1. Blackhorn is awesome, they with TC helped guide me through my troubles ( mostly on my part ). TC sent me a spanking new breechplug for my Triumph free of charge without charging me for it, and Blackhorn gave me a complete guide on how to use and clean Blackhorn 209. I haven't had a single problem since. Here is a link to Blackhorns recommendations on use and cleaning .. http://www.blackhorn209.com/specs/ignition-guidelines/
2. The quicker target acquisition would be for waterfowl, my buddy likes to borrow my 887 for duck hunting with his boy. I have to take my Red Dot off for that and then in the spring I end up having to re zeroing when I put it beck on. I wasn't sure if you had any experience with the Vortex line.
3. Now that's a SWEET rig. I have the exact same red dot scope on my 887. I was thinking of getting a Vortex Viper to replace it. Any thoughts on the Viper for quicker target acquisition. http://shop.opticsplanet.com/vortex-viper-red-dot-6-moa-sight.html?_iv_code=VX-RD-VRD-6&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=plusbox-beta&gclid=CP-WiYbf6dACFY6Fswod__AISA

We're Back!

But why is the question ?? In cases like mine, I could really use that option to fix the links that were messed up during the migration. I really don't understand the time limit on the edit feature.

We're Back!

OK, this may be a small issue but It's still as aggravating now as it was with the old forum format. WHERE'S the freakin' edit option ?? I saw that my bear pictures in the Bow Hunting Forum didn't load properly so I looked for the edit option to fix the issue and guess what, there's no edit option once you hit post once again. Why is it we can't have a edit option for our posts to correct things at a later date ?? OK, rant over .. OK, correction, there seems to be a small time limit to edit ,, why a limit ??
9. Joe, I switched over to Toxics this season, I had the very same issue last season with Slicktricks. So I went on the search for a better broad head and came across the Toxics by Flying Arrow Archery. I was skeptical at first, like you because I was relying on videos like yourself ( but really what else have we got to go on ?? ) I have taken a Doe and an Black Bear with this broad head and I have to say I was very impressed indeed, especially with the bear, with a bad shot placement from me, but still had great blood. Here's a link to check them out. Scroll to the bottom and watch some of their actual videos, impressive to watch. http://flyingarrowarcheryusa.com/
10. I think a Flintlock would be just out of my league .. lol I'm just getting the hang of this black powder stuff, I got a way's to go before the Flintlock stuff. They do sound fund to shoot tho.
11. Is it cold enough there yet Martin ?? We see bears routinely through out Nov. and early Dec. here in VT.
12. I see my pictures of the bear have issues after the migration, not sure how to fix that I don't see a edit option. Thanks Guys, I should have had that info before shooting at a bear ,, my bad, and a lesson learned. I'm just fortunate it worked out in my favor, because a wounded bear is no joke.
13. You truly want a devastating broadhead ?? One that fly's tru and actually does what it claims. Check out Flying Arrow Archery's, Toxic Broadhead. I was skeptical until I used it in the field this past bow season, I made a very marginal shot on a Doe, and I'll tell you she left a blood trail a blind person could have followed. Not that I really needed the blood considering she didn't clear the meadow I was hunting. When I walked up on her I noticed I hit her farther back than I expected, but the Toxic bore such a wound it didn't matter. I just wish I had my video camera with me that day to show what I was seeing. Really check them out and watch some of the videos they have on their site of actual hunts and see what I mean. I think I've found the monster of all broadheads ... By the way Fly, those are some very nice deer ... Congrats !! Here's the link to their webpage. http://flyingarrowarcheryusa.com/
14. Well, the Triple 7 loose powder and the B.O.R. Locks were a total bust. Just couldn't get any type of accuracy no matter what I tried. Just mu opinion the B.O.R. Locks are junk. So one of my buddy's suggested I try the Blackhorn 209 ,, So I bite the proverbial bullet and go a buy some Blackhorn, 240grn. Superglide Shockwaves, and some new primers ( CCI Magnums ) just to be on the safe side. I go the range and setup 110 grns. of Blackhorn and ram a shockwave down the barrel and prime the breech. I settle in on the bench rest and line up the 100 yrd. target and pull the trigger and all I get is a pop. So here I am holding my ML for dear life waiting for this thing to go off ( not great feeling ) so after waiting a couple minutes I pull the breech plug and empty the powder out and push the round out. I clean everything one more time and reload everything as I did previously. I settle in on the rest and line up on the target and pull the trigger, this time it goes off as it should and hits the target abit high and right. I adjust the scope accordingly and reload, this time after pulling the trigger I get a freakin' delayed ignition. I'm thinking to myself this can't be happening, frustration is a understatement at this point. I reload again and settle in an pull the trigger and it fires as it should and this round actually hit the bullseye. So I decide to reload and try one more, yep you got it, the thing just goes pop and nothing. So I unload and head home just purely disgusted. I get home and do some internet research, I start at the Blackhorn 209 website. Behold they have a whole article on particular breech plugs that have inconsistent spec issues with the flash channel and fire channel. so I email TC with the said article attached. I wait for 6 days with no response. My buddy calls and asks how I made out at the range, he instantly knows I'm not a happy camper. He said meet me at the range with your stuff in 5 minutes. So I gather everything up and we meet at the range. He tells me to do everything I did prior, so I measure out 110 grns. of Blackhorn ( tapping it to be sure it's settled and giving me an accurate reading ) I then ram a shockwave and prime the breech with a CCI primer. I the settle into the rest and pull the trigger, NOTHING !! So now I'm PO'd bigtime. He calms me down and says, take that primer out, and he hands me one of his Winchester 209 shots shell primers and says try again, Boooom, bullseye on the target. He says reload, I do and don't you know it, it doesn't go off again, he hands me another one of his primers and I try again, Boooom the round hits almost in the same spot. I reload again but this time I use another one of his Winchester primers and perfect ignition, I now have a clover leaf on the target. I reload one more time and get yet another perfect ignition and a good shot on the target. So we don't get lost as to why I went through all of this misery is that I couldn't ram 2 consecutive shock waves down my Triumph using Triple 7 Pellets, and the Powerbelts just weren't doing what I needed. And besides I figured I should be able to use a TC product in a TC. I am now able to ram up to 8 rounds with having to swab or clean between reloads. Oh, yeah remember that non response to my email. I went to Thompson Centers facebook page and let them know of my displeasure with their lack of response, I got a inbox within the hour asking for my address so they could send me a NEW updated breech plug, and they even over-nighted it to my surprise. It's just to bad someone has to get upset on social media to get a response from a company. So this is what I ended up with ... 110 grns. of Blackhorn 209 240 grn. Superglide Shockwave Winchester 209 Shot Shell Primers and one zeroed in TC Triumph ready for ML Season action. P.S. Sorry for the book ... lol

We're Back!

I took a hit on the post count as well, William. But hey everything looks good and seems to be running smooth.
16. LOL ,, you ain't kidding Al ,, Next time it's winch time ... :)
17. Had me going .... DORK !! ...
18.
I had to be "educated" waaaay back on this too. Canada outfitters will tell you on your spring bear hunt to shoot midway back on body if broadside. Your quartering shots are more forgiving of course.
Absolutely ,, I'll take all the info I can get ... I may be 50 but there's still plenty of learning to be had. And sites like this and people like yourself is where the info and learning come from ... :)
19. Don't know William ,, sounds like he's serious ... not sure what's up, but it definitely doesn't sound good.
20. Now that I can use a crossbow here in VT, I will be looking for one myself. I have been eyeing the Wicked Ridge line from 10 Point. Congrats on the Crossbow, and look forward to seeing what you harvest with it.
21. This can't be good ... what's up Martin ??
22.
Dont get me wrong, I'm happy you got to finish him off Luke!....Good Bear is a DEAD Bear! Info on vitals is for anyone to consider that reads this, aim further back than normal on a bear.
Yep, didn't think anything bad of your response in the least Martin. And that info is good info for all to know, this is my first archery bear and I didn't give the shot placement the research I should have. So anytime anyone can give good advice, I'm listening .. lol
23.
Luke;...Bears need to be shot a bit further back than behind front leg; Vitals are not like a whitetail; go for what you would consider a gut shot, you will drill vitals every time. Congrats! I hate bears! I used to grow corn...yes they damage alot
As you can tell Martin I don't shoot a lot of bears ,, messed up that first shot bigtime and realized it after I sat down. I got lucky and the bear presented a second opportunity for me ... :)
