will buy "lots" of tails. Though they do not pay a LOT of money - If someone does a lot of squirrel hunting, it will probably pay for their ammo. The price depends on how many tails you have, I think it averages around $.16 -.18 per tail.. If you do a web search for Mepps - the program will come up..

Scent-lok, Scent Sheild, etc. thoughts...
Missed160 replied to unioncountyslayer's topic in Hunting Equipment
I do not wear any Scent lok type clothing. I do as others here do, keep my clothing clean in scent free bags, most importantly, play the wind. What I think is incredible- are the hunters who think Scent Lok is the magic bullet. Last weekend I was going pheasant hunting & there was a guy at the gas station filling p with gas, in his Scent Lok suit & rubber boots. I made a comment to him & his reply was, "No Problem, it's Scent Lok.." I think a majority of the people who try for scent control, do not go far enough & the best way to control scent is with the wind. -
I think your best bet is to invite some other people from Minnesota who still have open tags to hunt with you.. hey wait, I'm from Minnesota.. I still have open archery tags.......

I got back from my Canadian whitetail hunt yesterday. It is incredible to hunt sooooooo much land! I never saw another hunter/track/deerstand and only heard 1 other shot in 4 days on the stand. I shot my biggest ever deer, a 5x6 - one for the G2's is broken & will hurt his score, but that is ok. He will score about 150 the way he is, dressed out at 232#. It was a dream hunt!

To answer your original question, yes, you are spraying too much. The scent killer sprays continue to work after they are dry - so there is no point (unless you just like buying scent spray) - to spray down over & over.. I spray before I hunt - Any time I can between hunts, I hang my clothes out for as long as possible, you air out - I store them as you do, in a scent proof bag.

Saturday I finally leave on my long awaited Canadian Whitetail hunt - I have everything ready, one decision to make: Real Horns or a Rattle Bag. I have never used a rattle bag, but it sure would be easier to carry/ pack to the stand. Who has used them, do they work as well? Any thoughts-input would be greatly appreciated.

I walked in one morning and found a guy from the property next door, sitting on my ladder. He said he was told me had persmission to sit there - He didn't I untied the support arm - he said "what are you doing" - I told him I was going to take the stnad down & move it to another spot - I untied the bottom, started climbing up to take off the upder strap, he came down pretty quick - called me an a**hole & took off. I was going to drop the stand with him in it, no problem!

You can get really great boots in your price range, you will probably need to stay away from the big brand names. I have purchased CABELAS name boots, and been very very happy. You didn't really say what kind of boots you are looking for - packs, hiking, insulated, how many grams....... Check out Cabelas, make sure to look in their bargain cave, lots of good boots on sale..

My dad started us deer hunting when I was in 7th grade. He hunted with us for about 25 years. Sat on stand every weekend, but he never shot a deer. He went to the cabin just to be with the boys & the group. He nver admitted what we all knew, till after he quit hunting, that he saw plenty of deer, just never wanted to shoot one. I remember one opening morning, I walked in to his stand to get him like we planned. When I got there he was very excited & said " Look at the ground", it had snowed most of the morning & the area around his stand was covered with tracks. He said he had more the 15 deer within 50 yards of his stand, , but according to him "No Bucks". Funny thing, he had my younger brouther sit there the next day & he shot his first ever deer, a nice 7 point. After my dad quit hunting & we were talking about things, he said he was hoping Ross wuld has shot the big one that was with the 7 point the day before...

I was at Cabelas this summer, looking for boots for a Canadian hunt - I tried these on & they were very uncomfortable for my feet. They really did look like nice well made boots, but even the wide width was to narrow for me. I instead purchased the Switchback 1400 gram..

Time sure seems to be moving slowly!! I have 7 weeks till my first ever Canadian Whitetail hunt ! We leave Saturday Nov 15th for the Duck Mountains area of Manitoba. The list is being made, checked & modified. I don't want to "wish my life away", But I have been dreaming of this hunt for at least 10 years, so I can't wait till it gets here!

She does look very interesting.. I would love the choice, picking someone out side the image of the republican party.. Unfortunately I haven't seen her named mentioned nationally.. Hope she gets some consideration.

I was out saturday, sighting in a new scope on my A bolt .270 - I tried a couple different types of ammo. I had hoped to shoot Federal Fusion 150 gr in Canada this year. After getting really good groups with Fusion 130 gr 2" high at 100 yards, I tried the 150. 4.5" low - Groups not near as tight. I was pretty shocked at the difference between these two.. The other type I had were sme Hornaday 140 grain, these shoot pretty much the same as the Fusion 130's, great groups. I have decided I am going to use these this year for whitetails.

I can't believe that he would pick Hillary. If he does, who would really be in charge? And - Does he really want Bill back in the White House looking over his shoulder?

Love that show. 20 yrs ago I would liked to have tried it..

5.56MM not getting it done in war on Terror
Missed160 replied to Adjam5's topic in Rifles & Accessories
I got out before the first Gulf war, some of my friends have been there for parts of both wars. The feedback they had was the same, they wanted M14''s/ Said a lot of the structures are mud/cinder block & the bigger rounds got through better.. I know the Army is now testing a replacement for the M16 (which I hated) - That is a new heavier caliber, about 6.5 mm.. Also, I loved the .45. -
That is AWESOME.. I love to watch kids show their faith.

I try to stay out all day during our rifle (rut) season. But I usually move stands at some point during the day. On the property we hunt I have multiple stand locations, with stands a few hundred yards apart. So usually at some point in the day I move to a new stand, to stretch my legs & mentally to watch something different. I have really been thinking about this though, as this year I am doing my first ever Canadian Whitetail hunt & I know that is the norm up there.. I week of all day in the tree could be pretty tough.

2 things help for cold water fishing: Slow down - Fish are a lot more lethargic in cold water, you need to really slow the presentation Go smaller - Using a smaller bait seems to help a lot
