  1. Re: 7 mm-08 backup Nothing wrong with the 7 m/m 08!
  2. Re: Scope for .30-30 lever action You might consider a Weaver 4-Power Scope for your Model 94.
  3. Re: What kind of rifle do you hunt with? I use a Ruger M-77 MKII in .270 and a Browning A-Bolt in .308 for Deer hunting in Kentucky. Here in Indiana I use a Browning Gold Deer Slug Gun in 20 gauge and a T/C Black Diamond M/L in .50 cal.
  4. Re: got my license! Drive careful. The traffic, in Evansville, is terrible!
  5. Re: Indiana? I live in Southwest Indiana, near Evansville.
  6. Re: scariest movie [ QUOTE ] halloween the first 1 [/ QUOTE ] I enjoyed all the "Halloween" movies! "Friday The 13th" is very similar too.
  7. Re: scariest movie [ QUOTE ] Hands down it is The Exorcist. [/ QUOTE ] Same Here.
  8. Re: Made my choice [ QUOTE ] It is a Leupold 2x7 Vari X II Shotgun scope. I had it on my 12 gauge 1100. I am going to try some of the new Hornady SST Slugs as well as Winchester Partition Gold shells. They fly a lot faster than the Lightfields. If I can find the buchammers I may give them a try. All I found are the core loks [/ QUOTE ] I have the same Leupold Scope on my Browning Gold. As for your ammo choices; I tried the Partition Golds (20 Gauge) and while they seemed to work fine; I felt that the light 260 grain bullets would be a tad too light. Also I didn't care for their lack of expansion. Now since you have a 12 gauge, they might be fine. Buckhammers & Lightfields are a bit heavier and they seem to be a bit more accurate at short range < 75 yards, which is well within most of my shooting range at Deer. Just buy a bunch of different brands and see which one is the most accurate.
  9. Re: Made my choice Try some Remington "Buckhammers" and some Lightfield Hybrids sabots. They both are accurate in my Browning Gold 20 Ga. slug gun. Your Remington 870 should serve you well; what brand of scope do you have mounted?
  10. Re: Ammo prices! [ QUOTE ] Our local walmart had clearance prices on some ammo a few weeks ago.I bought around 10 boxes of federal premium .270(130 gr ballistic tips and 150 gr partition)for $11-$13 a box. [/ QUOTE ] I can remember when: .243, .270, .30-06, .30-30, & .28 Rem. shells cost $5.00 per box of 20!!! You could buy a box of 100 Hornady 150 grain bullets, for reloading, at about $2.75, and a one pound can of powder for about the same price $2.75!!!!
  11. Re: Sabots -vs- Powerbelts I've never had any luck, in regards to accuracy, with powerbelts. I like the high pressure sabots much better.
  12. Re: Recommend a slug for me [ QUOTE ] Brenekke..VERY expensive though.. [/ QUOTE ] I've had very good luck, accuracy wise, using either Remington "Buckhammers" or Lightfield Hybrids sabots in my 20 gauge Browning Gold.
  13. Re: Stoeger Shotgun I own a Stoeger "Uplander" S/S in .410. It a very good shotgun, and I've bagged several Squirrels with it thus far. My shotgun like #5 shot the best.
  14. Re: Ammo prices! Here, in Indiana, we can't use rifles for Deer Hunting. We must use shotgun slugs and the saboted slugs retail between $12 to $15 per FIVE SHELLS!!!
  15. Re: what slugs I use Remington "Buckhammer" sabots and they seem to shoot well in my 20 gauge Browning Gold. Also Lighfields shoot well too.
  16. Re: anyone in indiana having problem\'s ! [ QUOTE ] david i see the samething too . i've got three squirrel's so far . it's turning cooler here so the squirrel hunting will get better. god bless [/ QUOTE ] Jim, Where I hunt, up near Glendale F&W Area, and on my own 15 acres, in Vanderburgh County; I've noticed that most of the Squirrels are in the cornfields. Got most of my Squirrels by sitting in the woods boardering a cornfield. What they are doing is filling up with corn then entering the woods and lying on a limb in tall trees. The Follage is very thick and since they aren't moving once they position themselves in the trees, it is difficult to see them. I was using a .22 Rifle but have switched to my .410 S/S at least untill the leaves thin out latter on in the season. It is very Hot & Humid in SW Indiana, and the only time it is cool enough is between sunrise and 9:00 am. Bugs are terrible this year too! <Good Luck with your Squirrel Season!>
  17. Re: anyone in indiana having problem\'s ! [ QUOTE ] anyone in indiana having problem's seeing any squirrel's ? it is really thik with leaf's on tree's and brush. the squirrel's should have been collecting nut's for winter but was'nt any doing that this morning they were'nt even jumping in tree's and bounching on the ground. it got down to 59 degree's last night and the fog was thick too. god hunting and good luck . been cool the past 2 night's [/ QUOTE ] I've been Squirrel Hunting a few times, and have seen better seasons. Last year was the worst I've seen since 1981. This year is slightly better, but no banner year. I've noticed there are fewer Hickory Nuts, Walnuts, and the Beech nuts are a little "skimpy" too. I've shot a few Squirrels out of Acorn, Poplar, and Black Gum Trees so far. I have also noticed that the follage is much more thicker than usual. My Brother says it due to the fact they bared heavy last year. Maybe thinks will improve somewhat later in the season.
  18. Re: Bullet of the week?? I'd like to see the old style Winchester Silvertip bullets available again.
  19. Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? We have very few Hickory nuts or Walnuts this year. Last year the trees were loaded. However the Oaks seem to have a good crop of acorns. I've seen very few Squirrels though. I Squirrel hunt in a woods about 60 miles north of my home. It might be a different story up there.
  20. Re: which scope I've had very poor results with Tasco brand scopes. You need to buy either a Leupold, Weaver, or Redfield 3 to 9 power scope.
  21. Re: muzzleloader help???? [ QUOTE ] i was wondering if anyone had advice on buying a beginner muzzleloader. i have been thinking of taking up muzzlerloader hunting and i would like to know what kind would be the best for around $200 or a little more if i have to... i want a good and accurate one but also reliable! i would appreciate any advice that anyone has to give! [/ QUOTE ] I own a T/C Black Diamond in .50 Cal. and very pleased with it's performance. You can find M/L (in-lines) for under $200 at Rural King Stores if there is any in your area.
  22. Re: Will Power! [ QUOTE ] Was in a sporting goods store this weekend and a guy brought in a Remington 788 carbine in .243 with a sling and two clips and a cheapy scope to boot. All for $300-I resisted temptation and didn't buy it but I'm weakening right now as we speak lol. [/ QUOTE ] I remember when that Remington model came out back in late 1967. It sold for under $100!! Something like $89.95 to be exact. I had one in .30-30 Winchester and it was a fine rifle.
  23. Re: Scope Shooting Consistancy
  24. Re: Groups 1 to 1.5 M.O.A. for Big Game Rifles. For your .222 I would like groupings of .750" or less @ 100 yards.
  25. Re: bases for my 30-06 [ QUOTE ] a little while ago i got a husqvarna 30-06 that is drilled and tapped for a scope... except i cant find a base to fit where the holes are. i dont know why it might be because the holes where drilled a long time ago ... i just want to know if this has ever happened to anyone else? [/ QUOTE ] Try Weaver Bases: #55 (rear) #46 (Front)
