I hit two high last year. The first one bedded down about 400 yard from where I hit it. Someones dogs found it and I followed the barking and put a second shot in it. The second on I got lucky and hit the femoral artery and the thing left a blood trail Ray Charles could follow. She dropped in about 75 yards still in my sight.

Yep, on my 223 the best load was the minimum of 25.0gr. of Varget. They more I put in it the bigger the groups got. I thought it was the gun heating up, but went back down to 25 and boom good group again. Shot a big ol' doe with it and she dropped in 5 steps.

After 5 different powders I got my 243 to clover leaf with the 7828SSC and have "Several" loaded for it. The other gun is a youth model with a short barrel. I couldn't get anything to shoot out of it very well and someone advised me to try a 243 handgun load with a faster burning powder. I had some varget hanging around from loading 223 and ended up getting a sub MOA group with that. Probably could have gone with a lighter bullet for the same results, but didn't have any on hand and that was when things were a little harder to come by.

Odd, but for some reson 4350 doesn't shoot worth a darn out of either of my 243. Lots of folks have recomended it to me though. I must have odd guns.

I load for two different guns, one loves 7828SSC and the other does much better on Varget.

I've been thinking about getting a Saiga rifle for a project and can't decide between 223 and 7.62x39. On the one hand I already load 223 and have a few extras laying around the house. On the other the 7.62 are pretty plentyfull and cheap. What's the performance difference in the two rounds and the advantages disadvantages to both.

I've shot a 100gr. Hornady BTSP the last few years with very good results.

Well, I guess my answer to the question was NO. I had 4 other opportunities to shoot the fawns, but the momma was just too close and I was trying to hold out for the momma's but it just never happend.

I can just see that little thing on my smoker right now. I get another chance and bambi is table fare.

No tags to buy here. Only thing this is costing me is gas money.

That's what I was thinking. Nothing like a little fresh air to get the new boot smell out.

What would it be like to skin it out and smoke it whole? Mmmmmmmmm

Kinda what I was thinking at the time, but if momma's not going to give me a shot I could always give two or three of the little ones away.:gun1:

I got an urban hunt permit and they want us to kill as many deer as we can with no regard to sex (but does preferred) age, or antler size. Last night a big momma, I would guess 5year old or more and a fawn stepped out. Momma was a little on edge and stayed in the brush the whole time, but the fawn gave me several shot opportunities at 10-20 yards but I didn't take them. I saw several other deer but only fawns gave me good shots and I didn't take them. I'm thinking that when I go out Saturday morning that if I get another shot I'm going to take Bambi down. I'd really rather get me a big doe. We have to give the first deer to Hunters Feeding the Hungry anyway, so I guess a deer is a deer. This is a population control hunt so I does it really matter the age. So would you have shot Bambi?

Shoot as many bows that you can. There are lots of good bows out there Diamond, Martin, Bear, Mission and the Red Head bows from Bass pro are good bows. My first bow was a Diamond Edge youth bow that cost all of $200. It killed 3 deer last year and was plenty accurate. I upgraded to a used Bowtech Guardian this year. I got it for $325 but shopped around quite a bit before buying. You can find great deals if you shop around. Good Luck

I've not shot my horton much since getting into compound, but it's a great alternative when in a ground blind.

20,30,40 60,70 I don't figure I'm going to shoot anything at 50 yards and beyond, but I like shooting long so I went with the 60 and 70.

Kids are stupid. It's not their fault, it's just a condition of thier age, much like getting taller and growing body hair. It's just the way it is. Nothing a kid does suprises me.

Still had to get the termite contract.. Odd eh.

Another reason to have reflective wraps. lol Sorry about that. I would spend some time with some field tips on before shooting the good stuff again. Good luck

Reminder of why I'm against 'open' crossbow hunting
johnf replied to huntinsonovagun's topic in Bowhunting
I don't think it will change much Jeramie. Xbow has been legeal in AR for years and it hasn't significantly chanted anything. I think the percentage of deer killed with an Xbow is like 2-3% or less of the total deer killed in the state. I think I'm one of many people who start out with the xbow and figure out that the disadvantages are outweighed by the advantages and switch to compound. In 7 years shooting the X I killed 1 deer with it. I switched to compound last year and killed 3. I'm sticking with what works. -

There are idiots on any weapon. I did a permit only hunt that you had to shoot and qualify for. All you had to do was keep 3 arrows in a row in the vitals at 18 yards. I was amazed how many people missed the whole dang deer. They knew 6 months ahead that they had to do it. I had been shooting for 4 months at the time and couldn't believe the lack of preparation so people had. You also have the people who belive they are shooting some sort of SUPERDUPERMAG that they can hit the deer anywhere and it will drop in it's tracks. We can only control ourselves and our own ethics. We can however remind people of them. -
I would really like to get a 41Mag some day. Don't know anything about handgun scopes.

I've had one in 9mm and I've got family that have had pretty much everything that Hipoint makes. The 9mm is marginally concealable and those bigger ones are going to be really hard to conceal unless you are a real big guy. As far as function, I've not seen a single issue with them as long as you keep them clean. They have the best warentee out there and customer service is great. We have found that side by shooting that in very slow deliberat shooting it the hipoints do as well as my Glock. Double tap groups were about 2x as big with the high point and shooting a full clip as fast as you could almost trippled the group size at 10 yards with the HP's. In a CC situation you want to be as accurate as you can possibly be.
