  1. Re: What are your goals? dogdoc, Actually, no we do not have an accurate estimate on numbers per square mile nor do we have a number for carrying capacity. What I can tell you is that we are nowhere near what the carrying capacity is, our herd numbers are VERY low. Through trail camera use and summer glassing our resident herd can usually be counted on both hands with maybe an occasional toe added in. A common saying here in my area is that "you may hunt for a week and never see a deer but if you hear one coming get ready it could be a good one". Our herd is decimated by decades of poor regulations, poaching, and a lack of knowledge. There are just now starting to be high enough numbers to support a huntable population around the family farm. So really we are in on the ground floor and starting at the right time to develop a diversified age structure.

    winter

    Re: winter Hmmmm.....Global Warming?
  3. Re: Put the rumors to bed [ QUOTE ] Who's the daddy???? [/ QUOTE ] I have to admit I was thinking the same thing.
  4. Well apparently the Burton brothers will be reunited on the track for a full season in 2007. I was reading on NASCAR.com that Morgan McClure racing has signed ward for the 2007 season. I know he filled in some for the end of this year and didn't do great but it was kinda neat to see him back. I'm not a huge Ward fan but I've always thought he had potential to be a winner if he could get good equipment.
  5. Re: only [ QUOTE ] Daytona? Who cars about Daytona. How long until Tilleda? [/ QUOTE ] Tilleda, dont you mean Talladega
  6. Re: What kind of cell phone do you have?? Motorola StarTAC. Best phone ever made. Too bad Motorola quit making them. I guess mine is the last one working in this area.
  7. Re: Where do you live? Our "city" is small but I guess you could say we live in the suburbs. We are a very residential area where most houses sit on 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre.
  8. Re: What are your goals? Our goals are more generalized than long or short term. Primarily, we are trying to increase the overall herd numbers while maintaining a good herd balance. With that in mind we are letting younger bucks walk and focusing on more advanced age class bucks and that equates to bigger deer. We have an extensive food plot and feeding program. All in all the program is working well and only the coming years will tell the tale.
  9. Re: Gutting gloves First let me say that I am also a career firefighter/EMT and I come into contact with all kinds of folks almost daily. I'll wear gloves everytime when I am in contact with a human patient. Personally, I don't wear gloves while gutting or skinning a deer. I know that there are risks of getting an infection from any foreign substance entering the blood stream. However, I do not know of any BBP's (Blood Bourne Pathogens) or actual diseases that will transfer from deer to human through fluid contact. Bovine TB could be an exception, I just don't know. Unlike HIV, HBV, and other human diseases I don't worry about deer blood or fluid. I would be more worried about getting some type of staph infection rather than an actual transfered virus from gutting a deer.
  10. Re: What caliber? Well, two of the calibers you mentioned are of the same "family". The 270 and the 30-06 are both on the same casing. A 270 is a 30-06 case necked to carry a .277 bullet. As far as for the game you mentioned any of the 3 will work. Personally, I don't prefer any caliber with "mag" in it. So I'm more about the 270 or the 06. My caliber of choice is the 270. Loaded with 150 grain partitions or a comparable 150 grain bullet the 270 will anchor elk, moose, and bear easily. You can back it off to the 130 grain bullets and get very fast and flat trajectories for antelope, deer, and varmints. For me the caliber of choice would be the .270
  11. Re: Anybody else scared by O\'Bama?? Slugshooter, sorry but my last reply wasn't aimed at you directly. It just seemed like the my original thoughts were getting lost in political and racial banter. However, I do disagree with your statement that it is laughable to consider O'Bama as more than he really is. In my mind he fits the criteria to a "T" so far. Very suave, sophisticated, a very eloquent and well spoken person, and he always seems to be able to say EXACTLY what the people want to hear, when they want to hear it. With his sudden out of nowhere victory in 2004 and a rush straight to the top I was just wondering if anyone else possibly had some of the same opinions that I do.
  12. Re: Anybody else scared by O\'Bama?? I also could care less if he is black, white, yellow, green or polka dots. The original question had nothing to do with race. The question was "are there any other Bible believing Christians" afraid. My fears of O'Bama are based in scriptures and I was wondering if anyone else saw the same similarities that I do.
  13. Re: Broadheads \" Mechanical vs Fixed \" 100 grain 3-blade Muzzy's for me. I'm not a fan of mechanicals and will not shoot them. I too have heard the same horror stories that you mention.

    working Christmas

Re: working Christmas Not this year. I get to work Christmas Eve instead...but working a 24 hour shift I still won't get home until after 8 am Christmas morning.
  15. Re: you know whats weird????????? It's not that weird. I'm 34 and had two baby teeth up until 2001. I had one come out then and the other will come out eventually. The dentist told me that the permanents just never developed behind them. He also told me that baby teeth have no true root system so they will come out eventually...well one already has. At least now I don't feel like the lone ranger.
  16. Re: Favorite Christmas Movie? Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas.....LOL (jk) Seriously, it is a toss up for me. The remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" is great but I also like Tim Allen in "The Santa Clause"
  17. Re: Deer / Car Collisions All I can say to this is be VERY CAREFUL what you wish for or you may just get it. Then you would have a set of regulations that allow a virtutally unlimited harvest of both sexes and a DNR that turns the other way when someone poaches. That in turn equtes to the biggest bucks being nice 18 month old 6 points. Deer/car collisions are not deer's fault or the property owners fault (what about national forest land?). In short people need to hang up the cell phone, quit digging on the radio, and PAY ATTENTION when driving.
  18. This is actually the perfect forum to post his question..Politics AND Religion. Are any other Bible believing Christians scared by Barak O'Bama and his whirlwind rise to power and now possibly the presidency? I'm sorry but I feel that I have read a whole lot of this somewhere before.
  19. Re: anybody shoot a CSS My Father-in-Law and Brother-in-law shoot CSS. My father-in-law had to go to crossbow due to shoulder injury but he loved the CSS. When I buy again that is probably what I'll go to.
  20. Re: I hope Gary Alt is happy.............. This is the very reason that I stand strong against AR's. True they do serve to help the herd in the SHORT TERM. However, just like the original thread listed they only serve to protect inferior genetics and thus decrease true potential in the long term. Many western states that originally started managing through AR's are now dropping the AR and managing different ways. In my opinion the best possible way to protect bucks is to limit the number of buck that can be taken to one. That will make everyone think before they pull the trigger on that 18 month old basket rack.
  21. Re: Desktop Backgrounds My little girl in her little pumpkin outfit for now. The picture changes regularly but it is always my little girl.
  22. Re: Get a dog or have child? I have to vote for the kids...Wouldn't trade mine no matter how much paint she smeared around.
  23. Re: how fast of winds will you hunt in I'm not a fan of being out if the winds are much higher than 20 MPH. However, you can't kill 'em if you are home on the couch.
  24. Re: JG - DNF #3! Love it...Love it. Anytime the 24 is behind the wall it's great.
  25. Re: Reckon NBC and NASCAR will get the message?? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Sounds like the fans are getting fed up with watching a commercial with an occasional interruption of racing. [/ QUOTE ] Here is a link to an indepth commercial break down fro mthe Talledega race.... Commercial breakdown for the UAW-Ford 500 There was 215 minutes from the start to the finish of the race. In that time there was 65 minutes of commercials. I figured it out to be 9 minutes of commercial for every 30 minutes of air time. Is that really any different then your average 30 minute prime time sitcom? Don't get me wrong, I hate commercials too, but somebody has to pay for the race being aaaaired. The only other option is to go to pay per view, and then everyone would be screaming. [/ QUOTE ] I have to disagree...First they could do a split screen and keep showing the race. IRL racing does that. Second, racing isn't prime time sitcoms, NFL football, or Major League Baseball, so trying to time it in minutes is apples and oranges. In racing the green flag drops and it is on until the caution or the checkers. No timeouts, no inning changes, no breaks..period. At Talladega, the longest green flag runs aired were the opening 11 laps and the final 10 laps. The rest of the time it was either a cycle of green flag pits stops and then back to commercial or between 4 and 6 green flag laps then commercial. It is out of hand and in my opnion they should at least show it as split screen.
