Don't rely on what you see on TV. A friend of mine was going to do some video shooting for a well known tv outfit. He asked me if I would like to come along...only thing you had to "use" a certain brand of bow. He said no problem you shoot your bow and after we video the kill I will hand my "sponsor bow" up to you and shoot a little video of you "taking the shot" with it. This is the reality of TV hunting...whoever is willing to sponsor the show is that hunters favorite bow. My advice is to go out and shoot a couple and get what you like. You don't need to spend a paycheck to get a bow that will kill a deer dead.

That is a good point. However, you put your arrow where it needs to go and it is lights out.

fljgilner I think that it really isn't your setup or your broadhead. That head will make deer DOA is the shot is in the right location. Deer have an amazing will to live and are tough creatures. You hit a shoulder blade and get partial penetration and the deer will likely live...even if you get a little of one lung. Blood coagulates in that hole closes up and eventually they heal up. Moral of the story is to try to get your shot a few more inches back...but sometimes they just get away...thats why the call it hunting.

House cat or coon.

I like the newer Primos grunt/snort wheez combo.

Threatening to kill you b/c you took an earlier flight? That doesn't make any sense at all. Couldn't find this guy on the web but it would be interesting to hear his side of the story. I know my buddy went to an indian reservation in Canada and he said the indians just drop you off and pick up. But it is also $700 bucks for a big skat bucks were his whole party tagged out. Maybe your exptectations were off of what you were paying for.

Not sure if you read this post that I put up a few weeks ago. http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90221

We open up Oct. 1. I am not shooting anything that doesn't have giant antlers until it cools down. Not worth messing with em in the heat.

I shoot a PSE right now... the x-force. If I had to choose I would go back with a Hoyt. However, any bow you buy right now will be light years ahead of what you were shooting 15-years ago. My boy ended up costing about $1000 with all the bells and whistle a few years back. However, a $300 bear will kill deer just as dead. I agree with Dakota that the grips on PSE are very thin and I don't like that. What I do like about my bow is that is extremly fast and quit. If you want high end go with Mathew, Hoyt or PSE in any order. If you want to kill deer then just go pick out a more economical model and make sure you like how it shoots. Good luck and happy hunting.

What kind of squirrels do you all hunt?

Awsome!!! They have one over at Cabela's that someone caught in Alton...it is around 95 lbs. Love to go watch it in the tank...sometimes it eats whole live bluegill and crappie. I bet you had fun reelling those in.

That's right...one of those steak places...it is pretty good place...we eat there when we go to the Mills. -
Don't they tie'em to a tree for you there? LOL. I wouldn't qualify that as an IL deer....who knows where they bought those deer at.

Maybe I will take you up...I live about 30 minutes away and work just 10-minutes from there. However, I will probably be up in a tree most the day...unless I have two bucks by then...if so I will come see you. It would be fun to meet some RT members in person. A good idea for lunch is the Trailhead over in Historic St. Charles. Its about 10-minutes from Cabela's via I-370...otherwise there is a steak-n-shake and a LoneStare right across the street. Good luck. -
Where did you go in Mo for that? Where did you get the mount done?

My wife hates hunting!! She also hates watching football, drinking beers, smoking cigs & and chasing women. All things I love. Thank God that the sexes are different.

Get after'em!!! Do you have any video of taking that big one?

Also...we once had a deer stolen out of the tree while we were sleeping in our cabin at Jim Edgar Panther Creek. It was a doe that my buddy shot. However, the coward also stole my stainless steal heavy duty gambrial. If anyone sees that gambrial let me know. I am 99% sure I know who the guy was who did the theiving...he was in our camp that night and was the only one that knew the deer was hanging in the tree.

On most public land in IL you can put up and leave a ladderstand so long as you have it marked with your name and phone number. Look...this sucks but there is really no way he knew that you picked this spot. For all you know he had his stand up in that tree last year and killed a dandy buck out of it. Let him be and pick a different spot...don't go urinate or mess up the location b/c that is just not what hunters do. If everone got ticked off from getting walked in on on public land now one would ever kill a deer. I have hunted some public land in IL. Mazatene Island, Jim Edgar, Shawnee National Forest. My advice is to "hunt the hunter." These are extremely educated deer. Use other hunters and the wind to figure out where to sit. If you think this is a great spot then get in earlier and figure out where the smart bucks will go to avoid the guy...then you got a plan to get a giant buck on public land. Good luck.

I am not positive he will make it. My brother will shoot him and so will the neihbor kid. I wouldn't mind it if either of them took him b/c he will net P&Y. I don't like his lack of mass and think that next year he will be around. I think he is 2.5 but maybe I am wrong...he is pretty wide but those spindly antlers are a give away and his body looks alot differnt than the big eight that I mentioned he was running with. There is the big 8 and a 14 point that no one killed last year...plus likely of couple good deer that no one has seen. Don't have any pics of them but they are around. Hopefully I will hook up with one of them and this guy will live another year.

Great picture. Cool how the sunlight is beaming thru the clouds. Enter it and see what happens. Is it a realtree contest?

Warren Buffet Bill Clinton The google guys.

This is a 2.5 year old buck. That is why he has so little mass. Next year he will be hard to pass up. But the real pay off will be in 2 years. However, if he gets out of my honeyhole too much someone will pop him during gun season or with bow...I guarunttee it. Most deer in my area don't make it past this phase. However, a few that are taught once are twice learn how to be survivors and keep away from hunters. But I don't blame anyone for taking him...he would make a good wallmount if you would have him.
