Well, as most of you know I had William up in Wisconsin for about a week of bowhunting. That man hunted his butt off and if anyone deserved a nice buck, it would be him. I'm a little hesitant to even post this as I feel bad for him. I actually had a really good week with multiple sightings of some truly great bucks. William on the other hand seemed to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I tried my best to put him in the right stands but, it seemed they always came to where I was. I'd sit in the exact same spots he did every year given the same conditions. (wind direction and lots of corn standing yet) Everything was a little different this year than normal. The big bucks weren't running the river bottom and they never started running the ridge until the last day of his hunt.
Anyways, the last day of his hunt my buddy Mike had seen 10 different bucks and 5 of them ran the ridge so I told William to go sit in his favorite little pine tree, () and I'd go down to the river bottom while Mike sat on the food plot. We kinda had the entire area blocked off and one of us would probably get a chance at a nice buck.
At 1:30 we headed to the stands and it was HOT, I think it hit 72 degrees that day. My stand was in the direct sun and I decided to curl up to the tree and get a little nap in. (it had been a long week LOL) At about 3pm I heard some brush snapping and a couple of grunts and this buck steps out at about 50 yards. He must have been bedded right there! He started heading my way and I eased back the Bone Collector Alphamax and got ready for a shot. By the time he turned completely broadside my top limb hit the leaning tree I was in and I had to let down. I carefully brought my bow to the other side of the tree and my buddy Mike let out a grunt call, stopping the buck perfectly at about 15 yards. I put the pin on him and sent the Rage tipped Carbon Express towards his heart. Thwack!! The arrow struck home and the buck made it about 50 yards and took a dirt nap. Mind you, William was watching this as it happened. Sorry Buddy...
Not the biggest buck in the woods but a good one, none the less...
