  1. I finally made it up to the farm yesterday. The food plot is looking pretty good. I need to head back up in a couple of weeks to mow and fertilize, but I'm pleased with it so far.

    Morel Season!

I found me a dozen yesterday. I'm the only one in the house that eats them, so they were all mine.
  3. I haven't had a chance to get back up check on it since I planted. I need to set a day aside to go up and fertilize it and move some stands. Man, I remember the days when I could just go whenever I wanted lol. Now it's track, baseball, softball, or soccer every day of the week.

    Morel Season!

Nice haul there Frank! I need to get out and pick a few if I can get a weekend that the kids don't have a bunch of stuff going on.
  5. The republican party is really squandering their chance to take over and turn things around yet again. Anymore it's pretty muddy waters between the political parties and it is discouraging. I voted for Kasich as out best option, but it is looking more pretty unlikely at this point that he will get the nomination. Come election day I will vote for who ever is running against Hillary whether I like them or not I suppose. One of these days I hope we have a presidential candidate that I can really get behind and support.
  6. Absolutely! It's very generous to give out prizes, so thank you. I don't do facebook, but out of curiosity is anything ever mentioned about the forums or the deer contest on the Realtree facebook account? Also, all of the other forums I visit send out a monthly newsletter with links to articles, product reviews, sales, and popular threads.

    Deluge!

We just missed it. The had forecasted 6-8" of rain for us this week, but a cold front pushed it just to our south and we ended up getting about an 1" or so.
  8. Sorry to hear that Tim. We're praying for you bud.
  9. That looks like it would work pretty decent. I usually just stick a chunk of tree limb behind the top of the camera to angle it down, but I only go up 5 or 6 feet.

    Wow

54 active members...yikes. When I first joined I would check in two or three times a day and there were always new posts and threads to read. Now you can check in once or twice a week and still not miss much.
  11. Man, that's a bummer. Those were a couple of stud deer. When EHD hits hard you feel it for several years. Hopefully mother nature cooperates and you don't get hit on consecutive years.
  12. Woot woot woot! Thanks for the votes! That was a buck of a lifetime for me. I'll be hard pressed to top a deer like that. Congrats to MCH, Rhino, and team 4! That team was on fire and had a great year. Also thanks to William for running this thing. Even though participation is down it's something that I always look forward to and enjoy.

    Snow!!

Sheesh...that's a load of snow. We haven't had 20" all winter this year. We are suppose to get a few inches tomorrow I believe. Getting some miles on the sled this year?
  14. What about John Kasich? Any chance he's a dark horse in this? I can't say I know, or have heard much about him as his noise level is way lower than Trumps.
  15. I had a free day Saturday and the weather was great so I headed up to the farm and got some work done. I drug the rotary hoe over the plot a few times planted some Evolved Harvest ProVide that I picked up for 50% off. Seed to soil contact should be pretty good. This is about a half an acre. The weather looks like it should work out for me the next few weeks. We have highs in the 30's and 40's and lows in the 20's the next 10 days, with a little rain and snow in the forecast. The topsoil should freeze and thaw pretty regularly, so hopefully it works out.
  16. MCH gets my vote also. Mrswtnhunt is a close second, and Turkeygirl always takes a nice field pic as well.
  17. I think my vote will go to Hoosierhunter.
  18. I seen Santorum dropped out. Jeb's running on fumes so I don't think he'll be too far behind. Rubio has kind of been quietly sneaking up on the leaders.
  19. Man, you did it all on that trip. Congrats! That axis buck is beautiful.
  20. I'm thinking middle of February should be good. I would guess that we have frost until early March, and usually have some snow in March also. I'll give it a shot. I suppose it couldn't hurt to pull the rotary hoe over it a few times to loosen the ground up a bit. It will be way easier for me to go up and fertilize and mow a few times a year than it is to do all the work that it takes to do annuals right.
  21. Way to get it done! Congrats on a dandy.
  22. Congrats on a great buck! That's some serious persistence. Love the chocolate rack.

    Brrrr!

We finally got our first snow of the year last night. Only about 3" here. We've had a few lows down in the single digits and a few highs in the teens, but nothing too extreme. I might try to play a little pond hockey or pull the kids on the 4 wheeler this weekend.
  24. A little run down of my food plot last year.....we had a nice wet summer. I thought I would get my plots in early and spent early August tilling & liming. I planted oats and turnips in the middle of the month, and just my luck the rain shut down completely. Some germinated & grew, but it's very thin. The soil is still relatively loose. I'm thinking of mowing what is left down and frost seeding clover & chicory the middle of February. Anybody had luck with this? I want to take a break from fall/winter annuals for a while. All of the stuff the kids are into makes it hard to get up to the farm as much as I need to at the end of summer to mow, spray, till, etc.
