  1. I just traded up in bows and my bow guy, who I really don't trust because he always is trying to get you to buy something, says I need to change arrows. I am now shooting the X-force Vendetta XL 35 in axel to axel with a 29 in draw set at 60 lbs. My old arrows are 340 beman ics hunters with a grain per inch of 9.3. He wants me to switch to 200 radial weaves that have a gpi of 7.5. He says that my old ones are too heavy and stiff a spine when they shot perfectly with my old parker spitfire which shot no where near as fast as this new bow. Should I go with what he says?
  2. Worse possible luck cont. PICS!! Here's the sheds that I missed. He said he measured it at 201 don't know it that's the real score though. 3 in coaster for reference
  3. I have had some pretty bad luck in my life which I get from my dad especially when it comes to deer hunting. Turns out that this weekend would be the summary of my life as far as bad luck is concerned. I went home this weekend to shed hunt for the first time this year. All the snow that we got from Thurs night had melted away Fri here at Macomb. I drove home near jacksonville IL and they still have 2 in of snow making it dang hard and worthless Sat to go shed hunting but I go anyways with no luck. Finally though the night it rains and melts all of the snow. My two youngest sisters who are 9 today, her birthday, and 12 decide they want to shed hunt with me for the first time with my dad and Parkergirl. We go to a 50 acre patch of timber that produces about a dozen sheds every year. Instead of doing my usual pattern and starting on the far NW corner of the timber I started on the SW. I did this because of my sisters and I would have had to walk in a very muddy field to get to that corner. We walk about half of the brushy timber and my sisters are ready to go home because they are tired and it is thundering and lightning. I reluctantly say ok but not before I take the 4 wheeler for a pass on the NW corner which is where I have had the most luck in the past. I stop where there is this 1 foot creek and head home because at this point it is starting to rain and they want to go home. I wake up this morning back at school from a close friend that works as a janitor at the high school and he tells me I screwed up yesterday badly shed hunting. I kid went out for the first time yesterday and found a match set of a 12 pt with 15 in tines:jaw:. This deer is supposed to score 200 so he says because he got to see them because the kid brought them to school. Worse part is is that he found them not 15 yrds way on the other side of the little creek were I stopped. Even worse this is the same kid that we chased off our land last spring for turkey hunting with no permission. He had permission to shed hunt the property where the antlers were found but it doesn't make me feel any better. How is that for luck:hammer2::hammer2::hammer2::hammer2: I had to blow some steam off thanks for listening I don't have pictures but if get some I will post them
  4. Normally I'm pretty skeptical when people say that but I aggree that they are the same deer based on his kicker on the base. Congrats on finding his match sets for three yrs its hard enough finding just one let alone all three.
  5. Nice set. What state did you find them in?

    HHA

Does anyone shoot an HHA sight? I am thinking about trading in bows and upgrading sights and I'm thinking about buying a HHA sight. I have had a little problem out in the field and I'm pretty sure it just because I use the wrong pin. To get rid of this problem I want to move to a single pin sight. I don't want a pendualum site or a 1 pin fixed sight because I want to shoot farther that a 1 pin will let me. Just wanted some feed back on what everyone thought of them. Worse come to worse I'll buy a multi pin sight.
  7. Found out that I was awarded the land of lincoln scholarship from the NWTF. Since I'm a senior I was awarded 1K which will be going to grad school. If anyone is attending the NWTF state banquet for Illinois which is Jan 9 i think but cant remember, in Springfield illinois stop by and say hello. This is when I am supposed to get the check. Now Im just waiting to hear back from Western Illinois University saying I have been accepted to their grad program so I can put the money to use.:hammer2: Nothing like getting in debt even more lol Happy holidays Jared
  8. I forgot to add that the two that I found were both females
  9. That's where where my parents live. Where about are you hunting out of curiosity.
  10. I'll try to keep the story short. This past Saturday I went out to what my family calls the "big oak" stand. It is on the corner of a picked bean field and is right next to the thickest part of our timber. Nothing was moving until there was about 15 min left of shooting light. All of a sudden a whole pack of coyotes 10-12 cut loose not over 70-80 yards away. I gave my best rabbit squawk on my hand using my mouth that I could and sure enough here came a yote on the bean field from the brush. It gave me a perfect 30 yard shot and then I let it have it. It gave a yelp and then ran directly under my stand and expired. Then the whole pact ran over toward my direction to investigate. There were heading out of my location so I called again and they made a bee-line straight for me. I picked out another yote and let it have it. Then I knocked another arrow and let a third one listen to some string music. After that I couldn't shoot anymore because it got too dark to see my pins. So I yelled to scare the rest of the pack so I could climb down. Problem was they wouldn't leave. Instead they were growling, barking, and fighting each other. There was no way that you could have made me climb out of the stand. I had to call a buddy t to drive his truck to my stand so that way I could get out. We found two of the yotes easily but then the pack started to come back before we even had time to look for the third. So we got out of there since they were being so aggressive. Does anyone have any clue as to why they were acting this way??? The only reason I could think of is that there was 3 other pack howling at the same time all within 600-700 yard of my location, and they thought that they were being attacked by another pack. Here is a pic of the two that I found.
  11. So far this year we only have one shooter on camera, even though there are several more in the area. On all of our farms we have a minimum cut off of 140 inches. This is the most recent off of the farm right behind my house. This is the biggest deer that we have on camera here but I don't think that he makes the 140 cut. Do you think that he will make the cut???? If he is an 8 pt we have decided to let him walk because we don't think he will make the cut of but we cant tell for sure.
  12. Thanks for the imput. After discussing it all weekend I think that we have come to the same conclusion that the first one needs to be passed up and the second taken out because of bad genetics.
  13. We have two more potential deer on the camera. I personally will not shoot either of these deer but I think that I'm going to have parkergirl pass up on the first since he has the most potential and have here take the second one. While he is wider I don't believe that he has near the potential as the second.
  14. Here is a couple of photos that I have got over the summer so far. Any shooters??? So far we have decided to only take the droptime buck.
  15. Gotta love the colors of Merriam I hope some day to go out west and get one of those white tail feathers
  16. Congrats Kyle...as soon as you start making the big bucks you can lend me a poor college kid some :hammer1:
  17. Congrats on the bird. It will make a great mothers day meal.
  18. I did not mean that the feathers themselves are a disease. I meant that domestic birds catch and spread diseases like wild fire.
  19. Maybe instead of 300 gobbles as the title I should have change it to "Illinois Chain Saw Massacre" and started it out like... Today a most fortunate incident too place out in the boonies. Twelve poor defenseless saplings and two long beards were cut down today:hammer1::hammer1::hammer1: Sorry I'm bored from studying and I have a bad sense of humor:jaw:
