  1. It begins! Nice way to start the success pics out!
  2. I've got the Cabela's straps and the plastic connector brook on a cold december hunt. S ring connectors fixed that. My binos are heavy and the would likely get in the way while bow hunting. I only use them fro gun hunting.

    Visitation day!

Great looking kid ya got there Wooly! Been through the custody ordeal so I know how important these special days can be. Sometimes quality is as important as quantity.
  4. The habitat is a nice touch. Looks like quality work.
  5. I saw about a few does with a couple fawns each today. It looked like about 1/2 of the fawns had spots and 1/2 did not. What are you all seeing? I don't think I'd shoot a deer with spots so I'm hoping they all change soon!
  6. Sorry to hear that! I'll remember her in my prayers
  7. Fly checking in! Our seson doesn't start until October 1st so I didn't think the contest threads would be up this early. I kinda forget that some states may already be open.:clown: Our season goes until January 17th. As far as name why don't we all come up with a few and then vote on what we like the best? A few I'll throw in the pot... 1. The Lucky Buckeroos 2. 13 inch DROP TIME! 3. The Good Luck Buck Charmers since the number 13 is associated with horror movies (Friday the 13th)... 4. The Slashers 5. Blood Trailers
  8. 15 deer is an amazing number and that buck is a giant! Last year was good for me, but I'm hoping for a better archery season!
  9. The mass looks respectable to me. His main beams are nice and long. I'll say he might gross as high as 160, but his net will be a lot lower (around 145).
  10. Pretty sure the ears are just positioned to pick up sound. Deer move their ears in funky positions. Great shots!
  11. Kind of I guess... I have a Christmas music CD that I keep in my truck all year long. The rule is that I can't play it until I harvest my first deer. Pretty neat when the kids get in the truck for the first time and Christmas music is playing. They start smiling and say something like "Buck or doe?".
  12. Yea Casey I do care about the score of a deer. I'm not interested in high fence hunting and I don't pay a hefty fee to get one, but if I had the choice to shoot a deer that scored 170 inches at 4 years old and a 130 inch deer at 5 years old I'd take the 170 every time. I've got 2 in P&Y and 1 in B&C. For me scoring just adds another level to a sport I'm so passionate about.
  13. Not likely with this particular farm. It is mostly corn and beans. The farmer knows the deer movements, he told me when I first started hunting. A good idea though if the farm was set up differently and if the hot spots were not known.
  14. I know a lot of Elk and deer hunters are glad to see this!
  15. I love extreme height bow hunting. Last year a plane knocked my hat off.:clown: I try to go 30 feet, but it's tough to get that high all the time. Sometimes I settle for 25 feet.
  16. Wet: Copper John Dry: Elk Hair Caddis
  17. Sure gets the blood pumping eh! Let that buck dwell in your memory for a while. Likely you'll get another chance and the flavor will be just a little sweeter!
  18. I don't know much about them, I'm new to muzzeloading. However, I think I'd have to go with Davy Crocketts "Betsy". His first, or original, gun is in Jefferson County and has been since 1806. His rifle "Betsy", presented by the Whigs of Philadelphia in 1834, is at Nashville, Tennessee. Why... A priceless piece of American history!
  19. A buddy of mine had the same thing happen to him with a chicken bone. Not funny at the time, but just imagine the jokes that followed that ordeal. Glad to hear you are doing better.

    I'm Baaack!

Welcome back! You gonna blog the story or post it here? Now that you're home rest up, but not too long. Those whitetails are only 4 weeks away!
  21. I'm happy for you Chris. Looks like things are going great! If you don't find water with the next poke give Moses a call. I hear he's a miracle worker when it comes to water.
  22. Do you just do your own stuff? Looks great to me!
  23. This will be my daughters first year deer hunting. If she gets a buck with a decent rack (6 pointer or better) I'll have it mounted for her ($350.00) is what my local guy charges. He's doing a crappie she caught this past spring that will run about $120.00. I've got a turkey being done that will run me about $500.00 If I get a nice buck this year (130 inches or better) I'll have it mounted. Spring 2010 I'll be trying my luck in Idaho again for my first bear. If I get one I'll have a rug made for about $700.00. So I guess the economy hasn't kept me away from the taxi. I have cut out other things though.
  24. Just thought I'd let you know that I finished sighting in my 20 guage with Winchester Super X rifled slugs. I'm very happy with them. I was placing the shots within a softball at 25, 50, and 70 yards. At 9 dollars for a box of 15 I'm sold! No longer will I be paying 15.00+ for a box of 5 remington copper solid sabot 12 guage shells.
