i was wondering if any of you have ever had any guided hunts, or have any recommendations on who to look into for the 2007 season.(outfitters) i would like to bowhunt if possible, but would really like to catch the rut.so if i have to muzzleloader hunt i will. also does anyone know a general time of when the ruts starts to kick in in illinois? links would be great.. thanks in advance!!!

Re: CVA OPTIMA users shot a friends gun last sunday(optima). and we shot 4 different sizes of powerbelts with no luck with any. we switched to shockwaves and it drove tacks. so just out of curiosity we switched to a hornaday, and same results as the shockwave. as a personal opinion, i think that powerbelts are far inferior to the old shockwave. its harder to get down the barrell, bet well worth it in accuracy.

Re: rutting in VA!!! man i have some friends that hunt the eastern shore and they said that things are really picking up good. id be safe to say that by friday, it will be pretty good hunting.

Re: rutting in VA!!! well i finally hunted the area again this afternoon. but i hubnted the field edge about 150 yards away.... had two does come out about 30 mins till dark. then with about 5- 10 mins left i see a 4 pointer and a doe come out into the field straight across from me about 80 yards out. the 4 pointer is acting a little funny , then out of nowhetre the big one shows his self again.he chases the little buck away and proceedes to check the does. he didnt cokme any closer than 60 yards, but its the second evening in a row ive seen him in the field. 3 times total. sat our muzzleloader season starts, and im good to 200 yards then, so i hope he keeps up this sam pattern..

Re: T\\C encore- shockwave same here... i shot shockwaves a few years ago, and they were extrememly accurate. then for some reason i switched to powerbelts. i couldnt hit the paper at 100 yds. this year with my new gun i shot them both and my gun loves those sockwaves!. and they make a super glide bullet that shoots virtually the same and are really easy to load.

Re: Got one, but w/ bad news.... lol i shot a 6 pionter sat evening with the sidewinder 3's. . keep looking good. the deer i hit ran about 80 yards, but tried to cirlce back where he came from.. (a cutover). but also look towards water, deer fatally hit will often run towards a creek, river of some sort.

was out last night and it seems like over night the deer sating rutting. we had a cold front move in this week and i thought it would step up te pace, but not like it did! i got to my area about 4:30, a little late and decided to set up in a ditch like bottom, and after i started climbing up, i had a big doe almost run my tree over, but she came in so fast she busted me. so i climbed the rest of the way up, and after i got settled in, i noticed a flat in the hardwoods about 125-150 yards to my right. said to myself i should climb down but its to late... saturday ill be over there...so........ about 45 mins goes by, and i hear a deer running. i see her and then a nother big bodied deer is on her heels. i waited for them to stop running and i grunted at them. the beggr of the two started in for me and i finnally seen him. 20'' wide about an 8 pointer im guessing. but he cant see "the deer" he heard so he turns around to tend to his doe. well i snort wheezed at him and he stops and looks in m direction, them he hammers a sapling with his horns!!. i mean he kills it. but i couldnt get him to leave that doe alone. i watched him chase her for 45 mins on that flat.. i know where i will be sat evening..

revhard replied to 13littleones's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: 5 1/2 year old nocturnal buck..Do I dare enter his wait till you find his scrape line. then come in a couple days in a row during the evening hours and put a dominant buck urine in his scrapes. after a few days of this he will be looking for this "mystery buck" during daylight hours. be ready and make a clean shot! -
