  1. Well Dog, I'm going to have to go at it with you now and start our own episode. I don't remember Tominator killing a deer with a knife? You must be getting him confused with me? :argue: Gary, great art work as usual! Hutchies I have a similar problem at my wally world. A secretary that I knew very well used to work at my place of employment. She did some really bizzare and illegal stuff and got fired. Now she's a checker at Wally World. It's really awkward knowing what she did and making small talk with her at check out. I try to avoid her line, but her line is usually the shortest. Maybe everyone knows.

  3. Sure will add to the story knowing his age and having his sheds (if you can connect this fall). Good luck!
  4. Congratulations Dog! Pretty soon I'll be.... (don't ya just hate it when someone tries to steal your thunder)!:nono: The thunder is all yours today Dog!
  5. I was one. Last fall I found old VHS tapes of I,II, and III and bought them. I think it was e-bay or something. I got them for a couple dollars each, but the quality isn't that great in VHS format. DVD would be better!
  6. IL. season opens August 1st (I think). Lasts till February! I generally get out a couple times in September when it cools off some. I may have to get out sooner if the weather stays cool! Tominator... ouch! No mercy! ~ or perhaps I missed something.
  7. When gun hunting, I'm ALWAYS hunting as long as it is legal shooting hours. When bow hunting, I strictly a stand hunter. For mornign hunts I'm set up before daylight. For afternoon hunts most of my sets require walking in from open fields. No need in nocking an arrow because deer don't normally run out of the woods into a field with a hunter in it. My focus is getting to my stand quietly and quickly. I also walk in in ways I don't anticipate deer moving through.
  8. I'd love to tell ya, but we'd have to be at deer camp.
  9. I've had several posts explaining my poor results with Muzzy. This gives a good enough explanation to me. Why did they stop sharpening the tips? I know several people that stopped using them because of poor penetration.
  10. I passed (3-times) on a 2.5 year old 9-pointer that was as wide as his ears last season. He was tall, but wasn't thick. I'm hoping he shows up in October for the youth season and my 8 year daughter gets a shot at him with the ML. There was another small 8-pointer I passed on last season as well. Both might be nice this season. I also saw a heck of a buck 2 seasons ago that as far as I know is still around. However, i didn't see him last season. When I saw him 2 seasons ago he was a little too far (40 yards) and it was a little too dark for an ethical shot.
  11. I have a bear Whitetail II that I don't shoot anymore. I believe I bought it when I was 16 so that would make it about 22 years old. I've never replaced the string. I have a 2003 Bear TRX that I'm still using. Bought a new string for it this year.
  12. Tragic! So sorry to hear about this sensless act. Prayers sent.
  13. Remember well. Sounds like something I could easily get into. Just haven't tried it yet. Sounds like a great move for the hunter that is looking to mix it up some. My biggest deterent is the cost for another gun and clothing and that the ML season in IL is only 2 weekends. There is an extended late antlerless only season starting this year that would work well.
  14. I don't use a back pack much, I prefer the waist pack since my climber is usually on my back. I only take a pack when I'm trying to film my hunts. My typical pack items for a 4-6 hour hunt: 1. Safety rope that attaches to the tree and then my safety harness (I wear the harness to my spot). 2. Hang it all belt 3. Range finder 4. Binoculars (depending on the stand I use) 5. Head band flashlight 6. Deer scent (type depends on time of year, usually doe estrus waffers) 7. Wind indicator 8. Knife 9. Head net 10. 30 ft. rope to haul up my bow 11. Gerber 6 inch saw for trimming branches Cell phone goes in my pocket, so if I fall it does too.
  15. I guess it was back in the early 90's when I missed a huge buck at 15-20 yards with a shotgun. I had fallen asleep and the buck was running down the hill I was asleep on. The buck nearly ran me over. I woke up, saw the buck aimed at the lungs and shot. The buck just kept running. As I watched him run out of sight I rememberd that the 20 guage I had shot high (very high, almost a foot) and that I had forgot to compensate. Bought a new shotgun after that incident. That's the only big buck I've ever missed so far.
  16. :happybday: Better late than never!
  17. Winchester. I've only used about 40 of them and so far and one misfire (which is too many for me). I'll be switching to CCI next time.
  18. It was getting pretty lonely till you came along.
  19. I suppose there are a couple reasons. 1. The less things I'm moving around getting ready for my shot the better. The chances of an arrow falling out of the quiver as you rasie your bow are low, but zero when it isn't attached. In addition with the quiver off there is less chance of me snagging a branch with it as I prepare for the shot. 2. Less weight.
  20. Typical over 200 inches ~ net (Hey what can I say, I like to fish too) . No need for perfection.
  21. Get an arm guard anyway. I've been shooting over 20 years and sometimes I'll get lazy and that string will still pop my forearm.
  22. First I've heard of weight forward arrows.
  23. I started taking it off a couple years ago. I usually use the excess line from my safety harness attachment rope and tie my quiver to it. From experience, anything not tied to the tree has a good chance of ending up on the forest floor 30 feet below me. A real pain when you have a climber.
  24. They are terrible and you should get rid of it! I'll be gracious enough to take it off your hands for the price you gave for it. Seriously, that's a great price! I wonder if it is an older model? Does it have the rapid climb stirups? I'm hoping to save enough to buy the Viper Ultra from Cabela's for this fall. It runs 249.00.
  25. I've got scent blocker and scent lock clothing. I got them on sale so I didn't pay a small fortune for them. My future hunting clothing purchases will not be the overpriced scent elimination clothing. My focus now is more on playing the wind, using scent free soap and shampoo when I shower and keeping myself dry from sweat. Since you're just starting out, I'd recommend going with the HS scent products and just buy the cheaper clothing and spray down. One thing I wish I had learned earlier is to take a change of undergarments with me when I have a long hike to my stand and I'll be sweating a lot. I then store the sweaty undershirt/socks in a ziplock bad. Nothing alarms deer more than the scent of human bacteria and you get that with sweat.
