Ruth, is it the treestalker model?
I have that one. The angle of the leg straps is all wrong on it. It should be angled more towards your hips and give support on the pelvis not in the groin area like it does. You will see in the newer vest, HSS made they made the appropriate changes to the belt positions.
The leg straps should be firm but not too tight. You do not want to jerk too much if you fall, by the vest being too loose. Plus if you do fall you want the tree strap bearing the weight, not the individual straps whipping tight on your legs as you fall. Harness should be tight to the point of stress only being on the tree strap.
I take the excess of the leg strap belts and tuck them in my pockets. I wear my vest on the outside of my clothes so those buckles don't create lumps in my jacket.
