Thanks, I'll have to look into those.

So I should be OK with the Triple 7 powder ... with the B.O.R. Locks.
-
Sorry about that ,, that would be Muzzle Energy. Think I may have found something on there site ,, According to TC ,, using 150 grs. of loose FFG black powder with a 250gr Shockwave will produce 1853 FPS of Muzzle Velocity and 1907 ft. lbs. of Muzzle Energy. But it doesn't say what brand Black Powder they are using. [B]ONT=Helvetica-Condensed-Bold]150 grs. William according to TC's chart for my Triumph using a 250 -300 grn. bullet with 150 grns of pyrodex pellets the muzzle velocity is between 2680 - 2762 ft. pounds of velocity. I have always used 150 grns. ( 3 Pellets ) for a charge.

It's been awhile posting, but my opening bow season here in VT has been a active and a interesting one ... NO JOKE ... This is going to be a lengthy story so get a snack now.. lol I get to the family farm early afternoon to check in, and at that time I was informed I had to use my bear tag this year. I have been refusing to shoot bears, I learned a hard lesson in my youth as to what is involved in taking a bear, and I wanted nothing to do with them. Needless to say that choice was no longer mine, use my tag or my area would be open to anyone willing to shoot bears. The reason for this is that the bears have got out of control, they rolled 37 acres of corn last season, just on this one farm alone. And if you know what just one acre is worth, you will understand what the total loss is every year, so they have to be thinned out. I just hate doing it .. The very first afternoon I have 2 yearling twins playing in front of me for what seemed like hours, they them decide to bed down right under me ,, figures .. lol I did have plenty of doe's in the field, but they seemed to keep to the middle out of range. Come to be almost dark I hear splashing in the brook that is located behind my stand in a deep ravine. I know from experience what is making the spectacle, so I gather my stuff, and run off the 2 youngster that were sleeping below me and head for the truck. So here we are on day 2 in the afternoon ,, almost same scenario as the day before the same 2 yearling show up and decide to play around again, but this time bedded down about 50 yrds from my stand. Fast forward a bit to around 5:15 pm and I hear a snap behind me ( of course we all always hear a twig break or some type of noise ,, right ?? ) so I stand up and turn around, I hear something making it's way towards me, YUP, dang it it's a freakin' black bear. So I think to myself lets get this over with .. it gets to be about 20 yrds away according to the trusty range finder, so I let one fly spot on hit ( so I thought ) the arrow enters just behind the shoulder and exits about the same spot on the opposite side. Don't you know it, this dang bear bolts into the ravine. I climb down and check the spot I hit it and there's good amounts of blood to trail. I climb back into my stand and grab a PB&J sandwich and contemplate what my next move is going to be. Do I track not because it will be dark very soon, or do I wait and come back in the morning ... ???? .... In the mean time I see a silver pickup coming down the hill where my truck is parked, it sits there for a minute and then backs out. It's now about 6:00 pm and I just happen to look to my left and see something heading my way, I stand up and grab the bino's , are you kidding me, it's the bear I just shot with my arrow still intact. I grab the bow and get ready, this darn bear stops dead in it's tracks at about 25 yrds. and stands up on it's hind legs for me. I let another go and this one sinks almost to the fletchings. And again this bear runs into the ravine. I'm so amped up at this moment I sit down in disbelief, after collecting my things I head to the truck because it's now dark and I'm NOT tracking a bear in the dark by my lonesome with only a bow and handgun. This is what was left of my second shot, just to show what the penetration was ... I was impressed ... I stop to the farm to let the aunt and uncle know what transpired. Before I get anything out uncle Allen goes you shot a bear didn't you ?? Rewind back to that silver truck ... come to find out it was Paul from the neighboring farm, they were chopping corn and watched this same bear come out of the ravine run across the corn piece and run smack dab into a feakin' car and then turn around and run back in the direction it came from ( hence my second shot ). Paul wanted to let uncle aleen know that they were going to try and track the bear, so I went and informed them I had shot it a second time and was going to wait until morning to retrieve it. They also thought that was a wise decision, so we all backed out. I returned the next morning to find this fool bear at the bottom of the ravine and it had gone about 50 yds. and died in the steepest part of the ravine. This is exactly why I hate shooting bears , it took me almost a hour and a half to get that thing out of there by myself ... The Toxic broadheads did there job, come to find out my first shot wasn't as good as I thought, it was right behind the shoulder alright but high and missed every vital organ there was, lucky for me I got a second shot, and didn't have a wounded bear running around. THANK YOU LORD !! We figure she's around 2.5 to 3 yrs. old and dressed out to a healthy 156 lbs. and I even found someone who likes bear meat at the weigh in station to take her off my hands ... :) Here she is ... OK, so I'm finally going to give loose powder a go, my question/s is what Brand to use and what grade. I've been looking at either the Hodgdon Triple 7 or the Blackhorn 209. The next thing is what should I be using in my .50 Cal. TC Triumph ... FFG or FFFG ?? I'm even going to try a new round, I've picked up some Federal Premium 270grn. B.O.R. Lock's. The hype on these are that they are a super great round out to 200 yrds. NOT, that I'm ever intentionally looking to shoot at this distance. I will be looking more at the penetration of this round vs, the Powerbelt Platinum .270 grn. round. Any info or suggestion would be greatly appreciated .... :)

I had a very busy Turkey season this year. Friday 5/6 the Gobblers just weren't playing nice at all, as soon as they hit the ground they would hen up and head off in the opposite direction, go figure huh ?? ... lol. Well at about 10:00 am I have a groups of hens not liking my hen decoys and calling so they work their way to me and my setup, I notice one with a short beard and I decide why not she seems to be a good size, she gets to about 25yrds. and I let the M887 do it's thing and she does the flopping wing dance for me .. She weighed in at 16.5 lbs no spurs and a 3/4" beard. My nephew Dallas calls me that night asking if I would take him on his very first turkey hunt ( very first hunt of any kind I should say ). I told him I absolutely would, but I wouldn't be able to take him until Sunday 5/8 which he was good with . So he meets me at my house at 4:00 am and we head to the farm. Had a friend of mine show up as well, I had Dallas in the blind with me and my friend went about 50 yrds. down from us and sat. It wasn't long and the action started just before daylight (let the Gobbler music begin), we had them gobbling from almost every direction. It was great to see the excitement on my nephews face, it took awhile to get them to commit to the field and the decoys, but with a little calling I got 4 nice jakes to commit and they came in on a string, I got my nephew settled in on them and I then got my shotgun settled in. I let him know which one to settle on, and I picked one out for myself . When they were in range ( 25-30 yrds ) I did the countdown from 3 and we let loose. ( I made one boo-boo and made the mistake of not waiting for them to separate abit before give the go ahead) My nephew knocks 2 down with a single shot and I knocked one down and winged the 4th. one with some stray load. Luckily the bird was so confused it headed right smack into my buddy's spot and he flops that one lucky for me .. PHEW After collecting the birds for a photo op for my nephew, we noticed one of the Jakes my nephew took had a double beard. The birds ranged between 15-18 lbs. Dang, I feel good what a great morning it was, I got to call in birds for my nephews very first ever hunt, I got a bird as well as my buddy ...

Then how is it that this guy in the article ( supposedly a very accomplished hunter ) was able to swap choke tubes between a Remington and a Mossberg ?? And have an article printed and endorsed by Cabela's on TIPS on how to better your experience on picking choke tube and ammo combinations ??
-
-
SOLD
-
The article just seemed odd, I called my nephew who has a Winchester and we tried to trade chokes between his Winchester and my Remington and once again the threading was way different and wouldn't thread right ( not fitting ) so I do call in question the trading of chokes from different manufactures. Unless someone here that knows more about this than me.
-
You hit on it Martin ,,, My dad has a Mossberg and I have a Remington ,,, we tried this way before I read this and guess what, from what I found out is that Remington and Mossberg thread types are different and the choke tubes couldn't be swapped from one manufacturer to the other .. atleast on ours they couldn't be. So is this true ,, that each manufacturer has their own thread type and swapping choke tubes from one to the other wouldn't work ?? or am I wrong on this ??
-
I understand the experiment part of things ,,, but did you pick up on the oddity part of experiment ??? Re-read it again and think about it ... one thing should stand out as odd, or atleast I did ...

I have 6 NEW HP564XL Ink Cartridges for sale. These sell for $25.99 each X6= ( $155.94 ). I would like $125.00 for all 6. That's a BIG savings of $30.

This is something I found to be interesting ,,, I had to read this twice to make sure I read what was written to actually be what I was seeing ... Let's see if you folks pick up on what I saw to be interesting ... Here we go .. " I've shot an HS Undertaker extended choke through my Remington 870 for the past twelve years. Three-inch Winchester Supreme number 5’s are the load of choice. One spring we did an experiment to see how my choke and ammo would perform out of a different gun. My friend brought over his Mossberg 535 and replaced his choke with mine. After shooting several times at various distances, we compared the two. The results were night and day. The Mossberg had roughly 20% less shot in the head and neck area of the target than the Remington. We switched the chokes back and both guns performed much better." Did anyone pick up on what I did ?? If so can this be true ?? Maybe I'm wrong and just learned something ... lol

Don't even get me started with obummers so called affordable health care ... Didn't take long for the household tax credit to become the individual tax credit when it benefited the government. Tammy's health plan tripled because she can no longer use my tax credit towards her healthcare .. DAMN, crooks.
