Fatal-2 non-fatal-30 self inflicted-9 2nd party-23 20 deer hunting accidents 9 turkey hunting I have NYS DEC stats, if you want the whole thing e mail me and I'll send it to ya.. Stats.... 1960's-137 accidents 70's-102 80's-85 90's-66 2000's(only 4 years)-48 The latest year for stats is 2003 and before. Last year there were 2 fatalities in NYS. One was self inflicted and the other was 2nd party from turkey hunting. The ages of the shooters on those 32 accidents. 16-17... 2 accidents 18-23...4 with one fatality 24-29...2 accidents 30-39...7 with one fatality 40-49...6 accidents 50-59...2 accidents 60 and over...2 accidents unknown...7 accidents I'm sure Orange does make a difference in safety, but how come the accidents are going down when orange isn't mandatory? Just being the devils advocate here....

Re: Taking your kid hunting the 1st time I have 3 boys...13,11 and 9. They have all been coming with me to hunt since they can walk. I have a big box blind that I sit in with them. They always used to get antsy and restless. I used to bring coloring books for them if they got bored. Now the big guy more or less hunts on his own(within reason, airgun only). The 11 year old is my project now, the 9 yo could wait a few...he is still somewhat attached to mommy

Re: Saved a fawn pic Last season, a guy I know saved a fawn whose mother was hit by a car. It stood/sat there over its mother. Woody took the deer home, and it became somewhat of a pet. He called the "man"4X but they took their sweet time getting there. Atleast thats what Woody says It was walking in and out of his house, it would bump people from the rear looking for treats. It turned out to be a button buck. The man NEVER came to pick up the deer and one day the deer never came back. Kind of wierd petting a wild deer.

Re: BROADHEAD PROBLEMS Move your rest with the shot...if the shot is going right...move the rest to the right. if its going to the left move it to the left. Always whem adjusting a bow sight or rest..go with it. Are you torquing the bow when you release? Is it slapping your arm? Same weight heads?

Does anyone leave their bow and gear outside or in the garage/shed to keep condensation off and to keep the bow at a constant temp? I have noticed my bow shot differently when I took it out of house before it became acclimated to the temp. I found that out this summer when the bow came out of the air conditioned house. In the fall , its just the opposite, a warm bow coming into the cold. Plus, I don't like water gathering all over my bow from condensation if I can help it. Rain is another story.

Re: carbon arrows and mechanical broadheads I shoot really thin carbon shafts Beman ICS Hunter 380-16's topped with a 100gr Shockwave. Never not had good penetration or complete pass thrus. What you give up in weight with the alu, you make up in velocity with the carbon. Good luck!

Re: Do you wear orange? I have ONLY hunted private property in 21 years hunting. I know where everyone is hunting, near and around me. A stray bullet will kill anyone regardless of what color they are wearing. NY is full of senseless laws, and it is NOT a law in NYS to wear orange, it is encouraged. If I participate in a drive....I wear a orange jacket. Otherwise...full camo and on private property. All within the boundry of the law. I keep tight wraps on my land, so it will be VERY hard for you to get near me and not know it. I don't stalk with a gun...bow yes...gun no. Exercise and stay in shape, how many are soaking wet and inches from a heart attack right before they get to their stand? I know plenty... I'm more worried about my 300lb friend dropping dead from his walk to the stand, than getting shot for not wearing orange. Then again...if I hide behind him..I have no worries!
