  1. Re: Feeding Deer in Indiana Illegal???? The other evening, two nice Buck came up to the corn and fed. One was a 6 pointer and the other looked like an 8-point. It was getting a little too dark to look at their racks. However about three weeks ago a 10 or 12 point 18" spread, REALLY NICE buck showed up at the corn pile. I had a pair of Binoculars to see him. It's really interesting to see what Deer are present in the area. I have been placing corn out for them several years now, but do so about a month after the firearm hunting season.
  2. Re: Remington\'s New Bolt Gun Remington is also bringing out a new .22 LR Bolt Action rifle. I saw a photo of it on another forum and it looks alot like a "Charles Daly" Superior Grade .22 Bolt Action they had avaiable for a year now.
  3. Re: Ranger Double Barrel I am guessing that your S/S in 12 gauge is a "Sears" Brand shotgun.
  4. Re: Winchester 94 375 magnum [ QUOTE ] My parents stopped by this weekend and dropped off my model94 375 magnum,,, I couldnt believe how light that gun is, only 6 lbs !! with a 20" barrel.. I was like this is cool. I also have a 30-06, in comparing the 2 which would you say is more powerful ? I cant wait to get it out and shoot it......... When they gave it to me they said merry xmas ,,,,, i was like [/ QUOTE ] You're .375 Magnum, while a good brush rifle is less powerful than the .30-06, but still a good caliber for Deer sized game at moderate ranges.
  5. Re: I WON ON POWERBALL!!!!!!!! Seven players, here in Indiana, matched five numbers to win $200,000 each.
  6. Re: Barrel bedding? I have "bedded" several of my rifles inorder to improve accuracy. The most common type of bedding that I do is I take a wood dowl of proper diameter and wrap coarse sand paper around it and open up the barrel channel just enough to float the barrel. I then take a piece or two of plastic "Brown" tape and place it widthwise about 4" from the tip of the stock and replace the barreled action. I then test for accuracy and if all goes well I remove the barrelled action from the stock and place some appoxy glue over the tape to hold it perminately and let dry. After the glue has dried; I place some varnish/finish over the rest of the barrel channel to make it moisture proof. This methods works fine for most barrels, but there are a few that require "Glass" bedding. I recommend Brownell's "Acra-Gel", and just follow the instructions.
  7. Re: BBRRRRRRRRRRR We got about 2 1/2" in the McCutchanville area! Really comming dow this morning!
  8. Re: Feeding Deer in Indiana Illegal???? [ QUOTE ] here in IA it is illegal to hunt over bait piles but you can put them up infront of cams or during the winter, no clue about Indiana? [/ QUOTE ] I haven't heard but I don't think it is illegal to photograph Deer on a Cam at feeding areas.
  9. Re: Cost of a Big game tag [ QUOTE ] We are setting up a three day gun hunt in Illinois and a two day hunt in Indiana. Can anyone tell me the cost of a non-resident big game tag for Illinois and Indiana? Also we plan on flying to Illinois. What special arrangements or paper work need to be made for our firearms before they board the plane? [/ QUOTE ] The cost of a Non-resident Deer License is: $ 120.75 per Deer. No special firearm permits other than a license/tag for a Deer unless you are using a Handgun then a carry/hunting permit is required. Shotgun slugs, Handguns, and M/L are the only firearms permitted in Indiana for Deer Hunting.
  10. Re: True but nasty!!! Cottontail Rabbits do the same as Deer.
  11. Fewer people participate, but high-end outfits see business boom By Mary Thompson Reporter CNBC Updated: 5:06 p.m. ET Feb. 14, 2006 Vice President #### Cheney’s hunting accident is still front-page news — and fodder for late night talk shows. But it’s also unwanted publicity for a sport whose ranks are down 40 percent since 1987. Less leisure time, longer distances to preserves and a lack of hunting ground are all hurting the sport. “There are shrinking areas for people to hunt … I think that is one of the biggest things. There are more and more people living in the cities and not in rural areas,” says Sid Evans, editor for Field & Stream. Ben Beckage's B&B Pheasantry shooting preserve in rural Pittstown, N.J., now covers only 100 acres, well down from 1,000 in the 1980s. “I've seen it go from a blue-collar business to a high-end business,” says Beckage. “People would rather come in and have a country club atmosphere, which I don't want to provide, especially here. It's not feasible.” Smaller preserves may be struggling, but high-end lodges catering to wealthy individuals and corporations are bagging big business. These lodges charge customers up to $1,000 a day for guns, guides, dogs, the works. Their clients are aging baby boomers with a lot more money to spend and corporations looking for an alternative to the golf outing. At upscale Harris Springs Sportsman's Preserve in South Carolina, business is up 25 percent from last year, with 65 to 70 percent of it coming from corporations. Business is up 30 percent at Illinois' Harpole Heartland, with 40 percent of that coming from companies. Although there are fewer hunters, they're spending billions of dollars more. Sales of hunting equipment and guns are up 32 percent to almost $3 billion in the last five years; apparel sales are up 13 percent, and boot sales are up 45 percent. All showing that hunting is still a sport that gets big bucks.
  12. Re: Feeding Deer in Indiana Illegal???? I have been feeding shelled corn to a few "unhuntable" Deer, in the wintertime for years. I have never heard of a law saying it is illegal. I know it is illegal if you hunt an area and place corn, salt, or other consumables around for Deer.
  13. Re: Pretty good article on shotgun slugs... Thanks much for the link!
  14. Re: cartridge recommendation 7mm-08,30-06,elk,muleys If you are going after Mule Deer, Bear, and Elk, using a .30-06; I'd choose either a 165 grain or 180 grain boat-tailed spitzer type bullet.
  15. Re: Re-Loading? \"I need info,\" post. Lee makes reasonably priced Reloading Presses. I think they even still make the kits thay call "Lee Loaders" in the caliber you have. I personally have the same R.C.B.S. reloading bench press that I bought back in 1968.
  16. Re: Need Value Of Shotgun. What type of S/S ?? I have a Gun Traders Guide, and it list several S/S made by Charles Daly. There is one called Charles Daly Empire Grade Hammerless Double which they list as being worth $595. Then there is other styles worth from $1,000 to $5,000.

  22. Re: Remington \"Buckhammer\" sabots? [ QUOTE ] Thanks, AJ! Point well taken, and I'll go buy a couple of boxes to see how they perform. My shots would be under 75 yards by-the-way. [/ QUOTE ] AJ, I bought a couple boxes of Remington Buckhammers 20 ga. this morning. Tested then this afternoon, and found them to be very accurate and on par with the Lightfield Hybrids. Same P.O.I. at 25 yards. And at 50 yards. They should both zero at 75 yards or a little beyond that.

  24. Re: Remington \"Buckhammer\" sabots? [ QUOTE ] i bought some and they shot horrible, i'll never buy them again. i'm shooting a rem. 870 fully rifled 12 gauge, i'm going to try some winchester supreme's [/ QUOTE ] I shoot a 20 gauge and was wondering what type accuracy the 20 gauge would produce. I already heard the 12 gauge Buckhammers aren't very accurate due to the slow rifling twist and a heavier 1 1/4 oz slug. The 20 gauge only weighs an oz. AJ can you give me some answers on this subject?
  25. Re: Punxsutawney Phil All I know is this has been the warmest winter, so far, I'd ever seen. I Wonder what the Summer will be like?
