  7. Hey guys, lets decide on a cool name.
  8. Re: Elk Contest ?? Please explain B&C? Do we need an official score sheet, or are we going to trust one another to be accountable? What are the contest rules?
  9. Re: Wyoming elk in a couple weeks Kirk I am familiar with 94. I will assume you are on the western part of the state. You are in good country and should do fine. Trust your outfitter and rely on your insticts and your set. Good Luck. I'll be hunting there in area 94 Oct 1st
  10. Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post) Thanks Dakota
  11. Re: Danner Pronghorns???? Any Danner or Irish Setter boot will not let you down. Lowa is also good. You wont regret the Danners though, just remember the Danners like oil. Keep them oiled and you'll have a friend forever.

  14. Re: Anyone eat these? Working offshoe in the gulf, we set crab traps all the time. We catch quite a few blue or softshell crabs. We use chicken meat from the gally for bait. We boil them just like crawfish. Some good eats right there.
  15. Re: help wanted [ QUOTE ] a normal day is 5am to 4pm, 5 days a week. overtime is extra pay, and you get 10-20 hours a week if you want. it is hard work, outdoors, and can be dangerous if you're not careful. it is not one of the noted "dangerous" jobs. it does take a clean monthly surprise urine test, as most good jobs do. average wage in gillette for good workers is 75,000 a year, and average age is 27. comes with great deer, antelope and elk huntin. and luke, don't blame tammy..... [/ QUOTE ] 5dyas a week? Must be coal bed methane drilling then. I have worked for about 8 years now in a oil field both and land and offshore. Most oil and natural gas rigs work 24/7 so they rotate weeks like that. 1 day and 1 night shift on at a time. The money is about the same as an oilfield though. You seldom hear about oilfield accidents, just like alot of military accidents, they just don't talk about them. I know I had a brother die in a oilfield while we were working for Nabors out by Odessa Texas. I have a cousin that works with me out her right now as a derrik hand and he left both of his thumbs up on a derrik about 3 years ago. You must also not be affraid of heights because derriks and crane shivs get pretty high. Heave lifting is also a requirement. It is always muddy too. Not regular mud either, drilling mud, which can sometimes be worse if it's about the consistancy of cement. I always liked our time off out there though. We have had alot of good times in the camps while working. I enjoy it, I guess thats why I contract myself out to company's like Schlumberger and halliburton every year. Every year when the contracts end I always say it is going to be my last but I just can't quit the money. One day I'm hoping to take a job out there as a company man as thats where the real money is. The rig I'm on right now the company man gets paid 1500.00 per day. Thats not bad for a 14/14 rotation. I worked over this last hitch. So instead of working 14/14 I worked for 28 days and then got my 14 off. here is a picture of the little Bethlahem Jackup rig I'm on right now. We are just reopening old wells in the gulf out of Morgan City LA right now for Kerr Mcgee (work over rig). Any way here is a pic from the helicopter as I was leaving two hitches ago.
  16. Re: Remington Deer Rifles [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] There is a very good reason why our military snipers use a Remington rifle. [/ QUOTE ] This is not exactly true. The M40 and M24 sniper rifles are based on Remington actions, but thats all. Remington's rifles are not even close to that level. I am a Rem 700 fan. I have quite a few of them. They provide a great platform to build a decent shooting gun. Best out of the box...well, I hope you are not laying money on that statement. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with Aj on the laying money comment. I have a Browning A-Bolt that shoots just as good right out of the box as any Remington. I have a Weatherby Mark V that is just as good, if not a little better than those. These are all producion guns. I don't own a new savage, just a few older model 99's but I believe most production guns can shoot great groups. I do like Remington though.

  21. I thought that you might get a KICK out of this video. It's a 600 Nitro Express in a pistol. Very practical, wouldn't you agree? http://home.comcast.net/~kudoo3/John_shooting_600_nitro.MOV

  23. Re: How hard is it to mount a deer head. If you have an attention to detail ,patience and time i would suppose you could get it done. Hardest part would be finding a tannery that will take your cape and all. I would guess for most of us it would be easier to just use a professional taxi. Why would you want to chance it too if it is a good enough animal to mount?
  24. OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP)-A fierce group of raccoons in a west end neighborhood has killed 10 cats, attacked a small dog and bitten at least one pet owner who had to get rabies shots, area residents say. Some have taken to carrying pepper spray to ward off the masked marauders and the woman who was bitten now carries an iron pipe when she goes outside at night. "It's a new breed," said Tamara Keeton, who with Kari Hall started a raccoon watch after an emotion- al neighborhood meeting drew 40 people. "They're urban raccoons, and they're not afraid.".........
