I was thinking about buying a spinnig wing decoy to add some motion to by spread. My problem is I don't want to spend almost $100. Has anyone had any experience with the wind activated spinning wing decoys? or are they all over rated?

Re: aerial photo I use arial photos for my family, I mark all my stands, and trails to them, with a big red dot just incase I do use alot of maps though mostly for waterfowl hunting but they are mosty for locating birds and so I can find my way back to certain spots

I was wondering if anyone puts out both. I did last sat. I was duck hunting, but there are a number of geese that fly over so I added 6 geese floaters to my spread of 2 dozen mallards. The geese where a nice touch (I thought ) because they are big and easy to see far off. Well of the ducks that came in about half seemed to want to land where the geese where, there was plenty of room for the ducks and a pocket in the mallard decoys. I think the geese might have scared them. Does anyone else use both when hunitng or should I stick with one kind of decoy? P.s. I see ducks and geese together on ponds around here, and I was set up in the same manner

Re: Poll for the okies I think it is a good idea. Earlier this year I was hunitng in the panhandle and there are soo many does out there but your only allowed to shoot them with a gun. Plus it might help some of the small bucks that get shot during rifle season just so someone can fill a tag.

Re: Who Hates Rifle Season I don't like because I don't like all the gun shots. I only hunt private land where I am the only one there but listening to everyone else makes me uneasy about being out there. And I couldn't agree more with what jjL7913 said. Plus If I'm not good enough to take a deer with my bow then it doesn't deserve to die. Thats just the way I feel about it.

If you ask me waiting for december to have christmas is waiting too late. By them the majority of hunting season is over so you barely get to use all of your new stuff. Anyways it was just a thought.

Re: Floating shells??? My empties float.

Re: greenhead gear full bodies I totally agree, I have the GHG FB, oversized shells w/ motion stakes and the hot buy mallards. Although I did have a head on one FB break this year and they have only had 1 year of use, but that could have been my fault. Personally I like the shells with motion stakes. Alot more movement and since I don't drive on the fields it makes them easier to get to where I need to be. I made a sled that can hold my 3 dozen dekes, gun, layout blind, and when I get to the field I set the blind up on the sled and it is hidden. And it is soo easy to drag you don't even notice.

Re: It\'s almost that time of year! Just this weekend I've notive a ton more birds in the area. Went out on sunday evening and shot 4 ringnecks off the pond but didn't have anything else come in (no wind). Oh well the season is still young.

Lets talk about HEVI SHOT and HEAVY STEEL
StillLearnin replied to StillLearnin's topic in Waterfowling
Re: Lets talk about HEVI SHOT and HEAVY STEEL I think I have decided to shoot #2 hevi shot this year for geese since our limit is 3 here in Oklahoma so one or two boxes ought to last me the year. As for duck I'll stick with steel shot for now. Win. xpert #2 @ 1550 fps -
Re: STEEL SHOT QUESTION I just bought a case of xpert 3" #2 yesterday. The winchesters seem to pattern through my gun the best of any although I have yet to try the drylocks. Plus the 2's i just bought are 1550 fps and that is what I was looking for...SPEED!

Re: Its time for my yearly tresspassers issue to h I had a guy on my place during our muzzleloader season and am affraid he will be back this sat. since it is the start of ourr gun season. I am posting signs tomorrow and putting the wardens, and sherrifs number in my phone right now. As for your situation keep calling the game warden maybe he will get tired of hearing from you and do something about, or like was said before call the sherrif! -

Well guys its almost time to switch over to waterfowl, I bowhunt until gun season take those two weeks off, because it's not for me, and then start chasin the birds. I was starting to get a little worried because today Nov. 15 is the first day of the year I have worn a jacket. Maybe finally it is starting to get cold. Anyways I started headind out in about 3 weeks, I should have 2 new places to hunt on the river this year one of which is very close to a wildlife refuge. Should be a great year. Anyone In the central flyway got any input on numbers yet?

I heard alot about these new shot shells and have finally talked myself into spending the money. This will be my first year to actively pursue ducks and geese. I've always shot steel #2 for ducks and BB for geese but don't know what shot size to purchase with these new loads. I would like a shot size that I can use for both ducks and geese. What do you all shoot? Also is the HEAVY STEEL worth the money or should I try and stick to HEAVY SHOT, i mean they are both about the same price but one has 25 to a box and has 10. I am open for suggestions.

Well after patterning my gun a couple of weeks ago i decide i need a better choke. I patterned at 30 yards with all three chokes useing 4,2,1,BB,T. I got good 24" patterns with 4's and 1's out to 30 yards but the larger shot sizes just aren't working for me. I like to shoot 2's at ducks and BB or T at geese depending on the day but neither want to pattern well out of my gun. So any suggestions on a choke tube, what would you do?

I was wondering...If you hunt geese over land why are you not allowed to use lead shot? It's more leathal than steel. Cheaper than steel. Obvisously I know it leads to lead poisoning. But the why I see it, it is no more different that hunting quil or pheasant in the same field using lead shot which is legal. I was just curious and figured I was overlooking something, but can someone inform me to what I am missing?

Re: Need Help On Huge Buck! I don't know much about crossbows but unless you hit a shoulder I think you should of had a pass through. I had a similar problem 4 years on the first doe i ever shot she was almost right under neath me my arrow went above the first shoulder and stuck into the second. As for blood I think we found only a few speck that we followed for about 400 yards through the thick stuff. Anyways what I am trying to say is maybe your deer isn't dead. I could be a very real possibility if he isn't layed up in that thicket. I know I thought I had a great shot my doe but now I see that it could have been better cause I saw her crossing a field the next year and to my knowledge she is still alive.

Re: Baiting what do you think? I have a feeder that puts out corn so I guess that means I bait, But you will never see me sitting 20 yards from it. My closest stand to the feeder it about 80 yards. I doens't bother me if others hunt over bait but I just fell like I've cheated the deer the right to a fair chase if I did it. Now for the hogs i'll but corn in my boots if I thought it would help.

It's that time again to start shopping for a new pistol. I currently have a Ruger P-89 stainless 9mm new as of easter but am looking for something a little slimmer and a little lighter. I am currently looking at the new Taurus 24/7 but have noticed on their web site that it is already discontinued and replaced by the 24/7 PRO. So far this is the only gun I have found that I am remotely interested in. I was hoping for some suggestions on other pistols to look into for a round $400. If you guys have any suggestions or comments I'd appreciate them.

One the the places i hunt recently had some boars show up. I have heard from a couple of guys in the area that they are around and that some are really BIG. The guy that is logging on the place said he saw ten almost 2 months ago. I am really looking foward to taking one with my bow but was wandering if there is anything i can do to keep them coming around on a regular basis. Here is the setup: From what I have been told the hogs have been seen just north of my place and as far as 4 miles south. I was planning on seting up a feeder but wasn't sure how long it would take them to find it if they are 4 miles south of me. The place has some thick spots of trees and two good mud holes that look to me like a day spa for hogs. I'm hopping with the feeder they will stay around long enough to end up in the freezer. Any suggestions? What would you do?
