Must have been a great show. I like the way you wrote your about your hunt, ever thought about writing for a magazine? Congrats on the bird too.

The Federal and Win. supreme are No. 5 and the Win. super X is No. 4. I don't have any more time to pattern so should i buy a box of No. 6 and use it? Also should I consider the 3.5" shells?
-
I' was out patterning my new 835 and it seems to be inconsistent. I tried 3 differant shells, Federal, Win, supreme, and Win. super X, all 3", 1.75 oz shot. These are the results: Federal 30 yrds 20 hits in kill zone Win. Supreme 30 yrds 13 hits in kill zone Win. Super X 30 yrds 12 hits in kill zone Keep in mind this s a 12 ga with factory choke. Are these bad results or normal because I wont dare shoot over 30yrds with this gun. My 870 Remington puts 30 - 35 hits in kill zone at 30 yrds with the same shells. Any input or help is greatly appreciated.

I've got a 2007 Can-Am Outlander 500 EFI. has all the power I need and more and goes anywhere. It cost allitle more than the competition, but it's power and super smoooth ride is worth it. The 400 is now available in carburated and/ or Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI). all depends on what you need and want and can afford. good luck. If you buy used, check it out real well, look for mechanical damage. It'll save you in the long run.

Sounds like you have a smooth bore barrel. for accuracy, buy rifled slugs, don't waste you money on sabot slugs. They won't be neerly as accurate as the rifled. Also get an improved cylinder choke tube. If you want to shoot sabots, buy a rifled choke tube.

I'm looking to buy an E-Call for yote hunting and need some help. I don't want to spend alot ($150 or less) because I don't know if I'm gonna like it. Would like some ideas of calls and how they work for you please.

I bought a N.E.F Handi Rifle in .204 and love it. Shot chucks this year with it and discovered it was a better choice than a .223. ( my brother has the .223 version and it too shoots great). Would recommend it for any varmint shooter.

Just kidding about the photo shop thing. truly a remarkable deer.

Looks like somebody used a little bit of photo shop. I killed that buck 2 years ago. Mine had more mass though. TAht's a great buck, but I agree with Andrea, he needs to be sporting a big cheezy grin. congrats.

The opening morning looked promising after seeing 2 doe after arriving in stand. had a couple of morons walk up on me early and they quickly made themselves scarce. bout 8:30 I seen a buck walk into the thicket above my stand and then dissappear. at about 9:30 one of the previos morons circled my stand, right into the thicket i watched the buck go into. then his partner came up behind me, running, whistling, and yelling " BOB over here". by then i was shaking with anger. they hung out for bout 5 min. and circled me again before hiding under a pine tree 45 yrds behind my stand. I got fed up and dicided to pack up and head out. After attatching the hiost rope to my gun, i started lowering it. I looked up and seen a nice buck stick his head out of the thicket so i shouldered my gun and squeezed off a quartering to shot through the front shoulder. I watched him run down the hill and start to drop and knew i had a kill shot. While climbing down, i noticed the 2 guys hiding. the nice 6 pt dropped 40 yrds away. all together it was a foiled hunt prettymuch from the start, but luck was on my side. (" I'd rather be luckey than good anyday") Mark and Terry Drury.

I took a 6 pt on opening morning. In wny where I live, i'v seen one trophy buck ( 8 pt) and 5 small buck ( 4,5,6 pt). odds of me killing that trophy with all the other public land hunters around is slim to none. I take what i can get around here and it ain't easy. so I guess waht I'm trying to say is only you can decide what is good for you, despite what everyone else tells you. Shoot whatever makes you happy.

I'm going to do some quick deer activity scouting this weekend while turkey hunting. Been seing 8 birds working a field daily and seen them from my bow stand on the hillside above the field. Figured I might as well try and get one as long as I'm gonna be out there looking for a good place for the upcomming gun opener. With any luck I'll be postin some pics for you all to see.

Got my first archery buck on 10-29. it's a nice deer 2 - 2-1/2 yr old. had bad ginetics, 7 pt but it was really small 8" inside spread. good buck for a first. i got it in an apple orchard i hunt . it was a 25 yrd shot and i thought i missed, but after finding my arrow i realized it wasn't. i watched him run out of sight and after following a poor bloodtrail at first, he started duping out after bout 45 yrds and crashed at bout 55 yrds over a creek bank. i kinda wanted to hunt the rut but couldn't pass this up for a first. try to post pics soon.

what's the best height to hang a stand at? i've been putting them at 14 - 17 ft, is that a good level or should I go higher? keep in mind I don't like to get really high.

This year I ended up with a dissapointing season and 2 empty tags. Season started great, but quickly went sour with toms henning up early and staying that way all season. No matter what I did and tried it didn't work. To sum it up in a few words, "this season was truely one for the birds". Time to get in gear for bow season. How did everyone else make out?
-
How Are the rest of you New Yorkers doing this season? Round has been pretty quiet for me and many others. Birds were going youth weekend and opening day, but have since gone silent. Most likely due to being henned up, maybe a little skittish after being shot at on 5/1. Anybody got any hints or tips for an attempt to harvest a bird in this state? If so I'd appreciate some help.
-
The silence continues. I got on a bird sat morn, he was shocking at crows and owls and gobbling on his own but would not answer my calls. After bout an hour, I backed off and let him be, listening to him as I left. Don't understand it. I was 200 - 250 yrds out and he wouldn't answer me. I had no choice but to back off cause I couldn't move in on him cause the woods open up to a thin treed flat atop the hill and I didn't want to spook him. Went in there this morn within 75 yrds of his roost on saturday and all was quiet. No sign of him at all. In fact I didn't here a thing, no hens, gobbles or even fly downs. Don't they usually roost in the same area??? Oh well still got 1/2 the season to go.
-
Yeah, I don't know what is going on with them. A week before season they were gobbling good, now a week into the season they are all quiet. Talked to a guy today, he said he seen a flock of 9 hens. I seen a flock of 7 or 8 jakes and toms opening day. I think they are behind schedule cause the cold and snow in late April. Hope things get better soon ( can't possibly get worse).
-
Don't know what to tell ya. I'm having the same problem here in SWNY. birds gobbled first day but have only heard 2 birds since then. hoping they are just allitle behind cause the cold weather.
-
Season started out great. Birds were gobbling on roost at night and in the morning. Opening day my brother missed a tom, he was in a group of 8 birds. I don't know if they will come in again. Ever since then I've heard one bird yesterday and nothing today. No gobbling at night either. Anybody have thes problems? I could use a little input on what might be going on. And after shooting at the birds, will they be messed up for the season?
