  1. I noticed in another thread someone asking about the S&W Sigma and since I did not want to get the other thread off track I thought I should start a new one. If you are thinking about buying a Sigma...Stop. I am not saying you should not buy one I am only suggesting you shoot one before you buy. I do not own one personally but a friend of mine brought his out to my range a while back and I got a chance to shoot it. It has one of the worst triggers I have ever shot. I have shot pistols with DA triggers before but the sigma is ridiculus. I just wanted to give the heads up to anyone thinking about buying one. As with any Gun/Caliber I believe you should shoot it befor you buy it, when you can.
  2. First off I am not writing off any particular brand. Second I know I am not that great of a shot, but on a regular day I shoot relatively good groups and I can tell when I had a bad hold, put too much pressure on the grip, had a poor pull, etc. I can also tell when I went through my routine the same as the last two or three shots and I end up with a flier. Maybe it is me maybe not. I was simply wondering what seperates a $40.00 box of ammo from a $9.00 dollar box. All of the ammo I have shot recently is the cheap stuff $9.00 to $15.00. Thanks
  3. I have been putting quite a few rounds through my rifle lately trying different brands and weights. I have gotten 3/4" and one 1/2" group but most are around 1 1/4". The one thing I notice the most is how much a round can vary coming out of the same box. I shoot a Remington 700 30-06 and have shot Winchester 150 and 165 gr. Power Points, Remington Core loks 150 and 165 grains, and Federal 150 Grains. I know for maximum accuracy I need to reload, but I won't have a reloaded unitl around this time next year. My question is do the more expensive rounds have tighter quality control than the less expensive rounds. Or are they more expensive because of the bullet type. Thanks,
  4. In about a month or 2 I am going to buy a ruger single action but I cannot decide on a caliber. I was first planning on getting the 45 convertable that shoots 45 lc and 45 acp. But I am open to suggestions on other calibers. Like the .44 or .4I am trying to stay away from a 357 because I am going to buy a double action revolver in a 357. Things to look for. Ammo Price Ammo Options (bullet type, weights etc.) Recoil I would say about 90 -95 % of the time I will be plinking, but I would also like to use it for deer and hogs at around 20 yards no more than 30 yards. And of course I will be at the range to test fire anything before I buy. So..... What do ya think ???
  5. I just bought I Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 and now I need new rings. I was wanting something similar to these. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=164699 or these http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...601620&rid= But I have also been looking at the Burris Signiture series. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=416175 Any suggsetions? I know a lot of people don't lap their rings they just slap a scope in rings and call good, so my question is how inportant is to lap the rings, assumuing they don't have any major burs or anything? Also I did a search looking for the article about scope mounting that used to be on here and I can't seem to find it Thanks,
  6. I have been looking for a new rifle scope for a while now and still am having trouble narrowing the search. I will be going to look at some in person next weekend to check the clarity and such. The two I am planning on looking at are the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 and the Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 I like the parralax adjustment and the warranty on the nikon but I think the burris might be a better quality scope any suggestions.
  7. Re: my deer country, 5 miles in no roads I think it is time for a trip to Utah !!! Why no horses?
  8. I have been working on one of my rifles lately and it is getting time to buy a scope. I am currently looking at a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 or a Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40. Any input as to which one I should lean towards.
  9. Re: Cold Oklahoma Hunt Man that looks awsome!! Everything we've got around Enid and Stillwater is frozen.
  10. A while back someone asked for advice on shooting tables, so now that I finally uploaded some pictures I figured I would show mine off. I built It during the summer and have barely used it since my gun range is very close to my duck hunting pond, but the duck season ends this weekend so it should start seeing some use shortly. The range I have at the farm only goes to 100 yards. I built the table on skids so I can drag it closer, say 50 yards or 25 yards to shoot pistols. The top is 4' X 4' minus the corner that is missing.
  11. Re: layout blinds Here is one of the only pictures I have of the blind set up in the field. It was a very windy day, as you can tell by the FB with its head in the dirt We were hunting over 3.5 dozen decoys that day, this is a picture of the far right hand side.
  12. Here are some pictures from Decmber 3, we were 1 canada goose short of a limit!!! This hunt was during our first snow storm here in Oklahoma as now we are in another I guess it is time to go again This is a picture of what the entire field looked like we were hunting in. Underneath all the snow was a ton of corn. Being that it was a dry year alot of corn fell to the ground and the geese loved it. After the hunt The 2 specs we shot. All the geese lined up up. And Finally a size comparison from a lesser and a greater We Killed 2 greaters 3 lessers and 2 specs, Not a bad day at all.
  13. Re: First Ducks of the Season Great Pics. What happened to that one's head
  14. Re: Goose calling tips Hmm....Where to begin. The flute you bought was probably a primos and if it was on the back of the package it should describe some of the different sounds in the goose vocabulary. That is a start. It sounds like you pretty much have the flute figured out. For the Short reed. As for it sounding too high the more back pressure you use the lower the sound you will get. It is hard to give advice on a short reed except for 1. Practice 2. Practice 3. Practice I would recomend buying one of the many DVD's for learning to blow your call like the HS Goose calling 101 or the Primos mastering the art. I have them both and they are both pretty good. If you are just wanting to kill geese the flute will do fine as they have been killing killing geese for years. But if you are really serious about it pratice alot with short reed and they sound awsome. Hope this helps.
  15. Re: Deer Vs. Bobcat There are a lot of other cool photos just scroll fowards and backwards.
  16. I just ran across this earlier to day. Enjoy http://www.cuddebackdigital.com/pages/pows/week_70.html
  17. Re: More O-ring problems!! I don't think they are being cut because they come out in a number of pieces. The first on was in 2 pieces and the second in about 6. Almost like they are brittle and shattering ?????
  18. Well some of you may remeber my O-ring broke a week or two ago and I had to get another. I finally found a factory replacement and installed it. After I replaced it I went duck hunting and when I got home to clean it the o-ring comes out in about 9 pieces. Now obviously somthing is not right, but what? The gun shot fine the entire day with no problems at all, the only time I noticed something was wrong was when I took it apart to clean it. What should I do, The gun is still under warrenty sinc I only bout it in Aug., but if I send it in I will lose it for a couple of weeks and there isn't that much time left in waterfowl season!!!?? Any Suggestions?
  19. Re: I\'m out of my mind *(Possibly back to College) I am currently a senoir is the Civil Engineering dept. at OSU, and let me tell you I love every minute of it. The hardest part will be getting back into the grove of things and trying to remember stuff you once knew. As for the age aspect some of the older students I know actually do better than a guy would think, they are usually more dedicated and focused. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
  20. Re: Do you just breast them and what recipee? We breast all of our birds. Then we cut them into 1" cubes and let them soak in some sort of brisket or meat marinade. Wrap each one in bacon and put a toothpick through them to hold them together.(make sure and soak the toothpicks in water to prevent burning) Then we put all the little wraps in a folding wire basket and cook them on the grill. Just be sure not to overcook them. This has got to be one of my favorites. If it is the gamey taste you don't like try some "Allergo - Game Tame" It helps take the game tast out. One of my huntin buddies also makes some duck into jerkey and calls it Daffy Taffy, it pretty good too.

Re: A few pics Those are awsome pictures, I love that action shot!!!
  22. Re: More ducks from Oklahoma (Pics) I am from the NW and North Central parts of the state.
  23. Re: 870 Super Mag Express question??? NEVER shoot a slug through anything tighter than modified. An IC is a better choice yet. If you are going to slug hunt with it often consider buying a rifled slug barrel. You will have a longer barrel life, longer range, and be move accurate.
  24. Re: Max 4 been working for me!!!!!!!! Way to go. I also did a little bass fishing opening morning waiting for the sun to come up but it looks like you did better. We haven't seen to many greenheads around so far this year we have had a lot of widgeon and gadwalls though. Keep up the good work!!!
  25. Here are some more pictures from this year so far. Here is a scouting picture from the day before opening morning. This is a 3 man limit from opening weekend in zone 2 (11-04-06) A mix of widgeon, gadwall, ringnecks, and mallards. This is the result of a 4 man limit on 11-09-04 from the same pond. A mix of widgeon, gadwall, ringnecks, and mallards. I took the girlfreind out on 11-12-06 and she took this pics. Later that morning we had a 2 man limit, 10 Widgeon and 2 gadwall. Went out alone on 11-22-06 and had a visit from a blue heron see if you can spot him By 9:00 I had my limit. 2 GW teal, 3 Gadwall and a big greenhead. I hope everyone else is have as good as luck, if not there is suppose to be huge cold front moving through on wed. Hopefully it will bring more geese with it as I am ready to start field hunting Canadas..
