  1. In a recent thread i asked a question pertaining to a video clip and it got blown way out of proportion. I would like everyone to know that i was merely asking a simple question and not trying to imply or call anyone out. I do not come to this forum to ridicule or bash people, I come for the camaraderie and the knowledge that is shared.......... So I am apologizing to anyone I may have offended. Happy New Year! Chris
  2. That is one special kind of stupid right there!
  3. Backstrap is marinating as I type this.....should be out of the oven at about 7:30:D If you left right now Randy, you might get here by then:)
  4. Fenced or canned hunts are not my cup of tea, but to each his/her own, if it's legal and ethical to you it is fine...............I just don't feel it is much of a challange to hunt any animal in a small enclosure (less than a few hundred acres) and I feel it is morally wrong to put an animal in a 5 acre pen for the sole purpose of killing it for sport,it smacks of nothing more than killing a domesticated animal. I also do not feel it is very challenging to hunt over bait, but again to each his/her own as long as it is legal I will not pass judgement on someone that enjoys hunting in this manner. I feel like this thread may be partially my fault as I asked a question on another thread about how big the enclosure was they were hunting. It was a legitimate question if you watched the video clip, the animals were clearly up against a fence..........if you are going to show a video of this type of hunt, that's fine, but please state in the beginning that it is what it is, a fenced hunt in X number of acres and they are hunted in this manner for X reason. If this was said I would have no problem with the video and would take it for what it was, but if it is put off as a fair chase free range hunt when it is not, I have a big problem with that. Because it does nothing good for the promotion of hunting if you try to pass off a hunt as free ranging if it is not, it makes us all look bad....................................
  5. Well I wasn't trying to be offensive, the fence in the video clip looks like it is fairly new and I figured the sheep didn't appear to be terribly wild as they could obviously see them stalking them, so I was just curious how big the fenced area was.........not trying to cut on anyone, to each his/her own if it's legal,it's hunting........congrats to her on a fine shot.
  6. How big was the enclosure you were hunting?
  7. Too bad about the deflection.................sounds like a good time regardless:)
  8. Just finished the butchering and wraping chores, man does man back hurt:).............Anyway here is the story: Yesterday afternoon I sat a stand that I has set up in early Dec. on the edge of one of my soybean foodplots, unfortunately the snow and ice are so deep it covered all the bean pods , so the deer were not using the plot. They were however skirting the edge and browsing the thicket were i was set up, being optimistic I set up my tree arm, just in time to see 7 does/fawns high tail it from the woodlot to my left (100 yards away) Well the afternoon was young, maybe I would get a chance later, I was had just finished my set up and started a short video intro when I heard what sounded like a tractor  . It was my Dad plowing the snow from the feild road 200 yards to the south and directly between the bedding area and my tree! As I was finishing my intro and rolling some footage of the John "Deere" I looked to the east and spied two more mature baldies busting from the cover of the pines.........not one to give up easily, I sat the rest of the day.........About 10 mins. to dark I spied a deer moving from the bedding area towards me,then another and another........6 in total. The first 2 nannies got to my 25 yard lane and I let the second feel the sting of the ATOM, she ran toward the truck (bonus!) well because of the trail they took I did not get the camera swung on them in time, but i needed meat for the freezer so I let the Mathews eat regardless. As I was explaining the situation on tape the rest of the herd decided to walk within 15 yards of my tree, a nice fat doe was in my lane, but busted my draw, another yearling that was closer jumped back into a marginal lane and I let fly CRACK! Ohh that didn't sound right. As they made their departure I packed up and climbed down, I did not find my second arrow(closest yearling) nor any blood or hair, but the lack of moonlight made it difficult to see well even with the light. I moved to where i hit the first doe (mature one @ 25 yards) There in the snow stuck one blood soaked arrow! I trailed her for almost 100 yards and then decided it best if i backed out and waited til morning, the hit was a tad high. I went to where the other deer had re-entered the bedding area and searched for blood, found none. Went back in this morning and found the big doe about 60 yards further down the trail, she was still warm  , backing out was obviously the right decision, turns out I hadn't realized she was slightly qtr. to me and I had taken out the back of the facing lung and exited the liver. She had been licking the exit wound so much that a circle of hair was missing from around the hole almost 6 inches in diameter. Well we took some pics. and video , dressed her and pulled her to the truck (one of the easiest drags ever because of the snow). Went back to the other woodlot and grid searched for close to an hour, no blood found, so we backtracked to the shot to look again for sign. No arrow, blood or hair..........must have hit a limb and deflected the arrow into the stratosphere! On the walk back to the truck we spied a small deer browsing it's way from the bedding area to wards us(11:30am) I had the can in my pocket and tipped it short a couple of times.....the deer grunted back and moved to a trail that would bring it 15 yards from us, while standing in the semi-open the button head walked to within 18 yards, stopped looked directly at me for almost a minute, then proceeded on his way.........if only he would do that 3 years from now while I have the bow in hand! So once again we have fresh backstrap and a semi full freezer, will try and take one more good eating doe for the year and hopefully still have time to get the drop on a mature buck that hasn't shed yet.
  9. I only bowhunt for everything these days............have to get used to tag soup every now and then, but it's worth it in the end. Have used NAP Razorbacks the past couple years, might use the Gobbler Guillotines this year.
  10. Well with deer seasons winding down and the winter blues set to kick in I thought I would share a video clip I put together about some basic turkey calling. Now's the time to start practicing so you're proficient come spring, so get out your calls and play along!
  11. I have an 05 Switchback and have replaced the upper suppressor twice, for whatever reason the upper wears way more than the lower one does..................you can get the replacements from your dealer, I read or had someone tell me that you should not shoot w/o the suppressors,so I guess I would ask a pro before removing them and shooting it.
  12. Nice story...............so how long do these stay warm? Might be a good alternative to buying those chemical hand warmers if they last for a few hours without reheating.
  13. You are not entirely correct stating that it is statewide..........in the CWD zone you can hunt anything:D.........and i agree that it is a stupid season, with all the EAB zones we have already a doe only season is simply too much!
  14. Ok don't beat me up, but I'm out of the loop here........what is wrong with buying gas from Citgo?
  15. Congrats on a good shot and nice doe!
  16. Why would this be controversial? I'm sure the landowner/outfitter gets paid well to lease the area to Jordan, it's not public land so it goes to the highest bidder, what's the big deal?
  17. Congrats...........that's a big ol doe!
  18. Well here I thought we would win a new truck (preferably Dodge)
  19. What better way to break a hundred than to suck up:D
  20. Well win or lose, I'm just honored to be in the contest:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
