That's really cool - and just what I needed today! Thanks for posting it.

First of all, welcome to the forums! That's great that you're introducing your girlfriend to hunting and that she's enjoying it. Same thing happened with me and my husband when we were dating! I shoot a Parker bow and love it. I'm not the biggest person in the world, and by pulling 50 pounds I have still been successful in hunting with it. We started by setting me up with the usual pin site, and a few years ago I switched to a single red illuminated type of site where you keep both eyes open. Weird, but I shoot better than I did with the pins. No peep. In other words, I recommend keeping her bow simple and streamlined. After she's shot a few years she can add bells and whistles if she wants, but I think simple is better. Good luck and most of all, enjoy that special time together out there in the great outdoors! Yikes! I didn't know that. . . please don't think that I was trying to advocate being a law-breaker!!! Congrats on the buck. . . good luck with whatever you do tonight and just enjoy being out there!

If life ends at 35, then I've been dead for the past 6 years. And to think that I thought the chill in my bones was simply from hunting in the cold so much lately. I'd better check my pulse.

First of all, a big "yeah!" for getting that homework done and out of the way for hunting! Second, my vote is for option 3. Add a little pile of something yummy to get them interested in stopping and staying a while, and hopefully a nice buck will follow the doe right into a shooting lane. As for getting cold, layer up and know that when the hunt is over, you can go home to hot cocoa!

Thanks, Joe, for the supporting words on my choosing to pass any shot attempt on that buck. How I wish that there would have been an open lane. . . Thanks, also, for the advice. Truth be told, my husband kindly set up an old homemade stand for me on the state land close to the cornfield yesterday morning. I was home with our daughter when he did this. I walked to the stand yesterday for an evening hunt, only to discover that my husband has FAR more confidence in my climbing abilities than I do! He put the stand WAY up in a white pine and thought that I would be able to shimmy my way up without issue. I tried, but it just wasn't in the cards! (We hesitate to put up a stand or ladder worth anything on state land. . . too many thiefs out there, sad to say). I sat on the ground then to just observe the nearby field and didn't see one thing, but they're surely out there, as we saw scrape after scrape. I told him to go ahead and hunt that stand. At least one of us should make use of what is surely an awesome spot for activity! Problem is, he insists that I shoot one before he sits. Guess I'd better learn to climb quick or hope that my 10-point wanders through again by my stand!

Frustrated How is everyone doing? I have been hunting pretty hard this past week. I have some days off of work, and my husband has been going into work late to take care of the kids so I can put in some serious time. (I love that man!) This morning, I was late getting up in the stand and made enough noise to sink a ship. My bow string was all caught up in a nearby tree, so by the time I was all set to shoot it was 10 minutes before sunrise. I almost just got down and said forget it! Well, 10 minutes before I was planning on climbing down from my morning hunt, a gorgeous 10-point cruised by within 25 yards of me. Complete bummer is that there was never a secure shot opportunity. His walking route was exactly in the one place that has the most scrap brush and twigs. I wasn't about to go flinging arrows out of desperation, either. So, I'll just keep on keeping on and hope to see him again. What would any of you have done - try grunting or bleating or just let him do his thing? It's really been frustrating, though, as I've not seen nearly the deer that we have in the past. The state put in a huge corn field down the road this year for the first time, and I think that maybe the deer are too happy with that to wander much. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone else, and I'll keep you posted on the one that got away!

That quote is both funny and true! I work two 10-hour shifts a week (plus occasional night and weekend call), so I can't complain too much with having those five days that I'm not at work! All said and done, I honestly do enjoy my profession. There are certainly those days, though, were I instantly start looking for that light at the end of the tunnel!

Enjoy your special day, Andrea! And remember, "well behaved women rarely make history"!

Say it isn't so! . . . I was on a roll for a change as one of the top scores last week. . . and that game between undefeated teams alone is reason enough to not skip this week! I say post the games and see how many of us come through with picks by the end of the day. If not enough post, then call it off this week. If enough do, then go with it!

Have a great birthday, Scott!

Thanks for the kind comment about my little buddies! As for where I am in the photos . . . as chief family photographer, I'm rarely actually in any photos or movies. The kids will look back at albums years from now and have no visual proof that their mother ever existed. As for my husband's head . . . he is the headless horseman. Just in time for Halloween. And as for the HUGE nearly TRUE-TO-LIFE SIZE of my posted pictures. . . I'm learning! Next time I'll resize before posting!

A few pictures from our fall camping trip to Ludington, Michigan that I thought I'd share. I posted it in the women and hunting forum because I figured that the ladies and fellow mothers would most appreciate the pics of my kids. As you all know, they are tops among God's most precious gifts. It was a weekend in early October that was so warm it was almost like summer camping (complete with swimming) except for the salmon my husband caught by wading out and casting from the shore! Also, this is my first "real" photo posting. . . hope I did it right! Thanks to Joe (Squirrelhunter91) and Andrea for helping me out with photobucket. PS - In the bottom photo our son was as proud as punch with the fish Daddy caught, and our daughter (who was also quite proud) nearly "tossed her cookies" from the smell!

Plain and simple, there is something psychologically not right with the person who wrote what you quoted. For anyone to wish a child a painful death, there has got to be more going on with that sad excuse for a person than meets the eye. People are allowed to have their opinions on hunting, but to bash an innocent and dying child is sickening.

Congratulations, Joe! You and Curvy look great together. Score a big one for "TeamGottaGetAName"!!!!! Laura

Now, can you imagine walking out into the woods in the dark and running into one of those?! Kind of makes having a spiderweb brush across your face sound tame. That is just nasty!!!
-
Amen to that! I thank God for the gift of my best buddy and the love of my life, my husband. Together, we are further blessed with two beautiful, healthy, sweet and flat-out fun children! I take nothing for granted and know full well just how precious life and our time together are. And it's a life that I love. Marriage is all that and so much more. Laura

Congrats! That's great. I hope to do the same this fall. Hope I'm as lucky (and skilled) as you were!!!

Agree, hence the line in my original note "Both require the effort and energy of two". It definitely takes two to tango. Or tangle, as the case may be.
-
Whatever it is or isn't is up to you and your spouse. If you want it to be miserable, it will be. If you want it to be awesome, it will be. Both require the effort and energy of two - how you spend that energy is up to you.

I'm here! Team "HA" for "Hunters Anonymous" since no one wants to give up a name! Team "GottaGetAName" beats "GottaGetMeSome" . . . unless you add "Deer" to the end of it.
