  1. Here's my buddy's 1st ever deer. 3rd day of the NY season he bagged this nice buck with his girlfriend's .270. Needless to say he was easily persuaded to take this cape to the taxidermist to make his first buck memories a coversation piece for the family room.
  2. Nice buck, can't eat the antlers I say. I'm glad to see NYrs having some luck being from there myself. 1st time Ive missed a season in 12 years. Congrats and looks like the kids are enjoying him as well.
  3. Well you forgot all that detail so your little story leads me to believe you made it a miserable experience. As for recuiting others..... anytime you can introduce a new person to the sport we enjoy, its RECRUITING!!!! wether you meant to or not thats what we all try to do so our sport doesn't die out.
  4. I recently moved to SW Illinois, Scott Air Force Base, and am looking for a good place to hunt ducks and geese. Public hunting is prolly my only option.
  5. Well that suck for you. Maybe if you would have tried making it enjoyable then she wouldn't have had a bad time. I on the other hand enjoy spending time with my fiance..... she hunts and helps hang stands. So maybe your gf isn't the outdoorsie type but making the experience horrible for her wasn't a nice move. Good luck it your realationship.
  6. Just checking the status of the birds here in NY. I haven't had time to get out and scout yet and season is a week away. will be goin out in the evenings to try and pinpoint a few big boys. Anybody been hearing them and seeing strutting?
  7. Ive seen some doe dogging here but not alot, yet. I did see a 6 pt chasing a doe last weekend past my stand, boy was he tired. lol. hoping things pick up soon.
  8. I blew my shot at a 6pt this morning. had him coming in at 10 yards, finger on the trigger, i turned went to squeez and it slipped off. he ran off to 60 yrds and circled my stand and continued up the hill. The good thing is he was dogging does so i'll put out some #69 and try and get him back. The gloves i was wearing got thrown from the stand and are not going back into my bag.
  9. They want $375 for it, slug and shot barrels and red dot scope.
  10. Anybody own a Mossberg 935 semi-auto? I found a smokin deal on a cobo unit but not sure if worth buying. I own an 835 and love it. Some input would be valuble

    scent?

What scent do you recomend for luring in bucks? I've used Tinks 69 but no success for the past few years.
  12. Anybody ever try the Buck Bomb lures? I have limited time to hunt and from what I read they work good but want some REAL WORLD input before I spend $$ on a one shot lure.
  13. Well... Opening day in NY was a mess. Heavy snows the other day weighted the trees down and it started raining. So all the slush was falling off them all darn day, not to mention it was foggy thins morn. But spirits are up cause its just opening day. Hoping to see one of the two brutes who leark in the area.
  14. I'm shooting a PSE Beast, not sure on age but think bout 6-8 years old, I bought second hand but still shoots like the day it was born.
  15. I knew it was going to be blowing pretty hard this morn but just had to get out. I went where i roosted one the other nite and everything looked good. But when it got light, he sounded off on the other side of the hill on POSTED land. I called to him for a little over an hour but nothing. When the winds started to increase I decided to pack it in and try again on Monday morn. Its gonna be cool but I found alot of sign and if the wind goes away I think they will return. So I'm being optomistic but it's all I got right now.
  16. Don't know what is going on but the birds were hot and gobbling on the roost a week ago, but know their beaks are glued shut. Been out every nite listening for a gobble. Nothing. Talked to some other hunters who are having the sae problem. I really don't know what to do but I'm starting to get discouraged already.
  17. Heard a bird gobble 3 tims last nite. Isn't it early? They may just be sorting out pecking order though
  18. Been checking out the Primos tight wad and Jelly Head chokes and would like to hear about what you think about them, good and bad. I'm shooting a Mossburg 835.
  19. A can of optimizm, because the birds might not do what I want or expect.
  20. I bought a NEF handi rifle in .204 with bull barrel for a little over $200. Now thay are going for $275 or so. Nice gun and great shooting. Highly recomend this brand of gun.
  21. About 1/ mile, but it was down hill with a foot of snow. The hardest part was keeping the dead deer from dragging my buddy and I down the hill.
  22. Anybody seen Blake Shelton on Realtree Roadtrips or Gettin Close? boy is that man hilarious. He can do it with a straight face and everything. Wouldn't mind hangin with him someday.

    What Movie is it?

Red Dawn is correct. have to agree it is one of my favorites as well
  24. What's your most versatile piece of hunting equip/gear? Mine would have to be my turkey vest. Although made for turkey hunting, I use it for everything from turkey, deer, small game and hiking. You can fit a variety of thing in the call specific pockets and the seat is really the best reason I use it year round.
  25. Here are the highlites of my season. since nov 15 to this date i have seen 5 deer, 1doe w/ 1fawn, 1 deer sneaking below my stand(all i saw were legs), and 2 doe today. I went out all day and seen nothing, came home and looked out the window and here come 2 accross the field to the corn. So i grabbed the slug gun and snunk down to 70 yrds and shot. turns out i missed about 6 in low, go figure the way my season has been going. How's everyone else's season going?
