  1. Awesome keep us posted. Hope it works out we'll to spread the word.
  2. We all get what life deals you. It's the simple fact that you bought about what you did that makes you ok even with that boat in tow.
  3. Beats amusement park prices and cost of AC
  4. Yea I'm a huge advocate for rhinehart. Their targets are second to none. With everything going on I'm not going to either the mass, ny, or pa one.
  5. So later that day I missed another twice at 150 yards. I figured something was up. Last night I went to the range. No wind. Rock solid shooting bench. Discovered the scope isn't holding zero and the turrets aren't accurately dialing. Going to call Nikon but I might be looking at getting a new scope. Always disappointing when stuff like this happens.
  6. What's Your Good Turkey Pattern? I'd like to try heavier payloads of hevi13 #6s first
  7. What's Your Good Turkey Pattern? Yea not a reloader of shotgun shells so not not getting into TSS. Here in NY can't order ammo online so Nitros are difficult. That's due to our current dictator of a Governor here in NY and the recent gun laws that resemble those of Nazi Germany back then. When ammo gets passed the NY boarder and I've got more time I'll post some updates and any improvements I've made.
  8. not sure how crazy I want to make this pump Benelli but stuff I could have done would be to lengthen the forcing cone a little and laser port the barrel itself. the gun was pretty dirty with that pattern too. So more realistic and cheaper improvements... I've cleaned it up. barrel has a mirror finish but choke is a little rougher. I will definitely polish the inside of the choke and that should help some too as the transition will be a little better. that and a clean barrel should separate a lot of the 3-4 pellet clusters so the pattern will be even more filled in. I can't seem to find heavier pay loads right now of Hevi13 #6 (2 or 2-1/4 oz) they might do better without getting mashed or blown out. right now with #8 bird shot it'll rock a woodchuck's world at the back of my back yard, as I found out yesterday evening.
  9. Well I got setup with camera rolling. Woodchuck came out early. Fed to 410 yards. Dope or I was off a handful of inches! So close wait for him to come back out. Wet grass if I had a spotter I could've nailed him with the second shot.
  10. Hunting right now so no time for patterning. Here's the target though. Farther you get from the center the less light comes through the holes and harder to see.
  11. 132 in the head and neck. 77 off to one side and 75 off to the side not in the head or neck. Total of 284 on the target. I'd like to stick with at least hevi13 #6 oppose to 7 or mag blend as #7 are effective out to only 35 yards or so. Trying to make a combo work with a bunch of federal heavy weight #5 that would really hammer a gobbler but the flight control wad has limitations.
  12. Nice congrats again! Came close again this weekend. May have had another hunter get in between us and ran them off.
  13. You always hear people say their guns pattern well but they leave out some details. I haven't exhausted testing patterns by any means but one that I'm ok with is the one I'm using now: 132 pellets in the head and neck of a standard HS Turkey head patterning target at 35 yards. There's 77 pellets on the left half and 75 on the right half of the 11"x11" target. I'm shooting 1 3/4 oz of #6 hevi-13 shot, from a 12ga Benelli Supernova with a Pure Gold ported turkey choke. So that's 37% percent in the head and neck. 78% on an 11" x11" paper target. like i said at 35 yards. what does this compare to what setups others the rest of you have? this okay, good, great, or amazing? lol I'd like to know.
  14. congrats. it's good to keep her happy.
  15. seems like an awesome trip... cool pictures and congrats on the birds!
  16. did some yard work/landscaping for mine today. happy mother's day to all you moms!
  17. aside from shooting at squirrels from your stand, it's probably the best practice you can get. judging yardage is a really big part of it that most don't practice enough. i can tell you a dozen things that will just plain make it difficult to judge distance. dips in the landscape and things like logs between you and the target are just a couple.
  18. I'm still shooting lightspeed 340 shafts that i have left over for my hunting setup. they shoot well but as durable as your heavier shafts. finished weight with 100gr heads and blazers is 402 grains.
  19. well yea there's a bunch. Easton makes a lot of good arrows. you could use the stiffest spine Hexx but then use a brass insert that will give you more weight and a little more FOC for longer down range accuracy. Bowfire, Axis, Injections (if you want to get deep six stuff), or Bloodlines.
  20. while turkey hunting i scouted out a hole and shootable location for a 427+ yard shot. woodchuck stayed out for a good half hour. just have to check now to see if i can dial that much elevation. might have to trim around the holes if i can't get this to happen before hay fields grow up too tall. that one only gets cut once. too wrapped up in turkey hunting to take any.
  21. I don't shoot BH209 because I most of the time can't find it around here. loads by volume are a little less than the usual with say pyrodex pellets. when I got into it at first this is what they told me..... Dan, Thank you for the e-mail. Your Pro Hunter breech plug will work fine. I have attached our breech plug cleaning illustration. This is very important to maintain consistent ignition and accuracy. We have found that the CCI 209M primers give us the best results. Let me know how it works for you. Best regards, Don Luhr Western Powders ....the attachment was a PDF basically saying to use an 1/8" drill bit turned with your fingers to clean the breech plug of residue. the flash hole is best cleaned with a torch tip cleaner. important not to remove metal of the breech plug and just get out the residue. that's all I got without having much experience with it. it is good stuff though.
  22. Lots of rain this morning. Slow in the turkey woods.
  23. Congrats. Heck of a show. Can't believe they didn't spook after the shot and later didn't spot you. Those are some preoccupied birds!
