I like dogs, but I don't like dogs in my house. I definitely do not like cleaning up dog crap or its smell and I cannot afford the extra expenses of feeding/vet bills for a dog. Nor do we have the space for one. It is not even a question of criminal activity in my area that has me concerned. It is the level of humanity that does. Last year, one town over; a father and son dragged another father out of his home at the door, and beat him with a baseball bat over one kid scratching the other kids Xbox cd disc game. Imagine that...That has nothing to do with where you live. It is how some people act now a days. Both were apprehended and prosecuted. Not all of us live in a town with a population of 3000 or even 30,000. My sons high school graduating class has just about 1000 students in it. With close to 3500 in just grades 10,11 & 12!. There are just about 400,000 in the county alone. We are by no means a small community. I have an alarm system that we use when we go out and we have never been robbed from or violated in any way. I have been to quite a few Texas homes in the last year or so, and more than a few have had rifles standing up at just about every doorway. Those towns do not have the amount of people in their whole town as I have on my road alone. Do they not live in a safe area? And no...not all of them were ranches that needed rifles at the ready for livestock protection. I asked about the guns at the ready. I was told " what I am I supposed to do when I need it? Go get it or have it ready when I need it?" Hmmm, I thought about it. I do not advocate loaded guns laying around either, the racking of the slide of a .20ga or .12 for that matter is quite intimidating when that noise is heard. But if ammo is not near or at least in the mag...what good is it? Chemicals under the kitchen sink propose more of a hazard for children than a defensive firearm. I do not view the people on this forum, who have posted to this thread as irresponsible types. If anything I think they would have gone above and beyond to make sure incidents do not occur with unguarded guns around the home. I do not live in fear of a fire, but I have a fire extinguishers in key areas around the house also.

I have 2 shotguns readily accessible at all times in the house. One in our master bedroom(nothing in the chambers) and another above the coat closet door(inside) laying on a shelf. My sons are 17,15 and 12 and have been brought up around guns. Kids don't play in my home anymore, and if my young nephews come over everything is secured and possible hazards are removed. Including the knife block on the kitchen counter. I think children should be educated in firearm safety and the big mystery removed. That does not mean you can be careless with guns around the home by any means. All of the other guns are in the safe. Only James Bond and I are getting in there.

Funny you should bring that topic up Leo. Our local paper here has asked "who is planting gardens due to the economy to save money?". Many on that forum were saying how they could not plant due to the varmints and deer decimating their gardens. You bet their attitudes will change when they cannot establish a garden. Hmmmm, maybe I can find a few new places to hunt:p Here, my son Joe cut his teeth nailing chipmonks with the airgun stealing cherry tomatoes, and I cannot tell you how many groundhogs/woodchucks have fell to the arrow in our yard, while in the garden:D. Yesterday I raked and cleaned out our garden spot and spread some fertilizer for the planting season to begin soon.

Mapquest says it is 2hrs 13 mins 119 miles to Hartford. We should get out of here about 10am, and I'm figuring a 2hr drive. Noon looks good. Myself, Michael, Joe N Melissa will be in attendance. The jerky came out awesome;) See ya tomorrow:)

Very Cool Luke. I like it. Now order 500 of them, and put them out at gas stations and local sporting good stores. I think Vermont hunters would scoop them up:).

Great Steve, now if could only get out there and start hunting:D -
Good shot no doubt, but too much can go wrong with the wind at that arrow distance.

You will pay more for precious metal cases(brass), than steel cases. Brass will give you the best performance and the MOST in positive extraction when shooting out of semi autos. The SKS and AK variants were made to fire the steel case stuff. That is all they have in the countries where those guns originated. The price you quoted for the sardine can, is about 25cents per round. That is pretty good for todays ammo prices. This would be blasting ammo I presume? For consistent loadings I would go with USA made brass cases. For blasting, I'd say the steel case stuff is fine. Just get a broken shell extractor:). Steel cases do break...see my other post;).

Ever see the bumper sticker that says " if your not outraged, your not paying attention" That fits totally here. Boy is the public getting it good with this one:(

It was said in the context of, that he did so bad bowling it what like he was....special or disabled. While it may be a joke to call someone named Ed, special when they do something stupid. It most certainly should not come from a person who should be commanding respect from the free world. Should people who have special needs be used a joke punchlines? I think not. That is beyond their control. But what comes out of BHO's mouth is. If Bush said it there would be protests all over. This guy gets away with everything. They always put a spin on it.

Great gobbler there Leo;). Job well done:)
