I am kind of surprised how this post is going, with more people leaning toward the 308. Both are awesome calibers, when I saw the post I "assumed" the 270 would be more recommended..

Just looking for an update, anyone use Federal Fusions to kill anything this year? How did they preform. I have had great accuracy with them, just haven't seen how they perform in an animal yet.. Thanks

There is an awesome new cartridge out that is gaining a lot of popularity, and would fit what you are looking for perfectly! Look at the new 338 Federal. It a 308 case necked up to 338

I don't know how many people here watch oil costs, but today for the first time ever they are above $86 a barrel. Many "experts" are predicting $100 by the end of the year. Kind of scarey what this will mean for gasoline costs!!

I assume your fishing bass, which really slow down as the weather cools. To catch them now you need to keeps baits in front of them for a lot longer, fish them a lot slower so the don't have to chase them. We have had a ton of luck the past few years for fall smallies & large mouths on Husky Jerks. They suspend at what ever depth you need them to, they have rattles inside which can really help in murky water. Fish em slow, not constant retrieves, just twitch em in. Bass can stand watching that thing move by.. We catch bass, notherns & walleyes on them till ice up..

Has anyone ever tried the Artic Shield boot covers? I like to wear the lightest boots I can to stand & am thinking about getting some of them, but am wondering if they work well? I have some of the big boot blankets, but they are so bulky to carry...

There are definately incosistancies in a lot of the cheaper ammo. You said you tried Federal 150 grain, were those the $9.00 per box stuff, or their Premium brand? I always wonder if the premium stuff is worth it. If you are getting 1" groups or better with Core Locts, what more do you want / need? I have a hard time paying $1.50 a shell...

I have shot Rocky Mountain Advantage's for the past few years & wasn't planning on switching....... till I went to Gander Mountain one evening & they had Rocky Mountain Snypers on sale for $9.99 - I have never shot mechanicals at a deer, but everything I hear about these sounds great!

A bit of info for THEBAD1- I have hunted both ND & SD for pheasants. I love No Dak! Awesome country, plenty of birds & land and no where near as many people!

Looking at ballistics the 280 nudges out the 270 in most categories. I just don't think they ever achieved the popularity of the 270 because the difference(s), advantages just weren't great enough. The 270 has such name recognition & is so well established.

I would leave it alone for a day or two, let em settle down & resume their old habits.

What color/type of fletchings do the have? I'm thinking these would be good for my son, who is pulling low 30's for draw weight..
