Re: 05-06 RT Forum Deer Contest - ENTRY THREAD -
Re: TEAM 5 I told ya I was gonna get him... There he was just a hobblin along on 3 legs...gimping...I have been seeing him all bow season. We are just about on the eve of our gun season here in NY. I went out about 10 and about an hour after sitting there, a few does come trotting by with a samll but wide forkhorn glued to the does you know where She stops...he rears up...she takes off...I know that feeling she's playing cat and mouse with this little buck, then they stop an look down the slope. Here comes Grapefruit. He has a grapefruit sized ball on his left rear knee. No doubt from being hit by a car. That causes malformed antlers. Guess thats why his right horn was messed up. I looked at him, knew bow season was just about over...said by all rights, he should be a nice 8. His face was very white and I knew he was an old deer, that on 3 legs was gonna have a rough winter. I felt his back teeth and there were no sharp edges on them, a sign of a old deer. I waited for him to get 20 yards...let out a "BAA" drew and TWAP!!! I broke both front shoulders and right thru the heart. He collapsed right on the spot. Who says expandibles dont open thru bone? Both shoulders were broke!!! Both! I used 100 gr NAP Shockwaves hooked up to a 31" Beman 380-16 shaft, shot out of my 65lb Mathews Outback! What a combo! I did not get a pass thru, but the tip of the broadhead was sticking out the other side Not bad penetration. I really like NON TYPICAL and this fits the bill. This should put us back on top in this thing and keep us there for a while. I still have gun season(buck only) and another doe tag for here Here are the pics.

Re: Antlers I always thought it was Hershey that made chocolate racks! I think its all of the above plus genetics in the deer. Chocolate Racks are way cool!

Re: UNDER ARMOUR ??????? I thought that under armour was a bit expensive. I put my wife on the case...showed her what I wanted and gave her some money and let her go!!! She came back from a store called Kohl's, with thermals that resemble and perform like under armour for 1/3 the price. The stuff was made by Columbia and I have worn it and it did me well. It did not come in Realtree it came in black, but who cares about camo underwear? It kept me warmer than the old waffle type cotton thermals I used to wear... Its gets cold in NY...believe me. Give them undies a look. For $15 for the top and $20 for the bottoms, they are well worth it. Good luck and hunt safe!

Re: Question for Mathews Shooters?????????? I shoot an Outback. Before I got that bow, I shot a 20 year old Bear Whitetail legend. Time for an upgrade huh? My buddy then shot a Q2 and I shot it a few times and liked it. He sold his Q@ and bought an outback with me When I went to look at the Outback at the proshop where I bought it, the bow is VERY well made. I know a bit about CNC machining and milling metal, and when I looked at this bow, I can see that it was made to the highest standards. I also shot the Hoyt, and it wasn't as smooth, and needed alot of vibration stuff to make it as quiet as the Mathews was naked! I got my Outback NEW... for a steal...$565 stripped. The bow fits me right and I shoot it very well, not to mention how fast and small it is...samller bows with less brace height are less forgiving, but that don't seem to be a problem for me. I like that fact of how manuverable in the woods it is when walking due to the short lenth. Mathews also has some great customer service too. AND...It was in Realtree Hardwoods HD! Nuff said!

Re: deer movement - full moon ITs OK folks...The moon should be done with its new one and the deer should go back on regular schedule soon. I also have been seeing deer much more active in the day than at dawn and dusk. Ruts coming to an end in the next week or 2. Good Luck and hunt safe!

Re: Scumb bag strikes again! Don't worry..the great big deer god will see to it that who ever stole it, will not EVER see a deer when hunting out of it. That bites. Good luck this season.

Re: what bow do u shoot? Mathews Outback 65lbs/29"

Re: The three-legged deer Good decision to take that deer. It was gonna be a hard winter on ANY deer that don't have all of what it needs to survive the winter and the yotes. I have been seeing a buck walking on 3 legs also. It has grapefruit sized ball on his left rear knee with a crooked antler on its right side. It has 4 good points on the left side, but that crooked horn on the right. If he gives me another chance to take him I will, if I don't fill my bug tag before friday, the start of the NY season gun opener. I love non typical racks. Injuries to a bucks rear quarter make the antlers grow messed up. Good luck and hunt safe!

what do u guys think are the best tree stands

Re: what do u guys think are the best tree stands I too have the Summit Broadhead Backpacker and Love it! It is very comfortable, easy to set up, quiet, it folds flat to backpack, weighs 22lbs. With the rapid climb stirrups, its just makes a real easy climb. Chair is soo comfortable...I have always shot from a sitting position wit enough clearance to move where ever I need to. Take a good hard look at Summit Stands, I think you'll like 'em too. -
Re: 2005 drop tine buck (pics) Nice story and a great buck too. Did ya get to age him?

Re: new to this forum Welcome to this BB. You'll meet the nice people here. Have a good season and Hunt safe!

Re: Blood Trailing practice... regular peroxide works good for blood trails. Put it in a spray bottle. The peroxide makes the blood foam if there is any, and that makes a easier trail to follow Good Luck and hunt safe!

Re: Professional hunter and an amateur hunter I always thought if you wear the same clothes and shoot the same bow or gun and use ALL the products as the professionals do, then you were a pro yourself I have to agree, if you are some way shape or form getting anything from any sponser or manufacturer in order for them to promote the product(s), that would constitute a professional. Now I think most of us would call a guy who hunts and can't make shots consistently a amatuer...right? Or some other choice words I'm sure....

Re: 10 Year Old With First Deer (pic) Gonna be a tough deer hunting career starting out like that! How do you top that one? Great Buck...congrats!

Re: Dead Monster blacktail Yeah that bites... How big does a blacktail get rack wise? I know they don't get as big as a whitetail. But That blackie looks like it was a 5x5. I think thats a giant in the blacktail world.

Re: question on shot placement? OK... here is the spot that you want to hit. It is callled the "Broncial plexus". That is the bundle of nerves that travel along the spine and group up by the neck right above the heart. You hit a deer there, they will drop in their tracks. In my experience. I hit a nice 8pt that was trotting past me away from my stand. It was a quartering shot that entered about the middle and the bullet worked its way up towards the plexus and he dropped like a pile of bricks. That was a lucky shot for me. I did not know what I was aiming for, just knew I had to hit it good. I posted the pic on another BB to tell about how he dropped, and a game biologist told me that it was a "broncial plexus shot" that made it drop like that. You can see where the bullet entered, and there was NO exit at all. That bullet, wish I could find it , was curled up like nice mushroom at the base of his neck. I used a 30/30 marlin with a 150gr FN Speer grand Slam bullet behind 31grains of H4895. Giving me about 2000fps @ 100yards. This is my favorite deer load, I think you know why . I took this deer back in 01.

Re: Coyotte with a bow Those dogs have some nose and sense of something not right...Thats a big accomplishment to take a yote with a bow. Congrats.

Re: Poacher, I caught you!!! Most people take the same way in to their stand...Put up some paper signs with his pic on it along the trail...give him your message without talking to him and avoid confrontation. I don't like tresspassers or Poachers.
