  1. How I gained permission is a long story, but the short answer is that a friend is the owner. Can't afford leasing currently but I might have to look into leasing because gaining permission is nearly impossible these days.
  2. Just found out that my primary hunting location that I've had permission to hunt for years will be leased by an outfitter starting next year. I can't complain because It's been a great ride and I knew this day would come sooner or later. I'll sure savour this final season! Some deer I've been blessed with from the farm...
  3. Negative: 1. Don't feel safe walking in in the dark. 2. One has to walk a long way to get away from hunters 3. Where I live the only large public hunting land is 3 hours away. The closer public areas are small and one has to apply each year to hunt them for one week and then a doe has to be harvested before a buck. Positive: 1. What the others have said.
  4. Looks like the creek is only about 6 feet across? I'd buy a treated 4x6x8 or if needed a 4x6x12 and leave it there. After crossing just move it up on the bank so it doesn't wash away in a heavy rain. I use these to drive my riding lawn mower into the bed of my truck. Cost should be around 20 bucks.
  5. I think someone posted that a week or two ago. I never get tired of watching that. Incredible!

    What is....

2-3 coyotes can sound like a lot more! Coyotes can run in larger packs, but often they are in pairs. The coyote is fast, but not the fastest! They don't call the pronghorn a speed goat for nothing!
  7. Illinois may if any are left after the draw. Check with vendors (most Wal-Marts) after October 20th. First come first serve basis.
  8. I don't see my family as being my possessions. More like God's and I've got a life long lease. 1. Family pictures 2. My taxidermy items 3. My guns/bows (especially the ones handed down) 4. A Bible from my grandpa who was a minister.

    Funny, Random Quotes

My dad's pretty redneck so he's had some good ones. We call em Royisms. A few I'm thinking of... "Not just no, but HE** NO!" After returning to camp my dad is asked, Well did you get a deer? "Well, I saw five." (Funny because the only thing that ever changes in his reply is the number) My dad's fingers have never graced a computer keyboard. So he calls a few days ago and asks: "Can you do some kind of computer deal and make my NRA membership go back on." Regardless of who's at fault... "Yea, yea, see what ya did. Yea yea, see."

Freakiest thing... Would have to be my knife fight with a deer. I posted it to my Blog. For those of you have not read it enjoy.:hammer1: http://www.realtree.com/forums/blog.php?do=list
  11. Every year I shoot till I have close groups in the bullseye. I start at 10 and go up by 5 yards till I hit 30-35 yards. This year I'm up to 30, but not 35 yet. I try to shoot fewer arrows and have more outings. I'll rarely shoot more than 30 arrows in an outing. I generally shoot 3 or 4 at a time.

    Credit Card Tech

Identity theft is a real concern these days. They will try to get you to buy protection. Your choice, I never have and never will. Just be careful where the number gets entered (web sites). I use the cabela's card. You may also want to lower your limit on purpose. Set it at a thousand or two at first. That way you can only get into so much trouble.:clown: Another thing, in case you do get into trouble and have a large balance with a 28% + interest rate. Find another card that is offering a promotion of 0% financing for 12 months. There will be a transfer fee (usually 3%) but that is nothing like paying 28%! I get (in the mail) the 0% financing promotions for a year about every 2 weeks. Finally, you ever get married make sure your wife to be has good credit card habits. If you have a joint card a spouses bad habits can impact your credit history.
  13. Good to see the pic posting starting! Black bow, and a well placed shot. Bet he was in a blind?
  14. I'd shoot a few new bows and buy the one I liked the most. Alpha-max, Some bows from Bow-Tech, Matthews, and the new Bear Truth 2.
  15. While hunting a private farm I was looking for a tree to hang a stand no where near any roads. I found a medium sized tree on the high side of a creek bed that would work. While checking out the spot I realized there was an old 1930's car nearly burried at the base of the tree. The tree roots were all interwoven and upon closer inspection I could see the headlights close to the water level of the creek peeking through the embankment.

    Need to Vent

That stinks Rem! I wonder if RT could put a sticky or something about Pro shops around the country that the RT members have had good experiences with. (Probably best not to list the bad)?Perhaps it could be arranged by state or something? I know I love my shop in Maryville IL. TimBuckTu Outdoors!
  17. A picture is worth a lot of words. My pack for climbing below. My pull up rope is 30 ft and I connect to my bow and let the slack lie at the base of the tree. The other part of the rope connects to my pack. Sometimes I go above 30 feet and the bow just goes up as I pass 30 feet. The rope is in the picture. Also note the headlamp flashlight. Go somewhere and practice on real trees. Get a couple feet off the ground and try the safety harness out. Make sure you are using it correctly. I wear my harness once I leave the truck and attach to the rope that goes around the tree once I start climbing. I hate to say this, but sometimes I get lazy and just hook up once I'm at the top. Since you're just starting out, I'd advise you to do it right starting out and you will not develop bad and unsafe habbits. Regarding the foot rest...http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88915
  18. At first I thought 140, then thought not quite. Maybe if he grows some more he'll get there.
  19. Don't mean to hijack here but... I'm trying to calculate the KE for my set up. What is: Weight on String Adjustment? Does this include the string weight or just the loop / silencers? I'd think my two silencers wouldn't weight more than 10 grains each? Looks like my KE is going to be in the mid 60's.
  20. I'm pretty new to the sport. Last December a bought a Remington Genesis and Leuopold Ultimate Slam to go with it. Living in IL. we can not use a rifle for deer. As I introduce mykids to hunting I needed something with less recoil than a shotgun slug. My daughter shoots 70 grains of powder, shockwave 250 grain sabots, and Winchester 209 primer. She gets it in the vitals at 50 yards.
  21. When I made the switch to carbon a few years ago I went with GT. I've had no need to try anything else.
  22. The "kick" can be controlled for any ML. Just powder down. I read that buffalo used to be shot with just 70 grains of powder by the US Cavalry. That's what I charge my Remington Genesis with for my 8 year old daughter. Hopefully she'll connect on her first deer this October. My Remington Genesis cost me 199.99 last Christmas at Cabela's. It's SS with a RT camo stock.
  23. A lot of people don't think of black bears as being that dangerous. That misconception is a costly one.
  24. I live at 214 typical booner lane. not really.:shifty: But I hope to move to that location this season.
